AIBU to think that most people who have a dishwasher run it once a day?

We bought a new dishwasher recently. It was heavily promoted as coming with six months' supply of Fairy dishwasher tablets. The tablets arrived yesterday and there are 120 of them. That's not six months' supply in this household, as we run the dishwasher every day. AIBU to think that wouldn't be half a year's worth in most other households?

I rang the manufacturer to query it and was told that it was six months' worth based on "data and surveys". Hmmmm. I'm not going to take this to the highest court in the land, obviously, but it does seem a bit crap. AIBU?

@CounsellorTroi

Why would you need to put a colander in the dishwasher? You don't eat out of it or cook in\with it. It's just for washing/peeling veg.
I shake up parboiled baked potatoes in mine, to get the edges all fluffy. Blush

Now I get why some people run it 3x a day.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/10/2020 14:20

Also colander doesn't really get anything stuck to it if it's washed right there and then. But hey. We all do things differently depending what suits us.

Anordinarymum · 01/10/2020 14:20

@Bookaholic73

I wish! I run mine at least twice a day!
Me too
IndieRo · 01/10/2020 14:25

At least twice a day, sometimes three times. Family of five and I cook a lot.

WriteronaMission · 01/10/2020 14:29

Those tablets would last us years. We put it on once every few months just for those days when we've used a lot of pots and bowls for Christmas, birthdays etc. Wash up by hand daily. We wouldn't have a dishwasher if it didn't come with the place we rent.

TheTeenageYears · 01/10/2020 14:32

They may (or may not) be correct but unless there was an * next to the six months with some fine print saying 120 tablets based on average use they are breaking advertising standards rules.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 01/10/2020 14:33

About 3 times a day, family of 6

FrenchBoule · 01/10/2020 14:35

Family of 4,every other day

notso · 01/10/2020 14:43

Family of 6 once a day, twice if I'm cleaning the oven shelves or doing a maintenance cycle.

changerr · 01/10/2020 14:46

Er, twice a week?

No wonder the environment is going to shit with so many of you running your dishwashers twice a day!

RoseMartha · 01/10/2020 14:47

Every day have slimline one

PattyPan · 01/10/2020 15:00

We have a slimline dishwasher that we run every other day but there’s only two of us and we do often get a bit of a backlog so could probably do with running it more often. Yanbu but I think I would have tried to find out the actual number of tablets included if it was a big selling point rather than just a bonus.

PattyPan · 01/10/2020 15:01

Running a full dishwasher is more eco friendly than washing up by hand.
Housewife2010 · 01/10/2020 15:02

Ben and Marina Fogle have four dishwashers! www.telegraph.co.uk/family/parenting/who-needs-four-dishwashers-me/

youdidask · 01/10/2020 15:06

Twice at the moment with 5 people at home.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 01/10/2020 15:08

Family of 4, probably put the dishwasher on about 9-10 times a week.
We cook from scratch every night, the kids have lunch pots which almost fill the top shelf most nights.
Then if I have a day where I bake a lot it needs an extra load.

cookiemonster5 · 01/10/2020 15:11

Once a day usually. Twice at weekends when everyone is here for all 3 meals or if ive been batch cooking or baking

MayFayre · 01/10/2020 15:17

Pretty sure I read that hand washing uses 6-10 times as much water as dishwashing.

ExpectTheWorst · 01/10/2020 15:27

Twice a day, sometimes 3 times if I'm baking or doing a lot of cooking. I do put everything in it though, I absolutely can't see the point of haivng a dishwasher and then doing all the pans etc by hand.
That is absolutely not 6 months' worth of tabs, OP.

Bouledeneige · 01/10/2020 15:28

I run my dishwasher once every few days - but I am on my own now as the DC are at uni. If I left it any longer all the food would be hardened on. When there was 3 of us it was probably the same frequency but we wash up pots and pans by hand.

TorchesTorches · 01/10/2020 15:34

Family of 4. Every 2 to 3 days. I don't put pots and pans or glasses as I wash these by hand. Reuse mugs for tea. Am amazed people use it multiple times a day, or even daily!

garlictwist · 01/10/2020 15:45

We only run ours about 3 times a week but there are only two of us so it takes a while for it to be full.

mindutopia · 01/10/2020 15:57

There's 4 of us, and I'd say maybe 5 days a week. Definitely not every day.
