To ask if giving a false phone number is a thing?

DuckyMcDuck · 01/10/2020 18:31

Went to a cafe with a friend, we sat outside but she was asked for her phone number. Once we sat down, she admitted that she always gives a false number and so does everyone she knows.

Is this really a common thing? I haven't been in places very much but have always given my number when asked.

@MyPersona there are thousands of people like me, they just don’t admit it.

Nice of you to wish covid on me because I give a false number.

Yet I’m the cunt? 😂

OlympicProcrastinator · 02/10/2020 08:14

Well. This is the nastiest bun fight I’ve seen here in a while!

I think this virus has really brought out serious inequalities. There are many people out there who cannot afford to go pubs or cafes but cannot even pop in Mac Donald’s once in a blue moon or grab a sandwich during a work day lunch because they want to follow the rules and genuinely can’t afford to take two weeks off work. Also, many employers simply won’t accept an employee taking off two weeks now irrespective of the reason. It’s a privileged position to be in to have an employer that will.

It is certainly not ok to go for a pub lunch and not give your details but to the PP that said, “just save up so you can afford to take two weeks off”....

Wow. Honestly this place is so out of touch some time’s!

notanothertakeaway · 02/10/2020 08:15

I'm shocked that so many people would give a false number. No wonder the virus is still spreading

At least anonymous forums like this give people the freedom to be honest. Now I realise how many people would give a false number, I'll be even more wary of going to restaurants

ClarencesMum · 02/10/2020 08:15

I didn't tag anyone! God this is hard work....

JinglingHellsBells · 02/10/2020 08:15

You don't give your number in the supermarket, do you assume you are going to infect your family and die every time you go there?

@Janevaljane So you are saying you can't see the difference between sitting at a table in a cafe and being in a supermarket?

Let me tell you.

Supermarket- We wear masks. We keep 2 mtrs apart, we are in and out quite quickly.

Cafe and pub- we are there for up to 2 hours, don't wear masks, are talking and laughing with other people (breathing on them), are sitting close together, are drinking booze so our actions become less careful re. keeping a distance.

Do you really need this spelling out?

Potterpotterpotter · 02/10/2020 08:16

@ClarencesMum

And now we're criticising people's parents?

Bloody hell. Look at what you've become!

@Boobissue

She didn’t fucking tag anyone in this post when she mentioned people’s parents.

Jesus Christ.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/10/2020 08:17

@Potterpotterpotter Have you considered the number you give could well be a real number and that person will think WTF when they are contacted? (And meanwhile, you could be swanning around passing it on to people who will die, as others have said.)

Boobissue · 02/10/2020 08:18

Oh dear @Potterpotterpotter you are getting riled? Coffee shop time?

Duggeehugs82 · 02/10/2020 08:19

If u lie on any track and trace form u r selfish there is no if or buts , just own it. Ur doing it for a selfish reason.
The world doesnt need selfish people, this virus isnt going away if people dont do everything they can to try and reduce risk. Which is ironic as most of the selfish reasons r they cant affort to self isolate from work.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/10/2020 08:20

Its not spreading cos of phone numbers ffs.

God you have all your faith in the wrong things.

Its spreading as it always would as its a virus you cant see it its contagious and half the peolle don't even know they have it as they have no symptoms and if we all took time off for a cold wed have no jobs left to go back to.

The government didnt give a shit when it was foreign disabled and old people getting it. They only acted when rich white men started getting it and now you all conveniently forgot that and they have us blaming eachotyer ajd a bloody mobile number 9 months after the bloody virus got here.

Played a right blinder havent they

Baaaahhhhh · 02/10/2020 08:22

Each and every one of those who are giving false numbers have absolutely no right to then complain about the control of Covid and the consequences of lockdown. You are the problem. Want to know why other countries are doing better? Compliance,, pure and simple.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/10/2020 08:22

One thing this virus has done is

1 bring out the best in some people

and

2 show the worst of humanity and what complete shits some people are

I despair and wonder how they can look at themselves in the mirror each day.

No, I have lunch planned out today. Might grab a coffee after though if I have time before the school run... that way I can give out a false number twice instead of my usual once😂
SoupDragon · 02/10/2020 08:22

Exactly.

You aren't giving a fake number, you are probably giving out someone else's number.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/10/2020 08:23

Oh you are SO funny @Potterpotterpotter

Just don't forget karma, love.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 02/10/2020 08:24

With these attitudes, perhaps people will be contacted via their bank after using their credit/debit card. It makes more sense. 👍

Boobissue · 02/10/2020 08:24

@Potterpotterpotter ask @ClarencesMum how to do it, she's got an awesome answer. Any lying fool could manage it!

loutypips · 02/10/2020 08:25

This is why businesses are asking people to check in with the nhs app. Too many fucking selfish, irresponsible dickheads that think they are immune and above everyone else.

Potterpotterpotter · 02/10/2020 08:25

Better start withdrawing some cash then 👍🏻
Duggeehugs82 · 02/10/2020 08:26

I do find it fascinating and equally weird that people would post something they know would anger people, do u not get enough attention in ur real life?

Dervel · 02/10/2020 08:26

Guys it’s really not worth arguing with a narcissist, they are never going to change, and in fact get off on the negative responses they are getting. Best to disengage and leave them to their wretched little lives.

I already use her top tip but I sometimes only change one digit.

JalapenoDave · 02/10/2020 08:29

Depends on the situation. I would only ever give a false number to a guy I wasn't interested in.
I'm married and 30 now so the chance of this happening is few and far between, but back in my early twenties I did this all the time! Ah the good old days...
However in terms of the track and trace stuff I always give my real number.

GeologyRox · 02/10/2020 08:29

Everyone knows they have to give their details, I don't believe this at all.

Well go and work in a pub or restaurant for a month or so, once you've been shouted at a few times, threatened, had your name splashed all over trip advisor because you asked someone to cooperate with the rules in place that are as alien to you as them, increased your workload and made life difficult for everyone, called a few choice names and generally abused on a daily basis, and told you should be grateful to be experiencing all this. You'll believe then!

Everyone also knows they have to have table service, doesn't stop them approaching the bar and getting shitty when you can't serve them.

Everyone knows there's a one way system in place, doesn't stop them at best ignoring it, at worst telling you to fuck off.

Everyone knows the 'rule of 6', doesn't stop people pulling tables together and getting arsey and leaving shitty reviews about it.

Everyone knows there's limited seating and you can't 'squeeze' another table in for them because they didn't have the foresight to book, doesn't stop them kicking off when you say no though.

If you think the general public are in any way being cooperative about the rules covering hospitality, or treating the staff with any respect whatsoever then you're sadly mistaken.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/10/2020 08:29

Maybe they will start asking for mobile numbers and then text the mobile straight away to make sure it is the right number.
