To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

@SD1978

He probably reckoned you could have a bit of a sleep in, then head down, get the immunisation, and a spot of brunch afterwards. I probably would have booked the later appointment time too for that reason.
That would be nice but I'm up early because my sleep is terrible and I have to work. I started work at 7am yesterday.

I agree - YABU and OTT. If you are going for a flu shot don't you think they will be taking precautions to avoid infection? You really are being ridiculous - firstly for complaining about a difference of only 90 minutes between the two appointment times, and also for coming on MN to moan about it!

Bankingswitch · 01/10/2020 04:01

@cbt944

I think anyone the least bit predisposed to anxiety is going to have it ramped up in this difficult time. I thought I was going to leave my body, sitting outside in my car, prior to my flu shot. Went in when summoned, masked up, and full of trepidation - they were so nice and friendly and well-organised, and ran the thing like a military operation. It was so reassuring, and it felt wonderful once it was done.
That's great to hear! I am sure a lot of my anxiety will roll off my back when it's done.

I will relax even more when 14 days have passed and I find I haven't caught anything.

I'm not even afraid for myself - I thought a lot about my own mortality when I became seriously ill. I am quite philosophical about it, but I have pets I can't leave. When I have given them a good life, I won't worry too much.

I am surprised at how often it is mentioned how I shouldn't have posted about this.

I have seen some stuff on MN that I've thought even more trivial. I thought it was okay to post about something that was bothering you?

I am glad I posted - it's really helped me and I've learned a thing or two. I've had more responses than I had expected as I know my issue is quite mundane.

He arranged the appointment to suit himself, not you. He didn't bother to consult you. It's selfish and inconsiderate. He should be apologising to you.

Wow - just wow! It's a flu shot ffs, not a weekend away!!! I really do feel sorry for some men, they can't do right for doing wrong.

Bankingswitch · 01/10/2020 04:12

@OneKeyAtATime

Did you actually post about this?!
There is currently a thread in AIBU about whether you prefer pasta, rice or potatoes Grin

My DH would have walked into the bathroom and asked me what appt time I wanted.

We are one of "those" couples.

Italiangreyhound · 01/10/2020 07:53

I am not sure why some people feel so entitled to tell the OP what she can or cannot post about. That is the ridiculous thing!

Marzipan12 · 01/10/2020 08:30

They offered 2 time slots, chances are if he hadoesn't got you to call them back by tne time you got through they would have both gone. Like gp appointments at the moment you take what you can get. I've booked my flu jab at a chemist, I finally got an appointment in 3 weeks time at a time I really didn't want but it's tne only slot available after ringing 3 different chemists. Sorry but at this point in time you take whatever is available.

Totally agree! It's just that he was offered a choice and despite knowing my preference for earlier appointments chose the later one 🤪

I'll just have to suck it up like I still use the purse he bought me. My criteria were not black and not zipped. Guess what my purse looks like?!🤪

I never complained about the purse though - still using it years later - it's just that all this health stuff I'm not so relaxed about.

OP I can't believe his much patience you have with posters. I hope tgis thread is helping you.

Bankingswitch · 01/10/2020 08:57

@WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW

Maybe you should leave him.

Leave him to find a woman who will appreciate that he at least tried to do something for you Blush

But no on a serious note, ring to re-arrange. I wouldn’t be annoyed he’s not a mind-reader and as much as you say “he knows I like early appointments” 10:30 is still early he probably considered the fact you might want to wake up, have breakfast (important for sugar levels before a vaccine if you’re a nervous person) and travel time to the surgery.

That would be a lovely scenario if we weren't both working.

I have had two-monthly injections for the past 10 years all booked for 8am.

Sometimes I feel like we've just met or maybe he vaguely thinks of me as some figment of his imagination Grin

Smile overall it's really helped me - some people may not get my point but I have taken on board I don't really need to worry so much about this from the health angle.

On the other hand, I probably should make a living will as never sure if DH listens and HEARS what I say...

I have more to worry about than you will ever know...sometimes a small thing can seem too much...

I am not changing the appointment and wasting NHS time.

I am fine with the appointment now thanks to you guys Grin

Sounds to me that he knew it was important, so got it done. Sorted!

DueNumberTwo · 01/10/2020 09:55

Op you're taking this thread really well. You agreed ages ago you were going to the appointment and that ywbu. People just keep commenting now to get a rise out of you.

Italiangreyhound · 01/10/2020 10:19

I so.much hate the phrase "get a grip!" If the thread and the OP's situation is of no intereste to you, why bother posting?

I think people post because they read the openimg post and read no further. They just want comment!!

Yeah, this thread is pretty much a done deal now - much like my appointment Grin

This!!! Calm down.
onedogatoddlerandababy · 01/10/2020 17:27

Count yourself lucky, I get a free one each year and am usually given it before the kids get their live one. Mine is currently scheduled for a fortnight after the kids get theirs. Lots of slots at present but only for over 65s.

lcl · 01/10/2020 17:32

Wow high maintenance??!! Book your own flu shot !! I did , my husband doesn’t even know when mine is!!

momtoboys · 01/10/2020 17:38

THAT BASTARD! Dump him. Do you have your finances in order?
