Pregnancy with twins? Did you have a feeling before scan?

Also if you have also single pregnancies . What differences were there?

Very interested mama!

I was shocked to discover I was pregnant and then find out there were two. I later found out non IDs run in the family. Four sets!

I had them at 38.5 weeks, planned section. 6lb 7 and 6lb 5. No complications apart from being 5ft 1 tall and 5ft 1 round. I was told there would be complications as I was short with a shallow cervix.
I swear they would have baked even longer if I'd let them.

Sorry to those who have lost a twin. Flowers

Bubbletrouble43 · 01/10/2020 22:38

I didn't suspect I was having twins but I should have. I was showing before 12 weeks and sick as hell.

TORDEVAN · 01/10/2020 22:40

I had no inclination - my first 2 early scans (because of bleeding/pain) showed just 1 embryo!! By the 3rd there was questionable 2nd yolk sac in there and by the 4th scan about 8 weeks there was definitely 2!

Weirdly felt much better than my first (until 28 weeks 😅)

Mine came at 35 weeks and had no issues. Just took time to establish feeding.

funtimefrank · 01/10/2020 22:43

@Marmitecrackers my pregnancy was totally fine, low risk all the way through and babies born at 39 weeks fit as fleas. Dd1 was heavier than I was when I was born and there was only one of me.

I had consultant care as standard just cos they were multiples. I also had to have a c section as they were breech/transverse but it was planned and lovely and calm.

Albgo · 01/10/2020 22:49

@wineandroses1 huge hugs.

Hirewiredays · 01/10/2020 22:49

Yes! Felt out of breath, intense pregnancy symptoms, seasickness, all before 7 weeks. Had a big implantation bleed a few days before my period was due. Had this feeling as well. I'm an identical twin, 4th pregnancy, tall, 40 and carrying a bit of excess weight. I miscarries one twin at the end of the first trimester.

Foldinthecheese · 01/10/2020 22:49

So sorry to those who have experienced losses. Flowers

I had no idea there were two. I found out I was pregnant the day we were leaving on holiday. We had all sorts of plans to go on a zip wire course, white water rafting, etc. I still did it all, and didn’t feel too bad apart from occasional nausea. When we got back I was exhausted, which I assumed was due to jet lag. I went for an early scan because I had previously had a molar pregnancy, so I found out at six weeks that there were two. I was so pleased to see a heartbeat after our previous experience, and then the sonographer said, “And there’s the second heartbeat.” We were both shocked and kind of laughing when she reassured us that she’d had a good look around and there definitely wasn’t a third.

Looking back, I think it was the molar pregnancy that caused the twins. My HCG levels were raised for several months, so I didn’t ovulate. I think when they finally dropped my body had kind of a backlog of eggs, if that makes sense.

My twins are nearly five now. They were born at 37+1 after being induced, 6lbs each with no complications. I have since had a singleton and the pregnancy wasn’t too different, apart from being more tired with the twins.

Hirewiredays · 01/10/2020 22:51

Also a really strong test line straightaway at all times of the day.

monkeyonthetable · 01/10/2020 22:51

I had no idea. I was convinced the baby was a girl. It was two boys.

Africa2go · 01/10/2020 23:03

Never crossed my mind - and I'm a twin Grin!!

I'd always been told it skipped a generation. And I'd had a big bleed too - so I thought I'd had a miscarriage so having a very early scan at 5+4 and being told there were 2, I was gobsmacked Shock. Couldn't believe it. No real symptoms (symptoms were much worse for a later (singleton) pregnancy).

@Marmitecrackers my twins were 12+ weeks early so had a bit of a tricky start with NICU/SCBU but all good - normal, healthy children now.

Anonymous555 · 01/10/2020 23:37

I had my first scan 7+5 weeks. Unplanned pregnancy. I knew the night before that it was twins. Boy and girl. Wasn't shocked when they found 2 heartbeats, never asked the sexes. Got exactly what I expected at 32+4

Lardlizard · 01/10/2020 23:39

No clue, until I saw two babies On the scan, although I was extremely sick

Vivi0 · 01/10/2020 23:43

I felt very strongly in my second pregnancy that I was carrying twins. But nope! It was just my sweet baby boy in there.

Was a little disappointed, because I suffer from HG and don’t think I could manage a third pregnancy.

HelloHello89 · 01/10/2020 23:44

yes!! I had a dream at 6 weeks. My uterus felt achy & heavy/full and my morning sickness was definitely doubled. I can compare this to a single pregnancy as well.

Lardlizard · 01/10/2020 23:44

I lost one twin at 3 months pregnant and the other twin after he was born
Very very hard
But I can look back on the day of finding out I was pregnant with twins and smile
I will never forget the shock and the look in the radiographers face
And I remember saying to dh well we are on a new adventure now.......

Inniu · 01/10/2020 23:46

I am sorry for all your losses.

No heartbeat was found at my first scan so I had a second scan a week later to confirm a missed miscarriage. I was holding my breath hoping for a heartbeat. I was so relieved to see a heartbeat the second heartbeat was a total surprise.

Tigerbeer · 01/10/2020 23:54

I have name changed for this 😬

I heard, erm... a voice Blush About a week after conception, before it was early enough to take a pregnancy test. It was an internal voice, I wasn’t actually hallucinating..

It said “You are pregant, it’s twins, a girl and a boy. You’re going to have some problems but everything will be okay”. I reported this to my partner, who didn’t take much notice, and I didn’t really dwell on it either.

Early on, I was bleeding and booked in for a scan. The night before, I had a dream where I was looking after two babies in a double pushchair. Was still surprised to find out it was twins though! Didn’t have IVF or any reason to expect twins.

And, “the voice” (let’s call it intuition instead Confused) was right. I had a life threatening complication, but was alright in the end. Also did have a boy and a girl - and like a poster above, didn’t need to find out from the scans, I was sure from the beginning that I knew which was which.

Tigerbeer · 01/10/2020 23:57

Also sorry for your loss @Lardlizard, and for the others who have had losses Flowers

MsEllany · 01/10/2020 23:58

Nope and nope.

The only thing I thought and was right about was that I was having boys, but this was based on the fact that there’s no girls born in my husbands family for about three generations!

Mine are ID, I had TTTS but mildly and gave birth vaginally at 36 weeks - they were little but fine, no special care needed. The TTTS has resolved by then else I would have had a section so as not to stress the babies. I was so so ill during my twin pregnancy. Didn’t vomit but was constantly nauseous and lightheaded. Couldn’t stay upright for more than half an hour without fainting.

TooTrusting · 02/10/2020 00:09

No strong feelings.
Difference in pregnancies was if you have 2 placentas you have twice the hormones. So I was extremely tired and I craved protein not carby shit.
It was a shock (I already had 2 and had not planned on 4!)
My first thought at the scan (DH away so I was alone) was "oh bugger I'll have to get a new car".

ScotsinOz · 02/10/2020 03:35

No idea- was five and half months pregnant before I found out I was pregnant too!

Had only gained 5lbs by this point, then went in to gain another 50 in the last three months. Oops 😬

They were a total accident - but I am so glad it happened and I wouldn’t change them for anything.

Bubbletrouble43 · 02/10/2020 14:18

@monkeyonthetable
Lol I was convinced I was having a boy and had 2 girls

Lotsofsocks · 02/10/2020 14:43

I guessed the first set were twins at about 9 weeks, I'd had very bad morning sickness. Morning sickness with my daughter and these two who are non-identical girls.

With the second set, I had no idea until I went for the scan, my first set had just turned one. No sickness or tiredness - identical girls.

Stabbitha · 02/10/2020 14:50

I had a very strong positive at 8dpo, then i had extreme sickness requiring hospitalization at 5.5weeks. They took my bloods and said I was producing enough hormone to sustain 8 babies!

I was excepting a multiple pregnancy, just DD was in there.

isurvived3under2 · 02/10/2020 22:24

@Marmitecrackers no complications other than developing Cholestasis at 35 weeks, got slightly out of control so was induced at 36+6. Twin 2 was born breech. Textbook twin birth with just 24 hours in NICU as girls a bit small and sleepy. I also had really bad SPD but pretty sure that's common for singleton pregnancies too.

Babies were well, never had any issues and are now crazy 2.5 year olds.
