To ask if giving a false phone number is a thing?

DuckyMcDuck · 01/10/2020 18:31

Went to a cafe with a friend, we sat outside but she was asked for her phone number. Once we sat down, she admitted that she always gives a false number and so does everyone she knows.

Is this really a common thing? I haven't been in places very much but have always given my number when asked.

@Reviewsplease

I believe a PP said that the info isn't used by Track and trace, so the paper forms are meaningless........
Punter A tests positive for CV, states she was in the Dog and Duck but the pub is a large country pub, no one knows who the punter was close to or not..... she is asked who she spent time with, she doesn't know anyone's names other than her BF, who is the only one contacted & told to isolate.

Very clear after a quick skim read that few know how track and trace works or rather doesn't

@ineedaholidaynow

So what happens if people don't give a shit about your family and one of you gets really sick *@Potterpotterpotter*. In a pandemic everyone needs to have social responsibility
Then they get covid with a less then 1% chance of fatality. My wider family are big enough to decide themselves if they want to take that risk when they go out.
inappropriateraspberry · 01/10/2020 22:38
@ilovesooty I don’t care about the ‘greater good’ or my social responsibility.
I will look out for myself and my family.
Well aren't you lovely?!
And then people moan about local restrictions and wonder why it's happening! 🙄

ilovesooty · 01/10/2020 22:39
@ilovesooty I don’t care about the ‘greater good’ or my social responsibility.

That's fairly evident.

loulouljh · 01/10/2020 22:40

I don't know anyone who gives a correct name or number!!!

MushMonster · 01/10/2020 22:42

Maybe the goverment is a bit right about the 10 pm thing. We should ask mumsnet to check if there are more "I do not care" posts at certain times of the day

Potterpotterpotter · 01/10/2020 22:44

@inappropriateraspberry There haven’t ever been any local restrictions where I live so Iv never moaned or heard anyone moan about it.

nocoolnamesleft · 01/10/2020 22:46

I provide the correct details, because I'm not a selfish fuck.

inappropriateraspberry · 01/10/2020 22:47
@inappropriateraspberry There haven’t ever been any local restrictions where I live so Iv never moaned or heard anyone moan about it.
But there likely will be if everyone is selfish like you!

ineedaholidaynow · 01/10/2020 22:50

I remember a poster on a couple of threads being very cocky about people not abiding the rules in Liverpool and the rates being very low. Possibly not so cocky now!

Potterpotterpotter · 01/10/2020 22:52

@inappropriateraspberry If there is then there is 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I’m in one of the lowest case areas so it’s unlikely

inappropriateraspberry · 01/10/2020 22:53
@inappropriateraspberry If there is then there is 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I’m in one of the lowest case areas so it’s unlikely
So am I, and I'd like to keep it low.

Potterpotterpotter · 01/10/2020 22:56

@inappropriateraspberry better hope it’s not the same area then as me 😂

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/10/2020 22:56

Wasn't there s thread a few days ago where an employer was asking their staff not to go out.

Does no one worry thats where this will end up heading? That with the difficulties getting tests people will have to phone in sick for 14 days , be unpaid. Doesnt anyone worry about more restrictions being placed on them.like employers actually dictating what you do in your own free time.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 01/10/2020 22:59

Do people actually know what giving your name and number to a venue or scanning the QR code is for? As far as understand it isn't so you can be told to self isolate if someone in the cafe/restaurant tests positive. According to the BBC website the QR code scanning is so that "If officials later judge the location to be the centre of an outbreak, they can trigger an alert to users who were there." The notification will also tell people "that if they are feeling unwell they should use the app's symptom checker." QR code scanning is an alternative to taking contact info, so surely the taking of contact info has the same purpose, to identify sources of outbreaks and alert people of them, not to get them to self isolate. It's the contact tracing part of the app, and people who have tested positive giving details of close contacts to Test and Trace which are the main triggers people being told to self isolate.

That's not to say that in some cases if there is an outbreak at a venue, people won't be told to self isolate, but I don't think it's the main purpose of details being taken.

MiniMum97 · 01/10/2020 23:06

I can't believe people are giving false numbers to track and trace. That's fucking appalling. Why on earth would you do that. How completely fucking selfish of you.

Saz12 · 01/10/2020 23:51

So.... the justification for giving a false number is basically “I don’t give a crap about anyone else so long as I’m OK”.

I’m going to take a wild guess that you’re happy enough to accept help from strangers in society though - y’know, like when a higher-than-you earner pays their share of tax, stuff like that.

MsEllany · 02/10/2020 00:07

I thought this thread was about persistent men and giving fake numbers, which I used to do regularly.

Have not had the need to give my details for track and trace but would. I’m quite appalled to be honest that people would give a fake number because it’s ‘none of their business’ when it’s literally to alert you if someone in your vicinity gets Covid. I don’t even know anyone who has been ill but I still don’t want to get it or pass it on. How selfish some people are.

AllesAusLiebe · 02/10/2020 00:19

Always give my correct number and don't know anyone who doesn't.

When I get asked for my address, however, that's a different matter. No one needs to know that. If I can get away with not inputting an address, I leave it blank or at the very most, postcode only.

Iknowthingsthatwillhappen · 02/10/2020 00:27

Wow, I'm more surprised that people ARE giving their real number! Why would you do that, lets face it, the government have got very little right, and aren't even following the rules themselves.......................

ineedaholidaynow · 02/10/2020 00:37

Probably because they have more integrity than the Government @Iknowthingsthatwillhappen. All because someone in Government was a twat doesn’t mean we have to stoop to their level.

FSPea · 02/10/2020 00:41

*family's

Thought you said you weren't thick?

FSPea · 02/10/2020 00:43

That was in response to @Potterpotterpotter's "roof over my families head" but the quote button didn't work

Giraffey1 · 02/10/2020 00:48

I always give my correct details, and so does everyone else I know. There will always be some people who think the rules don’t apply to them (and I don’t just mean Cummings, Corbyn and the SNP MP whose name escapes me) but I’d rather protect myself and others.

I don’t answer unknown numbers but would recognise the NHS T&T number - and any legitimate caller will leave a message.

Mummyworriestoomuch · 02/10/2020 00:56

God there's some arseholes about. Why can't you be responsible adults?
