Where do you think we'll be?

I hope to god, somewhere near normal.

Feels incredibly bleak.

OP posts:

Boris will have resigned or been forced out
Lots of the Boris cronies gone too
Election due
Vaccine found and more vulerable vaccinated or in the process of being vaccinated.
High death toll
Trump still in office
Deaths from everything other than covid increased over a 12 month period
Huge unemployment, corresponding rises in homelessness and crime
As a teacher I predict more trouble over exams
death toll amongst school staff increased as a result of covid
Teacher shortages will increase, despite the numbers of unemployed
A significant number of private schools will go to the wall

mollypuss1 · 13/10/2020 16:07

Well this is cheery little read.....

BetterEatCheese · 13/10/2020 16:08

I think we will have a vaccine of sorts for some, or at least knowledge about whether antibodies protect from further infection, with more antibody tests allowing some to increase activities. Also I think we will have huge leaps in knowledge concerning the treatment of the disease and a lower mortality rate, helping things again get back to some kind of normal.

"To be honest this is go0ing to be as normal as it gets for a while"

Genuinely, what are you basing that on?
Lack of antibodies 3 months after recovery from Covid is going to make finding a working vaccine much more difficult. More and more research stating that its spread by Aerosol and not jist droplets. Rolling lockdowns, self quarantine and mask useage is going to be our present and our future for a few years.

thesnob20 · 13/10/2020 16:09

@mollypuss1 I was not expecting so much negativity. I thought people still had some hope!

OP posts:
Ifailed · 13/10/2020 16:09

I expect by next October people will be still adjusting to Brexit and given the inevitable rise in taxes the poorer will be feeding on cheap food imports from the USA. As a knock-on, most small farms will be out of business and the land will be bought up by hobby farmers, maybe from China.
We will have become blasé about covid-19 and accept it as just another cause of death for the frail, our main concern will be the rise in cancer and cardiovascular disease due to the diversion of attention away from diagnosis and early treatment.
After the death of Elizabeth 2nd and the resignation of Boris, Cummings will be in 'temporary' control as Lord Protector. All dancers, actors and general entertainers will be conscripted into a new civil defence corps to assist the police in maintaining Law and Order. Barnard Castle will be a tax-haven for weirdos and misfits.

DynamoKev · 13/10/2020 16:10

@CakeRequired

Oh and I don't think Boris will be prime minister still

No he is likely to run away once brexit is all wrapped up. Who will willingly take over after him though?

I'll have a go at it if you like.
Coldwinterahead1 · 13/10/2020 16:10

I think we will still be in the midst of COVID but better than now

The research on antibodies does not look good. I have no antibodies from the virus 5 months out from recovery. Thats going to make finding a vaccine harder. Not impossible but harder

Too realistic.

I forgot in my other post there is more and more research stating its transmitted by aerosol also. I don't think its negativity. Its acceptance. Things have to be bad before they get better. It took over 2 years for the world to recover from the Spanish flu epidemic

timeforanewstart · 13/10/2020 16:14

Nobody knows , not politicians not scientists and certainly not joe public. Everything is educated guesses and its a virus we can't be sure how it will continue to affect us going forward
Of course taxes will go up and monetary wise it will be a long recovery
You can't have a world lockdown forever though

CakeRequired · 13/10/2020 16:16

@DynamoKev

Sure go for it. Say bye to your sanity. Grin

Creatingausername · 13/10/2020 16:18

I'm choosing to believe things will be much more normal because otherwise I will go mad. I'm hoping they are right about being close to a vaccine for at least some people. I'm sick of all this and don't want to wear masks forever. I miss concerts and gatherings and if they have a vaccine for the most vulnerable I dont see why they wouldn't be able to start things like that back up.

Casmama · 13/10/2020 16:20

I'm not sure comparing the current situation to Spanish flu is massively helpful - we have come a long way in terms of medicine and science which gives as many more options.
I hope that we will have a few viable vaccines and that the most at risk people will have been vaccinated with better testing (ie results in 15 minutes) and tracing so that even if it is still about the risks are lower and life is a lot more normal.
As for the economy etc that will be a shit show and Boris will have skulked away

Racoonworld · 13/10/2020 16:21

@lljkk

If things aren’t better xxxxx, I’m just going back to normal anyway.

I don't believe statements like that. Not from 99% of people who make them, anyway.

Really? Me and my friends/family are probably around 60% back to normal now. In 6 months time We are likely to be about 90%. I suspect the same for a lot of people.

Where do you think we'll be?

With Bastian and the Child Empress, looking at the last grain of sand, all that remains of her once vast empire?

Shall we give her a new name already?

goldrabbit22 · 13/10/2020 16:32

You might be paying heavy fines for just going back to normal.anyway.

Whatever the cost it won't be as awful as the cost incurred if we carry on this trajectory.

Flibbitygibbit · 13/10/2020 16:32

We will be in this place still. Coved still around, spikes everywhere. Local lockdowns going on. I'm in Leicester and never have been out of it yet .

unmarkedbythat · 13/10/2020 16:40

Nothing much changed wrt covid. Mass unemployment. Austerity 2. Going into the second covid winter after a summer of riots. The realities of Brexit becoming much clearer and still its supporters insisting it was worth it. Infighting in every political party. Food costing more and generally being of a lower standard.

The above being what I think will happen, I hope I am wrong, wrong wrong. I hope some amazing gold standard vaccine has been rolled out to all, the economy has bounced back, the government does not embark on a fresh round of austerity, there is not a summer of rioting, Brexit is not the appalling breath taking disaster it's shaping up to be, politicians are doing a good job, food poverty isn't rising and food standards aren't falling. I just don't think that will be the case.

Devlesko · 13/10/2020 16:42

In the middle of a deep depression.
High unemployment and many homeless and repossessions.
Civil unrest from some, but most, surprisingly falling in line, and not questioning the new normal.
There's certainly no going back, the future seems soulless tbh.

ACautionaryTale · 13/10/2020 16:43

@Leaannb

all antibodies disappear, its what they do.

What is important is that you have T cells which contain a memory of the antibodies.

Next time you see the infection, the T cells kick in and remember how to make the antibodies and they get to work.

you MAY get it twice - it depends on how long the T cells take to kick in but in virtually all cases, it should be a much milder illness.

the elderly who do not have as good T cell production may need annual vaccines

I sometimes think people need to learn science before they comment

SomewhereEast · 13/10/2020 16:44

This isn't sustainable longterm, financially (even developed countries can't afford this indefinitely) or in terms of people's ability to sustain all this or willingness to comply. Either there'll be an at least semi-effective vaccine or we'll quietly decide that pursuing herd immunity isn't such a bad idea after all.

TibetanTerrier · 13/10/2020 16:46
@Leaannb wow so pessimistic! You may choose to live like this still but me and plenty of others will not be living like this in a years time. If things aren’t better by spring, the 6 months we were told, I’m just going back to normal anyway. I’m sure if enough of us feel that way we will go back to normal as if the majority aren’t complying then what’s the point?
And the people you kill by doing this just don't matter?
