Pregnancy with twins? Did you have a feeling before scan?

Also if you have also single pregnancies . What differences were there?

Very interested mama!

I had a very strong feeling it was twins with a few different signs but nope! Just the one lovely baby!

Mabelface · 01/10/2020 21:18

I don't know how, but I just knew. Midwife took me seriously and got me an early scan. Good job she did, as there were 3 of the buggers in there!

HelloMissus · 01/10/2020 21:21

I was massive really quickly.
People kept telling me I was far more along than I was.
When I went to my first scan other women were in jeans and I was already in full maternity stuff.

Stealthfart · 01/10/2020 21:26

Nope, didn’t know I was pregnant until nearly 2 months in. Felt no different to the subsequent singleton pregnancy. I was a heifer both times.

ellesbellesxxx · 01/10/2020 21:26

Nope. I had had two embryos put back but only because they weren’t where they should be so they were hoping one would take.
Found out at 6w5d.. by 9w I was showing!!!

Ilikeviognier · 01/10/2020 21:27

Really strong positive test line- so strong I thought I had got my ovulation dates wrong.

Heavy bleeding at 5/6 weeks which prompted a 6 week scan- apparently this was to do with massive amounts of implantation or something!

Terrible terrible sickness from week 6-13. Couldn’t keep anything down.

Sadly the 12 week scan showed that twin 2 was very sick so we had to do a selective termination. Sad. I still think about it a lot when I look at DS and think about how there should be two of him. Sad

MirandaGoshawk · 01/10/2020 21:29

I had the same experience as HelloMissus (above). Came off the pill and felt weird a week later - pg test - pg. Had check-ups where the baby's heart was listened to, but of course they never searched for a second heartbeat. Twelve week scan - massive shock. I cried for two days. They were born at 29 weeks and spent 8 weeks in SCBU. But they grew up healthy and were a lot of fun. Now they're 26!

Lockdownseperation · 01/10/2020 21:30

I did. It was my 4th pregnancy and my symptoms were much stronger. I didn’t say anything to DH as he would have thought I was being silly. He had a really shock at our 7 week viability scan. Unfortunately I had disappearing twin syndrome and twin 2 stopped growing.

andadietcoke · 01/10/2020 21:30

I dreamt I was having twins too. I then dreamt they were two girls.

clareykb · 01/10/2020 21:30

I had no sickness and felt totally fine but I did do one of those pregnancy tests that says how many weeks and it read longer than was possible I though it was a duff one but in retrospect my hormone levels were probably higher than for a singleton!

HappyAsASandboy · 01/10/2020 21:34

I had no idea at all. I've had four subsequent pregnancies (including some early losses) and I felt differently with all of them but no feeling of twins. The first I knew of my twins was at the 12 week scan.

pheonixrebirth · 01/10/2020 21:38

My 4 year old daughter predicted I was having twins and then I kept on seeing two of everything!
At one point it got ridiculous -2 magpies, 2 pigeons, 2 doves, 2 wood pigeons all lined up outside my window on the garden fence AND 2 squirrels running around the garden.
At that point I was certain I was carrying twins and would of been devastated if not. I got my twins!
I was definitely a lot bigger a lot earlier but in general the exhaustion was the real issue for me in the first trimester but after that the pregnancy was pretty good and I ended up going all the way up to 40 weeks before having a c-section due to first baby being breach.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 01/10/2020 21:43

Yes! Was my 3rd pregnancy. Was showing at 6 weeks and the fatigue was something else. I was completely wiped out. And the vomiting. I’d had nausea in my previous pregnancies but I was vomiting all day every day, waking up in the night to be sick. I spoke to a few friends and told them I was worried it was twins- they laughed at me. When I went for my first scan I said to the sonographer, “please don’t tell me it’s twins!” She didn’t need to tell me, I could see it the moment she put the monitor on me.

They’re 4 now and I did get over it 😂

AriettyHomily · 01/10/2020 21:45

Nope. No idea. Nearly passed out when they told me.

Robs20 · 01/10/2020 21:46

I also dreamt (before being pregnant) that I would have twins. My twin and singleton pregnancies were exactly the same - no morning sickness at all.

Teacup34 · 01/10/2020 21:47

Really strong positive before missed period and I had awful nausea all day and I was really tired. It was my first pregnancy so I never suspected it was twins I sadly lost one at 8 weeks though.

Ilikeviognier · 01/10/2020 21:52

There’s quite a lot of us on here who started with twins and then lost one Sad. I don’t know anyone else this has happened to in real life.

PaxMalmKallax · 01/10/2020 21:54

I found out at an early scan. Best surprise ever, as well as a massive shock. It was my first pregnancy and they’re 12 now. My singleton pregnancy 4 years later felt the same - I was surprised to find out it wasn’t more twins!!

MasterPretender · 01/10/2020 22:03

I was really really sick and diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum very early at 5 weeks, which should have been a massive clue.

I found out at my 7 week scan that it was twins.

If you're a lot sicker than your previous pregnancies then there's a chance it could be twins, although a lot of women with singleton pregnancies do have HG too.

Marmitecrackers · 01/10/2020 22:10

How many of your twins were prem or had complications from being a twin pregnancy?

coronafiona · 01/10/2020 22:20

No idea. Second pregnancy, completely natural. I was sicker and bigger than with my first but I just assumed it was normal second time round. I laughed and cried at the same time, they are the BEST thing that ever happened

Mimilamore · 01/10/2020 22:25

38 years ago I discovered I was having twins 2 weeks before they were born by means of an x ray 😮
They were both breach and born vaginaly, when do I get my medal?
Still have undiagnosed PTSD😶

mammmamia · 01/10/2020 22:30

I’m very sorry for the losses people have experienced.

I also had IVF and two embryos transferred but as first pregnancy I had no idea what to expect. Also had a bleed around 6 week so had early scan and confirmed there were two heartbeats. I was very very sick vomiting several times a day from week 8 to week 13 and in maternity clothes by 10 weeks!

mammmamia · 01/10/2020 22:33

@Marmitecrackers no complications here and they were born at 39 weeks by planned c section as they were breech. I was quite young and healthy and had IVF due to my husband being infertile (a massive shock at the time as we had no idea). So I didn’t have any health issues myself so I always kind of assumed the pregnancy would be fine. We were very lucky though as they had told us at the start my DH had no sperm and would never be able to have children.

ivegotthisyeah · 01/10/2020 22:35

I felt my egg split into two! I sounds weird didn't know I was pregnant but I had what I thought was something wrong with me was in agony! Went for 12 week scan and told I was expecting identical twins! Had very very bad morning sickness! Unfortunately I had twin to twin transfusion and gave birth at 30 weeks only one survived 😔 had a tough pregnancy and a lot of time in SBCU.
I am a twin as well but it didn't cross my mind I would have them! 😆
