North Wales in Half Term??

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 10:01

Like many were desperate for a holiday. Eldest birthday was in lockdown, or wedding anniversary, most of the babies lives tbf, seems likely their Christmas birthday will be too.
Is it crazy to even contemplate N Wales in a months time? Also were in the Midlands not yet in lockdown area but it's a risk.
I have 1 more week to cancel without cost.
I'm aware this is sometimes income and life but I can't afford to waste £600 if we can't go.
Do I just accept it now and cancel?

Didn't North Wales go into local lockdown yesterday?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 10:07

What?? I just googled and countldn't find it.

Unfortunately OP anywhere in Wales is becoming off limits right now.

North Wales in Half Term??
Nonotthisagain · 30/09/2020 10:08

Lots of North Wales has gone into local lockdown as well now. There is definitely a feeling here that visitors to Wales should not be coming and I believe the guest minister is going to push for this to be stopped. I would definitely cancel if you can without cost.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 10:09

How did I miss that?? Bloody Conwy.

How long do you reckon they'll be locked down?

WeAreVeryAmused · 30/09/2020 10:10

All the local lockdowns have lasted more than a month. I think you need to cancel!

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 10:11

I just want to go to the sea. The babies have missed so much and I just wanted to dip their little toes in real sand 😭😭😭

I think it won't be long until we're not allowed into Wales from England again. I have family in South Wales who have said there are rumblings about it.

notacooldad · 30/09/2020 10:14

Could you go to the west coast of Scotland if you want beaches I instead?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 10:15

Thanks, I'm gonna email the lady now 😥

Yes we're in local lockdown from tomorrow. Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy and Wrexham.
We can't leave our areas or enter others without valid reasons such as work or essentials, No mixing of households.
It's quite hard as there's been so many more tourists lately since the ease of the first lockdown (great for business / bad for COVID)
I don't know if others are allowed in still and it's just locals that aren't supposed to leave their areas. I know you can travel through to get to Anglesey and the Gwynedd areas. Unsure if they will lockdown too next week?
I would cancel now as I know the First Minister is pushing to ban tourists.

On train with a kid on O2 and twins in a double buggy. N Wales is a few hours and all on a main train line. I don't think we'd manange the haul to Scotland but thank you

Most of Wales is in local lockdown and welsh rules are that people shouldn’t enter or leave county areas except for work, education Etc. A holiday would not be a valid reason, this is confirmed in welsh government guidelines

Your babies really won’t remember any of this, they won’t care if they dip their toes into the sand now or next summer.

In a months time your own area may be in local lockdown as well, or there may be tighter national restrictions. You’d be crazy to book it.

We kinda suspected this was always a risk, we booked v carefully to allow cancellation. Guess it's gotta happen.

Ah,I see, I was up there the other week and love the beaches.
I'm looking forward to going back to Wales for mountains biking and hiking but not yet sadly.

Yawningyawning · 30/09/2020 10:22

Well yes cancel with the lockdown and all

Wishforanishwishdiash · 30/09/2020 10:27

Gwynedd will go soon too. There are many cases in the uni. I wonder if they will just lock down Afron (north east Gwynedd uni/hosptial) and let Merionydd/Dwyfor (south and west Gwynedd, Porthamdog, Harlech, Llyn Peninsula) stay open. They did that will Llanelli.

There seems some remote possibility that Anglesey will not lockdown and that people from Anglesey will be allowed to drive to Pembrokeshire with a stop in Powys. It is all just too silly.

I'd love to make it to Scotland at some point but I've done main areas like Glasgow for festivals and it was a hike just there on one train 😂

Wales is in the middle of a lockdown.
Definitely not sensible to book a holiday for a months time!

Wishforanishwishdiash · 30/09/2020 10:31

It is all very silly. People from Liverpool can travel to Anglesey, but people from Conwy cannot.

Quaagars · 30/09/2020 10:33

That's what gets me - how can people inside Wales not travel around in Wales, but I could go and visit coming from in the UK?!
How is that a lockdown lol, makes no sense!
If you're going to lockdown and stop travel, makes sense to stop people from coming in.

It's been booked ages. When it looked like things night not be utterly shit for half term. I just have free cancellation for another 9 days

I live in North Wales, lockdown starts tomorrow evening as far as I am aware.
I would cancel tbh and perhaps rebook when things improve?
There is a lot of backlash locally around tourists being allowed to travel into Wales/through lockdown areas when locals can't.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 11:33

See I'm not even sure if she's local or just owns a home there, if she's local I imagine the balance between wanting to keep other people out and income in is awful.
Anyway I've emailed her, will give her chance to read it and then cancel.
System won't let me rebook later or next year
