Where do you think we'll be?

I hope to god, somewhere near normal.

Feels incredibly bleak.

OP posts:

@HomeSliceKnowsBest

America will be at war with China.
Or India at war with China. Oh go on, why not both? Allies v Axis v2.

But yeah, it's certainly possible to get much, much worse from here. I see China moved 60,000 troops to the disputed border with India in the past week. Both are nuclear powers, so that's greeeeat.

BrazenlyDefying · 13/10/2020 17:56

Just slit your wrists now folks, there's no hope. Hmm

It's going to be shit for a LOOOOONG time and anyone who has anything positive to say is a naive Pollyanna who isn't in the real world of lockdowns, shit existence, grim, grinding misery.

Fucking hell, and they wonder why mental health issues are rocketing too?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/10/2020 18:02

Im not a dementor and not predicting lockdowns and misery forever. Its not going to happen overnight. This will not be over in another 6 months. This will not be over in a year

Well it certainly sounded as if you were predicting lockdowns forever, or at least for many years, in your earlier posts.

This is not going to magically disappear in 6 months. Its always going to be here. Rolling lovkdowns are our future

onedayinthefuture · 13/10/2020 18:04

I can guarantee everyone worried about the future whatever it looks like, will be a darn sight happier if they made a promise not to look at Mumsnet posts anymore.

yorkshirecountrylass · 13/10/2020 18:07

As my Mum would say, nothing lasts forever. The last 4/5 years has damaged our country beyond recognition; Covid has simply put the tin hat on an otherwise calamitous period. But it will get better. A vaccine will emerge, and most viruses over time tend to mutate to less severe strains just through the wonder that is Mother Nature and Father Time. No things won't be normal this time next year, they may not even be "normal" the year after next, but they will start to move back that way. In the meantime we have to knuckle down, help each other where we can, consider what we can and can't do without and know that we're stronger than that which challenges us.

Leaannb · 13/10/2020 18:08

@janetmendoza

Sorry you are getting such a hard time Leanne and no things will not be back to normal this time next year. This winter will be terrible for all the reasons people have given - there will be some relief healthwise over the summer, but of course by the loads of us will have lost our jobs. The next winter will be more of the same.
Not an issue. Its just a case of people asking a question and then when they don't get the answers they like they tend to go on the defensive. They just want smoke blown up their ass

The virus will never go away. Its here to stay and with that so will rolling locking downs. At least until evolution comes in. Even then it still won't be the way it was. I doubt mask wearing goes anywhere. That will continue. I still stand by words that anyone who thinks we will be back to normal asin before Covid anytime soon is deluded
IrmaFayLear · 13/10/2020 18:12

China will have stealthily become much more powerful, whilst much of the world is in disarray.

They will purchase huge numbers of struggling companies - big name companies - like the US did in Europe after ww2.

CoronaIsWatching · 13/10/2020 18:13

If no vaccine then some sort of instant testing costing a couple of quid each go, available to everyone at anytime on the spot via booths in phramacies. The results will sync to an app on your phone, which you show when entering concerts, theatres, pubs and clubs..any indoor event basically for same day entry. The pass lasts 24 hours before you have to get another test before doing anything.

edwardson · 13/10/2020 18:14

@Leaannb did you get your T cells tested? I'd be tempted to do that. I don't have any antibodies so assume I must have just had a cold or something when I was ill in March, but would love to check the T cells. My brother had a confirmed (hospitalised) case. Then I got sick, but no testing except for sever cases at that stage. Not sure they'd offer me T cell tests (if that's what it is?) just to quell some curiosity though!

Dustballs · 13/10/2020 18:14

Dystopia. No longer imagined.

Thisyearsucks · 13/10/2020 18:16

Last week at the asthma clinic the nurse wrote 'can't measure peak flow due to covid'. She said she'd see me this time next year for a review.
I told her that I really hoped she wouldn't be writing the same thing this time next year.
In my heart, I felt she would (if I survive!) But I really hope that with more knowledge and scientific study, we can at least have more control and definite plans in place...

Leaannb · 13/10/2020 18:16
@Leaannb how have you managed to get your immunity so thoroughly checked?

At some point the cure will become worse than the disease - you can see that now with how we are dealing with the second wave is different to the first.

Plus these things do naturally even out (not disappear but just bob along)
Because I have had several antibody tests which shows no immunity to Covid despite having Covid

VinylDetective · 13/10/2020 18:18

Boris will have been told to go by men in grey suits but cummings will still be there, just a bit more hidden

The first part of this I’d put money on. The PCP detests Cummings though, he’s there because of Johnson and will be turfed out at the same time.

Yes I have after my last exposure (Thanks Trump) and why my family and I are under another 14 day quarantine.

The news on antibody persistence isn't great, but we have had some good news over the last few months. We have some moderately effective therapeutics and more in the pipeline. I think there are six vaccine candidates in phase 3 trials and many others in earlier stages. There's also a lot more understanding of how to manage cases and what symptoms to look out for. You're much better off catching the disease now than you would have been a few months ago.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 13/10/2020 18:22

The first reply on this thread is just pure Mumsnet! Grin

I had quite a normal summer to be honest, even went abroad (plus quarantine on return) and everything Smile

Aloethere · 13/10/2020 18:25
@Leaannb wow so pessimistic! You may choose to live like this still but me and plenty of others will not be living like this in a years time. If things aren’t better by spring, the 6 months we were told, I’m just going back to normal anyway. I’m sure if enough of us feel that way we will go back to normal as if the majority aren’t complying then what’s the point?
I’m just going back to normal anyway.

Such shite, you are going to personally bring back concerts and music festivals are you? How about opening the borders of some countries, you going to do that too? You are just going to start standing up the hole of the person in front of you in a supermarket? How about queuing outside shops? You plan to just ignore and stroll on in? Any pubs or cinemas or whatever closures might be in place you will just go for film followed by a trip to the pub?

nosswith · 13/10/2020 18:27

If there is a vaccine, then we will be nearer to life before Covid 19. If not, then a lot more people will be out of work.

Roselilly36 · 13/10/2020 18:27

Normal summer? Wear a mask through airport & in resort, far from a normal summer. I am beyond guessing what will happen next.

Zilla1 · 13/10/2020 18:32

OK, on the balance on probability, vaccines in the UK rolled out to at risk groups within a calendar year of today which takes the edge off the pandemic. Live events somewhat back to normal by the Summer. New PM after Brexit New Year with all that entailed. Gove front runner for PM based on links to Murdoch and Daily Mail. Is there anything else of interest OP?

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/10/2020 18:33

This time next year we’ll be millionaires Rodney....

ravensoaponarope · 13/10/2020 18:33

@TibetanTerrier All people have to do is follow a few simple rules to contain the virus and they aren't even prepared to do that because they find it inconvenient and they don't like having to give some things up.

Not all the things people have had to give up are small.
Many have lost jobs and are at risk of losing their homes.
Many people haven't seen their families since March.
The mental health groups I and others used to attend, stopped running here in March.
People with mental health support workers are being telephoned instead of having visits at home.
My psychotherapy is now over Skype instead of in person.
My friend who had breast cancer is still waiting for her yearly scan that was due in March.
Swimming pools here never reopened.
I feel suicidal regularly and I am not the only one.
And I'm not even complaining about mask wearing and all the rules. But, if you have been lucky enough not to lose much with all the restrictions, please don't assume that it's the same for everybody.

I don't like the city. Can I be from upstate like Lockport or Erie? I have family there and the homes along the canals are gorgeous. I would settle for Niagara Falls but I don't want to live in Buffalo. Also, can I come back south in the winter time? Lake effect snow is no joke
