That seems a lot

So I’m wondering if it’s true

In a very unscientific poll

YABU = not xmas shopping yet
YANBU = yes I’m shopping for Christmas

I always start in September...just picking up a few bits as and when I see them...I prefer this to one huge shopping trip. It's easier on the wallet too! I always buy loads of stocking fillers for my dc...they get about fifty gifts each in them so I try and pick up bits on my normal shopping trips.

Tattoocrazymum · 03/10/2020 14:18

Ive finished my 2 year olds, almost finished my 9 year olds, then 2 teenagers and parents/siblings so.
Im worrying less now ive already made a good start

ClementineWoolysocks · 03/10/2020 14:19

Nope. I don't believe that Christmas has to be about loads of 'stuff'. The excess actually makes me a bit queasy.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 03/10/2020 14:22

My ds has a birthday in early October, so generally I don’t start shopping for Christmas until after that. However this year I’m trying to get a small craft business off the ground, so although I haven’t bought any gifts yet, I have been making Christmas stock and buying materials for more.

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 03/10/2020 14:23

Started months ago. I always do and have saved lots of money in the past. If I see bargains on things they will still like such as lego or star wars then I put them away.

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 14:25

I finished mine over a month ago

Coldnights · 03/10/2020 14:26

Yes I’ve started as I prefer to spread the cost over the year

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 14:28

I asked people in June 😂
They told me :)

The kids, are pretty easy, and not much will change in afew months with them, they aren't at those type of ages yet

covidmonkey · 03/10/2020 14:33

I have bought present my dc wish in reduced price since summer. I have a list of things and I look for bargains.

caringcarer · 03/10/2020 14:43

YANBU. I have started buying a few extras each week with my good shopping and I put them in a box in my wardrobe. I have also bought a few Stocking fillers.

I do that. Tin of this and jar of that won't go off. It means no giant shopping in December. Just get the fresh stuff
TPS2009 · 03/10/2020 16:23

I normally start earlier than this to be fair, but I’ve started this week

bengalcat · 03/10/2020 16:25

I've booked my Waitrose delivery slot for Christmas Eve if that counts . Otherwise no , I leave shopping until mid December at the earliest .

RuthW · 03/10/2020 16:31

I've finishef

lazylinguist · 03/10/2020 16:33

I never start until mid November at the very earliest. I love Christmas and loathe the idea of diluting it by letting it creep forward into early autumn. I don't feel the need to spread the cost - not that we are wealthy, but in our family we don't really go overboard with spending on presents. I'm always astonished by the 'How much do you spend? Christmas threads on here tbh.

Lalanbaba · 03/10/2020 16:58

I usually buy everything the last couple of weeks, but this year I have been made redundant and I started buying things from September. One or two food /drink items every week (have some chocolates /booze/snacks/mincemeat /turkey crown) also I have some presents for the little one coz I saw them in offer.
I would say I'm half way through

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 17:05

There was some amazing offers / deals in things over the last few months when the shops were closed....

Mumsnext1979 · 03/10/2020 17:05

I start in the January in the sales....

HotToCold · 03/10/2020 17:06

Iv got this.... Im sorted....

VillageGreenTree · 03/10/2020 17:08

I am surprised it's only a third.
We start in Sept in order to spread it out.

I8toys · 03/10/2020 17:13

I went out this morning purposefully to get advent calendars and Christmas food stuffs. I hate shopping especially now so it will only get more stressful nearer to Christmas.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/10/2020 17:26

The thought of queueing up behind barriers in dismal car parks, in the rain and cold surrounded by miserable masked people gave me the kick up the backside I needed to get started.

3 gifts to go and I'll be done. All other presents, Advent calendars, stocking fillers, wrapping paper, cards, ribbons etc all bought. Both my DCs and 3 nephews, my mum and dad all have winter birthdays and I've finished those too. It's nice feeling ahead of the game.

Sniv · 03/10/2020 17:26

I don't go out specifically to do Xmas shopping yet, but start picking things up as I see them from September onwards. The less shopping I have to do in December the better.

My family are also fine with charity shop gifts for some things, and obviously you have to grab them when they're there as they'll be long gone by December. I've bought 6 out-of-print books, lots of beads and buttons for a crafter, and a few bits and pieces that were unopened in the original packaging.

lockdownconfused · 03/10/2020 17:35

I have most of my Christmas presents already just stocking bits and a main present for my 14 year old left to go. I have four children so buy stuff every month.

Dobbyismyfavourite · 03/10/2020 17:40

Nope. I can't even think about Christmas until after half-term. Although I have wondered what will be best for my MIL, with the rule of six, as realistically we will not be able to meet with DH's siblings and their families this year.
