Pregnancy with twins? Did you have a feeling before scan?

Also if you have also single pregnancies . What differences were there?

Very interested mama!

I dreamt I was having twins but didnt take it seriously I was very surprised it was twins! A few people said they guessed it was twins (or thought I had my dates wrong) as I was showing at the12 week scan. But my belly has always been quite big!

edenhills · 01/10/2020 19:31

No other pregnancies so cant compare.

rivertoskateaway · 01/10/2020 19:58

I think a lot of people suspect twins, but are wrong. Especially with second pregnancies because you tend to get bigger quicker!

Someonesayroadtrip · 01/10/2020 20:03

I dreamt I was having twins but no I had no idea other than that, I had an early scan for reassurance after a previous loss so was probably 7/8 weeks. It was a total shock.

honeylulu · 01/10/2020 20:10

Yes though I was on clomid and when I'd had my follicles scanned the sonographer did say I might ovulate twice. I didn't give it a lot of thought though.

When I was waiting for my early scan (approx 8 weeks) the woman before me came out of the room excitedly because she'd been told she was expecting twins (she already had a baby under 1) and as clear as a bell I thought "the sonographer is going to tell me I'm having twins too". I went in and ... she did.

Sadly later miscarried both Sad

ivfbeenbusy · 01/10/2020 20:17

I transferred 2 embryos so knew it was possible although we had had 3 failed IVF transfers before that so didn't think we'd have one stick let alone two

I had a scan at 6 weeks due to a history of ectopics so we had twins confirmed very early. That being said I was in maternity wear by 9 weeks so If I hadn't had an early scan I certainly would have suspected twins by the time I had the 12 week scan

Symptoms wise I didn't have any. And at 19 weeks other than a massive bump I still don't

Difference wise between this and my Singleton pregnancy - very little. Didn't have morning sickness with DD or with these twins. BUT I am pretty much on bed rest now at 19 weeks as physically a twin pregnancy can be brutal - I didn't really feel pain/discomfort until about 8 months with DD

chunkychipmonk · 01/10/2020 20:17

I strongly suspected I was carrying twins as the pregnancy test was strongly positive even before my missed period. I also had awful nausea very early on, even before I'd taken a pregnancy test and this wasn't the case with my previous singleton. I also had lots of lower abdo pain which I think was the stretching. Awful diarrhoea too.

When the sonographer said it was twins I was so relieved as I thought there was something seriously wrong with me, I felt so bad.

Tiredforfive45 · 01/10/2020 20:18

No clue. Very surprised at my 12 week scan!

In hindsight, my sickness started earlier and the first trimester tiredness was much worse (but I had put that down to having a 3 year old while being pregnant!)

addictedtotheflats · 01/10/2020 20:20

No idea, biggest shock ever. Line was SO strong though on day of missed period. Unfortunately I lost one of them at 9 weeks, I had no sickness either.

wineandroses1 · 01/10/2020 20:26

I knew early on; it just felt so different. My lovely girl is a smashing teenager. My lovely boy died at birth. I miss who he could have been.

FreeButtonBee · 01/10/2020 20:29

It was my first pregnancy so no. Had no clue. It was a HUGE surprise

Onthetrain75 · 01/10/2020 20:31

No clue. Never crossed my mind. Massive shock.

BeardieWeirdie · 01/10/2020 20:32

I’m so sorry wineandroses for you and your daughter

IAmADancer · 01/10/2020 20:35

It didn’t cross my mind for one minute that it might be twins. I suffered with horrendous nausea and sickness, which can be a side effect of twins but I just thought it was normal sickness. I was in a state of shock when I saw two babies on the screen. I burst in tears, my husband just kept saying ‘how is there two!!’

funtimefrank · 01/10/2020 20:37

I had ivf so knew it was possible. However I had been pregnant a few times before (all lost before 10 weeks) and this time I was sick as a dog from a day before my test date. So I tested and watched the strongest blue line come up immediately.

Carried on being massively sick. I had felt mildly puke in previous pregnancy but this was full on vomit multiple times a day from the very start.

Scan at 7 weeks as ivf and 2 heartbeats although one was weak. However she pulled her socks up and by 9 weeks had caught up. I was in mat clothes by 13 weeks (by 39 weeks 5ft 3 me was basically round).

hopingforsleep · 01/10/2020 20:41

I felt ovulation which I've never done before or since and was convinced from then on that it was twins so 12 well scan just felt like a confirmation. I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms at all throughout but did get big very quickly

SocksForceFive · 01/10/2020 20:49

Had IVF so knew it was possible, but didn't think I'd even get pregnant so put it to the back of my mind. My husband however just knew from the moment we had the transfer.

Symptoms wise I felt dreadful until I was about 14 weeks. Never actually vomited, but felt like I was at the start of gastric flu for the whole first semester and a bit. I also got the bonus symptoms- dry eyes, nose bleeds etc.

44PumpLane · 01/10/2020 20:51

My first and only (by choice) pregnancy, natural conception.

Ended up having a scan at 9 weeks as was taken to hospital with severe abdominal pain (gall stones) and told the woman scanning me that I assume she was about to tell me it was twins.

I've never been maternal so always said it'd be sods law I'd have twins. My maternal grandmother had 2 sets of fraternal and a bunch of singleton pregnancies but I just always assumed I'd have twins if I got pregnant.

Orangeteddy · 01/10/2020 20:54

Yes, suspected during 2nd pregnancy. Symptoms were very pronounced early on and when talking to a guy at work who I knew had twins, experienced an overwhelming desire to say that I was having twins too.

They were identical twins but sadly didn’t survive and I lost them during pregnancy 😞

Lantern156 · 01/10/2020 20:56

I was half convinced I was having twins - very strong early test and they run in my family. Definitely only one baby in there!

busyberightback · 01/10/2020 20:58

@ I'm so sorry x

XFPW · 01/10/2020 21:10

No clue.

Twin pregnancy was my 3rd pregnancy.

I was sick, but I’d been very sick with first two pregnancies so this was expected. I was actually a bit less sick with the DTs than with the others and I lost less weight.

Despite it being my 3rd pregnancy, I didn’t show much earlier - Or at least not any earlier than 2nd pregnancy. I certainly wasn’t showing before 12 week scan.

I wasn’t huge at any point actually. I wasn’t big with any of them though so there really wasn’t any difference. (Although I gave birth at 35 weeks to the DTs and I guess I maybe looked full term-ish. Even my DSis (who is a total bitch) remarked in shock when she saw me that I wasn’t huge.)

I can honestly say that my twin pregnancy really wasn’t any different to the other two.

thewalrus · 01/10/2020 21:14

IVF pregnancy back in the days of routine 2 embryo transfer so it was definitely a possibility.
But it was very different from my previous singleton pregnancy. Tested about 5 days early because I had the metallic taste (which had been my first symptom. Strong positive test. I was puffy and exhausted and nauseous and when I had the scan at about six weeks it basically confirmed what we already knew. I had a strong feeling before we started the cycle that that was what would happen and it did.
I'm so sorry for the losses people in here have had.

isurvived3under2 · 01/10/2020 21:14

I was SO sick. Joked to my husband, 'what if there's two in there making me so sick'. He laughed. We didn't laugh at the scan, our first had just turned one.
