Trump - I seriously have no words

Trump, talking about COVID-19 on the news just now - “Don’t be afraid of it, don’t let it dominate you“
How fucking offensive to the millions of people who are suffering, who have died, their families, people who have lost their jobs, their livelihoods, their homes.

I don’t know why I am surprised, the man is an utter prick, but for some reason this latest sound bite has just enraged me. AIBU?

That said the timeline does not add up, it’s known that you get illest 5-10 days in, I reckon he had it far earlier than he has admitted and carried on with engagements anyway. Urgh.

This. Either he's had it a while and has been infecting everyone and not getting tested (or the tests haven't been positive) or he's back far too soon to say he's OK. Since the doctor can't seem to get his story straight I suppose we won't know unless he takes a turn for the worse and then we'll know he was back too soon.

Either way, he's been extremely irresponsible with other people's health.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/10/2020 16:01

A million dead and this Wotsit walks away from it

lazylump72 · 06/10/2020 16:05

The man is insane as are those around him for pandering to him.I feel for the American people.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/10/2020 16:09

The thing about Donald Trump is no matter what he says people are going to have a pop about. If he’d have said “Be terrified because we’ll all be dead in 6 months.
He’d have been condemned and dragged over the coals backwards forwards and upside down for scare mongering.
I must say though He does seems to have made a very quick recovery

InTheVelvetDarkness · 06/10/2020 16:11

His breathing looks strange and Laboured in that clip.

AlternativePerspective · 06/10/2020 16:13

I seem to remember Boris Johnson also downplayed how serious his covid was. I think that downplaying it when you’re the leader of a country is the normal thing to do, because the prime minister/president dying would have serious consequences, and even talk of them potentially dying would have an impact on e.g. the markets etc.

But as much as I don’t like Boris, at least he wasn’t giving thumbs-ups and doing drive-by’s waving at the “fans”. He downplayed, but he still did it from within the confines of Downing Street....

Trump even turned his going into hospital into a photo opportunity.

He thinks he’s some kind of celebrity, and his “fans” are more like groupies than actual supporters capable of logical thinking. Only groupies and sad bastards go and camp outside a hospital where there celebrity is.

OhToBeASeahorse · 06/10/2020 16:16

The problem is... he IS a celebrity. Who somehow ended up in politics.

He hasn't as he hasn't recovered.
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/10/2020 16:41

No but he’s out and about and doing speeches ect. That’s pretty good going to say he was air lifted to Hospital just a few days ago

imissthesouth · 06/10/2020 16:49

I don't think people should live in fear of it tbh. I think people just like to get enraged by everything Trump says. I'm not his biggest supporter but I just avoid him. The majority of people can treat the virus and home and won't need hospital treatment. Trump was only taken in because he's a wealthy president (and for publicity cough)

lljkk · 06/10/2020 16:52

Euphoria is a known side effect of the steroids.
I don't think we're at the end of this chapter of the Trump soap opera.

KaptainKaveman · 06/10/2020 16:53

@DontBeShelfish

I suspect if he takes a turn for the worse his acolytes will simply assume he's been poisoned by the Chinese, or that the Clintons have had him murdered.

It always freaks me out that the name of the organisation doing drug trials is Gilead Science. America is in full-on Atwood territory now. I seriously think there'll be a civil war.

Agreed. The conspiracy nutters and Q-Anons will certainly push one of those theories , or something similar.

There are now enough far right nutters and neo nazis in the US to enable a civil war. And they all have guns. Lots and lots of guns.

I genuinely pity the decent Americans, of whom there must be many. I wonder how many of them are scrambling to obtain a passport to another country? If I was a US citizen I would be scared. It's worrying enough living in the UK, but at least we don't have 35 million + guns to worry about Sad.

I have dual nationality - a UK passport and another far off country (Not the US) and I'm bloody glad.

He's still infectious and is therefore an irresponsible arsehole, putting others at risk. Nothing to do with living in fear.

A lot of world leaders have managed to find that elusive middle ground between 'Don't be afraid' and 'WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!'

But then, they do have the advantage over Trump of not being thick as mince.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/10/2020 18:40

One of the messages in Canada is 'be kind, be calm and be safe'

Halfway between we're all going to die and don't worry. It's possible. In NZ Ardern has repeatedly called the country "our team of five million".

You know nice, calm, empathetic messaging.

AlternativePerspective · 06/10/2020 18:42

Well, just had an alert from sky news saying that his doctors are now saying Trump has 0 symptoms. Hmm

If he did lose all taste, we'd never know.

I feel like that was Canada's national motto way back before Covid Grin

flapjackfairy · 06/10/2020 19:30

Well nobody recovers from laboured breathing like that in a few hours so no doubt they are telling the world what Trump wants them to. He looked like a v sick man to me on that balcony. I have a child with breathing problems and all.the signs were that he was struggling a lot to keep his oxygen levels up so I am not fooled.

Ladyks · 06/10/2020 19:47

Lots of name calling on this thread. It’s so sad the people that have lost their lives to this disease, but the statistics and facts remain that the majority of us - even those immune compromised & the elderly, will survive it. The full repercussions of lockdown have yet to come out, but they will as soon as the furlough scheme ends. I think America will be much better off than us economically after all of this.

gingganggooleywotsit · 06/10/2020 19:52

He never had covid. He is a truly dangerous egomaniac. His supporters should hang their heads in shame. I actually think he is evil.

AuntMasha · 06/10/2020 19:55

Marina Hyde’s article cheered me up a bit;

“Yet there he was, this hideous kink in the arc of history, giving the most dangerous balcony performance since Michael Jackson had his baby crowdsurf off one. The American people are all Blanket now.”

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/oct/06/donald-trump-coronavirus-balcony-drugs

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/10/2020 20:17

Love Marina Hyde.

KaptainKaveman · 06/10/2020 21:30

Yes I think he is evil as well. He's proud of himself despite being a disgrace to his country, a coward, an imbecile with a minus IQ , a cheating, swindling racist misogynistic liar and an international embarrassment who forces his wives to sign NDCs. There aren't enough nasty nouns in the English language to capture fully the utter vileness of his sleazy, cheating, lying thick-as-pigshite uneducated hideousness.
I can keep trying I guess.

The US may be better off economically (that's not a given), but they will; have sold their soul to the devil in the process.

I think we needs to consider that when we look at the economy versus people's lives and health. What kind of country will the UK be if we sacrifice people for money? I know it's not as simple as that, but I do worry about how morally bankrupt we will be when this is all over.
