Inspired slightly by the saveloy thread and those no longer able to attain one.

I went to Key West 6 years ago and I’m still dreaming about the fish tacos. I’ve tried making myself and I can’t get it right. Not a single place in my Midlands city sells fish tacos. I so want them to become popular - can you Deliveroo them in London?

Also Vietnamese. Went to a fab restaurant in China Town and again have had various attempts but not been very successful.

What are you craving that’s hard to get hold of?
@ivftake1 I love it there! They’re our go to post-shopping or post-afternoon drinking snack
Is it still open? Bloody love it.

I have lovely memories of first lunches with my now husband when we were first dating.

Tropical fruit.

I lived in SE Asia for a while and the fruit was amazing.
I would buy huge bags of mangosteens for a few pence, rambutan, papaya, mango, guava were always so sweet and at the peak of ripeness.
I know you can buy some tropical fruits here in he UK, but they are expensive and don't travel well, so usually not worth buying.
I wish we could have the abundance of fruit.

@speakout

The rambutan from Costco is great! Tastes like Sri Lankan ones :D

South Wales Rissoles!!!! Only get them in fish and chip shops, live in Yorkshire now and miss them SOOO much, cannot find a proper recipe anywhere for them.

LakieLady · 12/10/2020 18:04

Decent burgers. In Brighton they have a couple of take aways called Grubs that do lovely burgers, the only burgers where we live are from kebab shops.

We haven't got a greasy spoon any more either, the last one closed a couple of years ago. They did a fabulous cooked breakfast. (I can't blame them though, they owned the building and when restored to 2 terraced houses, they sold for £400k apiece).

Lozza70 · 12/10/2020 18:06

M&S have started selling scraps🙄

WanderingMilly · 12/10/2020 18:06

Used to live in Scandinavia. I miss Rislunj (type of cold rice) and ribberull (rolled then sliced cold meat). Not available in the UK.

No one should be deprived of veggie square sausage! Found these if that's any use to you!

We had a small chain of pizzerias in our area, run by an Italian family. The pizzas were to die for. Melt in the mouth thin base and just the right balance of everything. But the restaurants closed down a few years ago and I feel guilty that I didn't play my part in keeping them going by eating there every single nightGrin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/10/2020 18:09

Chicken with cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce. I have checked as many Chinese takeaways as I can, within a radius of about 15 miles, and haven’t found one serving it.

Some do chicken in cashew nuts, but it is in gravy, and is just nasty.

AdaColeman · 12/10/2020 18:10

I’d love to be able to buy fresh seafood, especially lobster, mussels and crab, but even though we are not too far from the sea, you can’t get any of those from the shops around here.

A favourite Chinese restaurant (sadly, long since closed) used to do wonderful paper prawns, large prawns wrapped in rice paper and deep fried, delicate crispy mouthfuls of heaven!

I really miss Advocaat the way it’s made in Belgium 🇧🇪, very thick, creamy and rich, and sold in wide necked jars so it can be scooped into little glasses and eaten with a tiny spoon, so very restorative after a difficult morning or a long day! 🇧🇪 🇧🇪 🇧🇪

Lndnmummy · 12/10/2020 18:12

Crayfish and Swedish west coast crab

Blueshmoo · 12/10/2020 18:15

A wimpy quarter pounder. I am so sorry for all you people whe can't get deep fried pizza Grin

DorisDaisyMay · 12/10/2020 18:18

Burger sauce from France. I don’t know what it’s called but when I was in france I ate it on everything. I tried to get it here but it was £16 on eBay- so it’s consigned to a wishful memory!!

@willagedisgracefully

Rissoles from the chippy. A South Wales delicacy
I came on here to say just that!!! Corned beef, mashed potatoes, grated onion and loads of white pepper, in breadcrumbs all deep fried and crispy.

When I went to uni in England and asked for a rissole in the chippy they had no idea what I as asking for

wowfudge · 12/10/2020 18:18

Valencian paella and I was only thinking the other day that I fancied laverbread with a cooked breakfast. Also Staffordshire oatcakes.

SilenceOfTheEmu · 12/10/2020 18:21

I live down south but i studied in Glasgow and I miss pizza crunch, munchie boxes, hoggies, macaroni pie and square sausage in a tattie scone.

Howlooseisyourgoose · 12/10/2020 18:23

The feast in Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom.

SideEyeing · 12/10/2020 18:26

I moved from London to a tiny village in the NE a few years ago. Wouldn't go back if you paid me but man I miss the Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese food on Just Eat. Here we have 2 kebab shops that deliver and they're both grim as hell. Still, makes it more of a treat when we head to Durham or Newcastle!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 12/10/2020 18:30

Anything that is actually accessible on Just Eat. I live in the bloody Lakes so there's nothing!
I miss chippy as it is in Merseyside; I love that fusion of Chinese and Anglo chippy style.
Lately I miss a dish I had in Cyprus, which had feta and big prawns. Never been able to recreate it the same as when it was washed down with a big draught of Keo on a hot evening.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/10/2020 18:31

Oh also fritto misto or fritto verdure, in a cone with polenta. Sold to me in the street through a window anywhere in the north of italy

this is about 8 things now.

SimonJT · 12/10/2020 18:31

Ripe Pakistani mango, only available in the uk for about four weeks of the year. Sell out incredibly quickly.

MrsMonkeyBear · 12/10/2020 18:33

The Czech pastries i had in Prague. I dont know what they were but they were sold by loads of street vendors. Cooked on a long metal roll and then caked in icing sugar.

It was one of the few things I could eat out there, as I felt constantly hungover for the 3 days (it wasn't a hangover, she's now almost 6.)

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 12/10/2020 18:34

Mantı made with squash and cumin, served with a chilli sauce.
