North Wales in Half Term??

Like many were desperate for a holiday. Eldest birthday was in lockdown, or wedding anniversary, most of the babies lives tbf, seems likely their Christmas birthday will be too.
Is it crazy to even contemplate N Wales in a months time? Also were in the Midlands not yet in lockdown area but it's a risk.
I have 1 more week to cancel without cost.
I'm aware this is sometimes income and life but I can't afford to waste £600 if we can't go.
Do I just accept it now and cancel?

Surely, by locking down the whole of Wales, nobody will get any local custom. Is that better?

The 5 mile rule allows for local custom. Not sure what's difficult to understand about that?

Currently you have people travelling 30 miles to nearest supermarket in their county because they aren't permitted to use the one 2 miles down the road over county lines. This is why the previous lockdown made far more sense!

@BarbaraofSeville

Sadly you're about as far from the sea as you can get where you are.

Depending on where you are exactly in the Midlands, can you go somewhere else either for a day trip or overnight self catering on an English coast?

5 yo on o2 and twins in a buggy, don't drive. We're really limited on what's reasonable which I know it's my own fault lol but it still sucks. Usual go to is Shrewsbury but it's a fairweather town really and I expect most places will be booked out by now.

Well organise some day trips, just not easy to just pack a bag and go somewhere as we have to organise o2 delivery and collection

@Elphame

I'm in Conwy county and have just spent all morning sorting out my bookings.

Given Drakeford's behaviour to date I really don't expect to re-open much before Christmas - if that. Many hospitality businesses will now go under. We were relying on the autumn season to see us through the winter.

As the Welsh health minister admits the rise is being driven by socialising happening in people's homes, this will make no difference and the hospitality business has just been written off as collateral damage

If you had our booking, I'm sorry 😭

@SleepingStandingUp - aw thank you!

If we agreed a new May date with you this morning then you might be ;)

Leimarel · 30/09/2020 16:34

I'm gutted about the lockdown in North Wales, my DS, his wife and the grandchildren were coming over for a week's holiday next week. That's not happening now and we are all disappointed. But there will be other times. Covid can't last forever...

OP you have my sympathies. I hope you manage to get the children out for a few day trips over half term.

Zip world has just closed for two weeks, suspect others will follow.

@ClaudiaWankleman

I'm hoping to visit snowdonia (from england) at half term to help support my elderly parents.

Fortunately @ShinyMe I think you are still able to visit to provide care or help for family and friends who require it.

Phew, fingers crossed that stays. Ideally I'd go every weekend if I could, but it's just too far. My dad is disabled and usually goes into respite every few months, bit obviously that's cancelled, so my mum is finding it hard. She's not in crisis, but I really could do with giving her help for a week while he can't go to respite.

We have booked a caravan on the Llyn peninsula for October half term. Already paid the balance via private rental. I have no idea if we’ll get that money back if it goes into lockdown or how easy it’ll be to travel along the A55 to teach Llyn if the police will be patrolling Sad

Maireas · 30/09/2020 18:16

Stay at home over half term. Seriously. Things are not looking good.

Only the Fforest location which I believe is in Conwy. The Penrhyn quarry and cave sites are currently open.

I suspect my cleaner won't agree with you. She's just lost all her work in the run up to Christmas.

Same with the gardener

The tree surgeon I have cancelled has just lost a £3000 job as I can no longer afford it.

I've cancelled the order for a sign I was about to replace. I'm just going to have to pay for the design work done to date

I've cancelled the electrification of the summerhouse

The local artist whose work we showcase won't be getting any Christmas present orders from our guests this year

I'm about to cancel my waste collection contract and a few other expenses I can avoid. In fact the whole autumn revamp is now postponed indefinitely. I'd be mad to invest any more money in the Welsh economy at the moment.

This is all money lost to the local economy. We don't eat out every night in the local restaurants and tea shops every week like our guests do so all those businesses will take another hard hit after just re-opening after spending a fortune on covid policies.

A couple of big hotels in Llandudno were on the brink of reopening. Scores of staff will now not have jobs. Drakeford chose to ignore the pleas of our local tourist industry and has stamped all over us. Again.

I know the tourist industry in North Wales is not popular with the locals but it employs an awful lot of people in the wider community, jobs which you normally wouldn't think of as being linked to tourism. This will become painfully apparent this winter.

In the first lockdown they sent hundreds home from Tenby.
