to not believe Trump has Covid?

Well, MN, does he or doesn't he?

YANBU - no, he doesn't have it
YABU - yes he probably does, why would they lie?

Is this just some ploy to miss next debates and make him look 'tough' when he sails through it without getting ill?

@Witchend

I do agree with you. It happened at a time when I was very ill and my DH called 999 twice and was asked whether I was able to say four words or was going blue. It was actually very upsetting.

I think most hospitals admissions would have taken place at the point where BoJo went into intensive care.

HairyToity · 02/10/2020 10:21

I think he has it. Whilst he'd probably happily fake it, the odds of White House leaks that he has faked covid are too high.

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/10/2020 10:21

I'm another one wondering if it's an excuse being used by the party to get him away from the election. I've suspected that there is something wrong with DT for a long while, but the party high-ups have been unable to wrench him from office. I wonder if he's just reached the point of being so completely off the rails that they have decided to use Covid as a way to quietly retire him.

I certainly hope so.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 02/10/2020 10:23

My American friend reckons he's had a TIA/stroke or something and they're saying it's Covid because obviously they can't come out and say he's had a stroke
Well, if your friend says that, it must be true
🤣🤣🤣

I agree with this, although to be fair- much easier to manage a security nightmare with a planned move rather than an emergency admission. I wouldn't be surprised if the nearest NHS hospitals to Downing Street have a protocol for if the PM needs emergency care that can't be provided at home/privately. ICU's generally are more secure than a general ward, too, so easier to manage access. (from excess staff to nosy relatives etc).

I think Buckingham Palace has a fully equipped medical centre to save having to transfer the RF out.

mumwon · 02/10/2020 10:25

another conspiracy theory: The Republican Party forced his doctor to give him a positive covid test so they could keep him from making a bigger mess at the next meeting with Bidden

Squidwitch · 02/10/2020 10:26

I'm really enjoying this discussion, makes a change from the grunted interaction from DH. I am like a Labrador with its head tilted anticipating what happens next few days... Symptoms, POTUS flying to a lovely state of the art health retreat, what Biden is going to do with this mixed blessing, online debates... Genuinely gripping stuff

sadie9 · 02/10/2020 10:27

When he greets Melania after the Debate he gives her such a cold response. Wonder if one or other of them already knew they had it at that point..

NandosPeriometer · 02/10/2020 10:27

@Tellmetruth4

I don’t believe him but I don’t know what the game plan is. He literally cannot afford to lose the election. He has $400m in personal debts due to be repaid in 3 years and it’s clear from his tax returns that he’s skint. He has pending law suits coming from all directions. There’s a chance that if he loses the election he could end up broke and jailed. He needs to stay president for the rest of his life to avoid it all.

He can’t drop out or lose. It’s all very shady. Maybe he’ll use this as an excuse to try and delay the election?

I heard that Melania renegotiated her prenup when he decided to stand for re-election. He needs to be married to have the approval of the religious right but a divorce would be costly too
MJMG2015 · 02/10/2020 10:27

Fuck knows - and THAT is the real problem.

Isabella70 · 02/10/2020 10:29

@rorosemary

I know the chance is small and he will get the quickest, best health care available, but what happens to the election if one or both candidates die so close to the election date?
There was an episode of the West Wing about a Senate candidate who died after apperaring on the ballot paper but before the election. The rules (which of course may only apply to the Senate and even only to the State involved) said that the ballot had to go ahead with the dead man's name on it...
sonsmum · 02/10/2020 10:30

He will have it, but the real danger is if he survives unscathed and has a very mild attack, as then he will really think it is a fuss over nothing and that the world is overreacting, and he can then make further crazy decisions which will really affect us all.

GeorgeDavidson · 02/10/2020 10:32

'He literally cannot afford to lose the election. He has $400m in personal debts due to be repaid in 3 years and it’s clear from his tax returns that he’s skint. '

Yeah. so I've heard this - does being President means someone pays your debts off? Or is it just that he gets to live in a free house for a bit, so saves money??
Or they won't bankrupt a President?
Why does getting another stint at POTUS make a difference?

mumwon · 02/10/2020 10:32

& re the his doctors truthfulness; they said he was in excellent health & the blood test results showed results & the interpretations which showed high levels of testosterone for his age without explaining that it was due to the Finasteride he was taking for baldness - basically the idea in showing this was give evidence of his health & manliness

mumwon · 02/10/2020 10:33

because (I believe?) that as President he can't be sued?

GeorgeDavidson · 02/10/2020 10:35

'another conspiracy theory: The Republican Party forced his doctor to give him a positive covid test so they could keep him from making a bigger mess at the next meeting with Bidden'

That's NOT a conspiracy that's so likely.

OP posts:

I think it could be either. I wouldn’t be surprised if he faked it and will use it to try to delay/derail the election. Or to garner sympathy “how can you say I don’t understand coronavirus when I’ve had it?”.

I imagine he’ll also use it to show how “strong” and “healthy” he is- “see, it’s nothing if you are strong..... bet Biden would not survive it” or even “look, I’m God’s chosen candidate as I survived coronavirus”.

Sophiafour · 02/10/2020 10:35

I find it very odd it took him so long to catch it (if, indeed, this isn't a bit of "Fake News" following that debate debacle...). What's he made of, teflon?

On the subject of him lying, is this a man who is renowned for his accurate version of events? Curious timing, wouldn't you say? I'm sure he's obviously going to power through like the Superman he is, no rest for this devoted president! Not like Sleepy Joe, eh.

Meanwhile, I'll be in the (virtual) chapel praying for America. (And the rest of us.)

mumwon · 02/10/2020 10:36

Never have so many people hoped for some one to be really ill!

Ericaequites · 02/10/2020 10:36

If Trump should pass before the election, the Vice President, Mike Pence will become President and the candidate. Mr. Pence will appoint a new Vice President. He's much nicer than Trump, more polite, and his wife always knows where he sleeps at night. Pence has significant tells when Trump says very stupid things.

Georgyporky · 02/10/2020 10:37

Whatever he's got/had, I hope it's not too trivial.

LadyWithTheNeonSparklers · 02/10/2020 10:39

@MJMG2015

Fuck knows - and THAT is the real problem.
This.

First thing DH said is bet he's faking to get out of next debates - but on other hand he'd done a lot to put himself at higher risk of contracting it and it's rife in US - both situations are highly plausible IMO .

Ericaequites · 02/10/2020 10:42

The date of Presidential Elections is set under the Constitution, and cannot be changed.
The Vice President automatically becomes President if the President passes. He also presides over the Senate, casting the tiebreak ing vote in the Senate. Otherwise, as John Nace Garner said, "Being Vice President is as exciting as a pitcher of warm spit."

mumwon · 02/10/2020 10:42

Pence is a religious zealot who also believes in health conspiracy theories - I think he is both an antivaxer & the whole debacle about Autism being caused by MMR
Just because he isn't a screamer doesn't mean he isn't dangerous!

HelloToMyKitty · 02/10/2020 10:43

Bunch of conspiracy theorists here. If it’s reported that he has it, he has it. He’s not going to take two weeks off his rallies (big events for him in key swing states) unless it’s something serious.

Also he’ll be over quarantine just in time for the next debate (assuming it doesn’t cause more serious issues) so will be missing two critical weeks of campaigning beforehand. I don’t see how this helps at all tbh
