to not believe Trump has Covid?

Well, MN, does he or doesn't he?

YANBU - no, he doesn't have it
YABU - yes he probably does, why would they lie?

Is this just some ploy to miss next debates and make him look 'tough' when he sails through it without getting ill?

Why would you be proud of someone aged 11 who voiced views like this? Wishing someone dead on a subject she knows very little about? How proud you must be..

knittingaddict · 02/10/2020 13:12

@Bathroom12345

Kitty and Knitting. Its shocking that your young daughter said that. Does she really mean that? Does she know in great detail about US politics? Somehow I dont think so.
Not my daughter or Kitty's either.

I can understand why the person's daughter said it though. Hence my post. If either of my daughter's had said it I wouldn't be ashamed at all. Trump is 74 and I'm sure he thinks all other 74 year olds are expendable. I think the world would be a much better place without him.

dreamingbohemian · 02/10/2020 13:12

Here's the thing. I think if Trump DID have covid, they would absolutely all lie about it, the same way they have been lying about his health for four years.

They would lie for all the reasons people have said, not wanting to look weak or like covid is a big deal.

So I don't think it's crazy to question whether it's true. We have no idea what's really happening in the White House, there may be some reason he needs to stay home and they've decided covid sounds better than what's really going on.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 02/10/2020 13:12

For those who dont believe he has it, you must not know him very well.
This is probably the WORST thing he could imagine happening this close to the election. He will have to isolate for 10 to 14 days. No rallies, No press conferences. Just stuck up in the living quarters with Melania for 2 weeks. He is a showman, he needs a crowd, and audience. There is no way he would fake this and hide away for that length of time.

Bathroom12345 · 02/10/2020 13:13

So who else would a 11 year old wish dead?

Deadringer · 02/10/2020 13:13

i am on the fence too. On the one hand he absolutely would fake it if it suited his agenda, on the other it would be political suicide if he got caught faking it so it's ridiculously risky.
I hope he doesn't have it, and is caught out in his lies.

Bathroom12345 · 02/10/2020 13:14

I agree with YES. This isnt what he would want at all.

HelloToMyKitty · 02/10/2020 13:15

No, it isn’t. It’s a perfectly reasonable thing for anyone to say. Be proud of her Kitty

To be clear, I was the poster critical of this response and I stand by that. It’s a horrible thing to say about someone, and her daughter should be ashamed of herself.

The amazing thing about America is that one person cannot have a huge impact on domestic policy due to checks and balances. For instance, if you wanted family separation at the border to end, you have to legislate that through Congress. An executive order is not a proper solution (and indeed they often get struck down by courts).

Her daughter would not be aware of these complications. And where does it end?

Would you say that Obama got what was coming to him if he got coronavirus? After all, he is mostly responsible for greenlighting the unprecedented drone strikes which killed hundreds of innocent civilians overseas.

It would be reprehensible, would it not?

Bathroom12345 · 02/10/2020 13:16

My DH is planning to stay up all night to watch the results. I dont think anyone can call the result at all though. Biden isnt the right candidate to go up against Trump. They deserve to lose.

knittingaddict · 02/10/2020 13:17

Some people are getting confused by the quote function. It was EternalOptimist7 who has the daughter with a firm grasp on US politics. I salute her.

PicsInRed · 02/10/2020 13:17

We won't have Pence for too long. Jist until the election

There was similar assurance 4 years ago and look where that went. I do think Pence could be elected over Biden. If anything, Pence is more electable as he hasn't any sex scandals that we know of. Now there's your Founding Father. 🤔

DGRossetti · 02/10/2020 13:18

He will have to isolate for 10 to 14 days.

Not really. He'll just drive to Tallahassee to test his eyesight.

Bathroom12345 · 02/10/2020 13:18

That is why it is so worrying that a child who has no real idea of US politics would have views like this. She is 11!! She has no idea what she is saying.

MerryMarigold · 02/10/2020 13:20

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this...and I am not conspiracy theorist at all. I just trust him even less than I trust Boris, which is saying something.

Thelnebriati · 02/10/2020 13:21

YANBU but if this allows him to step down without losing face then I'm happy to go along with it.

You seem very fixated on the 11-year old

Have you met the 11 year old in question? Most 11 year olds have a firm grasp on what makes someone a vile human being. It's not even about politics. It's about misogyny, racism and narcissism.

Biden is not perfect, mainly because of his age, but he is 10 times the man that Trump is (not hard). The US needs a reset button and Biden will do for now.

Bathroom12345 · 02/10/2020 13:24

I have grown up children and I am shocked that someone would admire an 11 year old who had views like this. That is all.

Mittens030869 · 02/10/2020 13:25

I don't really think that the 11 year old was wishing Trump would die. The vast majority of people with it don't die after all. It was more the case that she was saying, 'serves him right.' Which I sympathise with, though, having had long Covid, I wouldn't wish the virus on anyone.

And you know this how? It’s perfectly possible for an 11 year old to have a fundamental understanding of current affairs. If it was my daughter I’d be proud of her.

These past 6 months have been tough on us all.

How many 11 year olds in WW2 had to go to school to find a classmate or two wasn't going to school ever again ? Or saw what was left of their neighbours being picked out of the rubble a limb at a time after a direct hit ?

dreamingbohemian · 02/10/2020 13:28

Oh please, you cannot look at everything that's happened in the last four years and say that Trump has not had an enormous impact Hmm

The same right-wing faction controls the White House, the Senate and now probably the Supreme Court. Not much balance there.

And please stop repeating Trump's lie that he's just doing what Obama did with respect to family separation. There's a gazillion fact checking articles explaining why this is not true, you can read the BBC's version here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-44303556

Eura · 02/10/2020 13:29

Interesting thread - lets just suppose he doesn't have it - but then comes down with it some time in the future - (after he's won a second term?) Heaven help us!!

And I've no doubt that some of them wished that they were old enough to be in the army so they could fight back against the Nazis.

knittingaddict · 02/10/2020 13:33

I'm going to revise my view slightly.

In an ideal world I would like to see Trump voted from office, lose all his assets and end up in prison for just a few of the crimes that he has committed. I really, really hope that happens.

If I thought for a moment that severe CV would make him grow some empathy I would go for that, but it's not going to happen. He's incapable of thinking twice about anyone other than himself.
