I agree, OP. Goalkeepers should have to use only their feet.

Was on radio 2 that a lot of football clubs are going to go under due to covid and whether we should support them.

I'm not sure its your decision to say no to, but why single out football anyway? They've been affected as much as the rest of the leisure/tourism/hospitality industry

It's being discussed. Lower league clubs that are on their knees, have never had money in the bank, rely on turnstiles to provide all of their income.

It isn't just the players, it is hundreds of others who work in/with each club. Locally it would devastate a lot of businesses.

And then there is the community work each club does, special needs teams, use of facilities.

The real question is how much the Premier League will give.

Some of the lower league and non league teams were struggling anyway. They don’t have the same clout as a premier league team and still have salaries to pay, without any TV income.

I also think of the pleasure and joy football gives to a lot of people. Are we going to let all that collapse?

P.S. I am not remotely interested in football. But I know it gives meaning to lots of people

Systems need to be put in place to help struggling things like sports clubs.

Where possible (in sports with lots of money like football) then at least some of the money should come from distribution within. But lots of sports don’t have that ability so we do need something.

Without the grassroots clubs it becomes so much harder for many children to access sport and activity

If you're meaning No to the government providing support to struggling football league clubs then YABVU. The vast majority of football clubs aren't premier league clubs with multimillion dollar players. They rely on ticket sales for a large chunk of their income. They have backroom staff, groundskeepers etc again on modest salaries with families to support.

It's very ignorant to assume think of football clubs in terms of overpaid players as for the majority of them that's so far from the truth.

They are talking about lower league clubs. It all depends on if you believe the arts/entertainment industry needs a helping hand. If it does then football clubs should be included in that.
