To be angry my husband booked my flu shot?

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 17:01

Been at my desk since 7am. I go to the toilet for 10 minutes this afternoon to find Dh has booked my flu shot for a time I didn't want

Phone rang, he picked up and it was surgery on behalf of NHS to book this year's flu shot for me.

He had the choice of 2 appointments 9am and 10.30am. He picked the second one. I always make medical appointments for first thing if I have a choice - he knows this!

If there was no choice in appointment I could accept that but there was!

Also annoyed because I am a high-risk patient (hence the flu shot) and now another 20 people will have been through the room I have to use before I even get there!!

He says it will be fine. He's so laidback all the time. He thought we could go for a walk afterwards if we went later... I am more interested in not catching COVID right now.

I am happy to hide out from COVID and flu but don't like having to go into situations like this.

Am I being unreasonable?

Not your first choice but better than missing the call or saying you will be back in a minute then them saying they will call back. At least you have an appointment.

Bankingswitch · 30/09/2020 19:35

They're only doing them for vulnerable people, why should you be first?

No reason and I don't expect that at all.

In fact, I wouldn't my dream of changing the appointment now anyway - the last thing I want to do is give them more work they don't need.

Book it yourself then !.

Mumtwoboys90 · 30/09/2020 19:35

Definitely yabu

Sidge · 30/09/2020 19:35

YABU but you know that by now 😁

I’m a nurse practitioner, giving hundreds of flu vaccines every year. This year we are even more careful than usual because of Covid. No sitting down in the surgery, no touching anything, everyone required to wear a mask and sanitise hands, temperature taken on arrival. You are in any out within a minute or two.

Also I’m at moderate risk because of my own medical situation and I have a previously shielded vulnerable daughter at home. Trust me, I don’t want any Covid in my flu clinics any more than you do... feel reassured that staff are doing everything they can to keep you safe, as well as themselves! A positive case in a surgery now could close it down for two weeks remember.

Not allowed to or I would have!

I am not lazy about admin. I do most of it anyway.

Currently getting my DH a new winter coat. The one he has is falling apart and under a lifetime guarantee. He won't do anything about it but I will arrange its return . He is pleased to be getting a new coat but he would never bother to do any of this. He's very laidback while I get things moving. It usually works for us...usually Grin

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me and reassure me. I really feel for NHS staff - this winter will be a living nightmare for you guys 🌺🌈

On the fence a bit with this. If DH had to take a call like that, he'd have yelled at me in the toilet asking me which appt I wanted. Failing that, I'd hope he'd pick the one I wanted. So for me, if he'd have picked the 9am one over the 10.30 I wouldn't have liked it. I like mine later on, but he knows this. Like I know he's happier to get his done early and out the way.

I don't think it's about the 1.5 hours. I think it's about wanting your partner to know you well enough to get it right. Kind of anyway. I think it's also more about DH being a teeny weeny bit dismissive of it being airborne so doesn't share OP's anxiety about WHY she wanted the earlier appt.

As I say, grand scheme and all, no biggie. I'd say if OP flipped and went mental at him (don't think she did), then an apology of course. Equally he could olive branch back and say she's within her rights to feel anxious about a virus that could kill her.

And it is airborne.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 30/09/2020 19:42

wish DH had picked better of two options or told them I wasn't available to take call.

ANd they might have called back that day/next day/next week/not at all
I'd have thought getting the appointment booked as early as possible was a priority. If they only had two slots that day it could have been a long wait.
Even longer if you want to be a prima donna and only accept a 9am appointment.

escourtie · 30/09/2020 19:46

@OverTheRainbow88

I would be grateful my OH booked it.

My sister is desperate to get one and can’t boom one at the GPS.

@OverTheRainbow88 Has your Sister tried Boots Pharmacy apparently they are doing NHS Flu Jabs for Free
Hatscats · 30/09/2020 19:49

Just be thankful you got an appointment. I’m 37 weeks pregnant and still waiting for mine, time is running out 😂

ThatDamnScientist · 30/09/2020 19:51

I have to get it every year because I am high-risk so I'd definitely get one - just wish DH had picked better of two options or told them I wasn't available to take call.

YABU and OTT and yes you should be grateful you have an appointment. My mum is high risk, 64 and due to a screw up at the surgery she now can't get her shot (they ran one drive thru clinic and failed to tell her they were running it - most people got a message to go, she didn't) and because she is 64 not 65 most private places won't do her jab as due to demand they are now doing only the over 65s. So be fucking grateful. You sound ridiculously hard work.

I am even more grateful reading all the stories on here. I genuinely had no idea that people who needed this were unable to get it.

I am so sorry your mother has been so badly let down by the system and I hope she stays safe 🌸🌺🌹💐

YABU, we are talking appointments 1.5 hours apart.

Daphnise · 30/09/2020 20:00

You sound difficult and whiny.

Don't say you didn't ask!

I apologised sincerely and we had a kiss and cuddle. He says he totally understands about my anxieties. You should see me worry about the cat's health too - I really need that grip!

And it is airborne.

That's a conversation we'll need to have another day Wink

YABU he didn't have any instructions and happened to answer the phone. I don't think he did anything wrong just change the appt. What a strange thing to cause such a drama over

I can't help thinking that this comes under the "aw bless a man did something" category.

I'd expect my husband to get off his arse & ask me if I was literally in the next room.

That's the effort/consideration I would afford him & I expect the same back.

If that makes me high maintenance/demanding then so be it!
