You could start a list...

@LastGoldenDaysOfSummer

I slag off all of those earning six figures a week who aren't giving money to support poorer players and clubs.

They should be ashamed.

How do you know which ones are and which aren't?

Do you have access to their bank accounts or are you presuming that nobody ever gives to charity without broadcasting it to the world?

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 29/09/2020 18:24

How do you know which ones are and which aren't?

If they were I would expect them to publicise the charities like the actors are. No point in doing it and not telling anyone or asking for support from fellow players,

Do you have access to their bank accounts or are you presuming that nobody ever gives to charity without broadcasting it to the world?
Remarkably stupid question. I'm speaking specifically about those rich buggers involved in the game who should be supporting the game. The government can't bail them out. They have to support each other. Just like the actors are doing in the links I provided.

If you know that footballers have arranged a charity to support the poorer clubs then please provide a link.

Plenty of people give time or money to good causes without feeling the need to sing it off the rooftops.

nosswith · 29/09/2020 18:45

Redistribution of money within the sport first. This can be done with the tv money.

I would have some conditions to make sure it was not misused. Mike Ashley is not the worst football club owner. Someone pointed out that the so-called 'fit and proper person's test' for football club ownership would have been passed by Robert Mugabe when he was alive.

Wow! I'm sorry for whatever has happened to you in your life to make you such a rude and cynical person. I hope you get some help for that.

Of course I'm cynical about the rich footballers doing nothing to support the poorer ones. I notice no one has provided a link to prove me wrong. As for rude - if people ask daft questions then they should expect to be challenged.

Football clubs are a vital part of their community, most of them anyway. It's not just 11 men kicking a ball around. It's all the jobs that are linked to it, it's the tax revenues, it's all the kids teams, the work in the community they do.

annabel85 · 30/09/2020 12:23

I also think of the pleasure and joy football gives to a lot of people. Are we going to let all that collapse?

Looks like. God knows what will be left in the wreckage when this is all over. Very few football clubs will survive this, hospitality will be decimated, other sports just as much, retail dying on its knees.

loobyloo1234 · 30/09/2020 12:35

Plenty of players in the PL support charities though - why would they have supported lower league clubs up until now when without Covid, this dire situation would not have happened?

Arsenal players took a pay cut to cover the wages of the rest of the staff within the club. Im sure other players and clubs have done the same

I think the Government should step up on this one - lower league teams will not survive without ticket revenue from fans. And that is not likely to change any time soon. As its the Governments call to stop fans going (in other countries hit by Covid, inc Germany and France they are letting reduced amount of fans in for example) then they should be doing more to help the employees, players and staff, at these small clubs survive through this

@LastGoldenDaysOfSummer it was a sarcastic comment, obviously I dont actually think you've got access to their bank accounts. If you thought it was a genuine question then I'm clearly not the stupid one... thanks for the 2nd insult though- it makes you look really big and clever. (Sarcasm again, since you're incapable of spotting it)

Still waiting for you to provide proof that no footballers have done anything to support clubs, or are you so enamoured by your own opinion that you're classing that as 'evidence'.

BrazenlyDefying · 30/09/2020 12:57

It;s a business just like any other business.

annabel85 · 30/09/2020 13:08

People moaning about highly paid footballers, what about all the money they pay in taxes?

And why aren't the well paid actors asked to prop up the theatre industry?

AIBU is known for blunt speaking. If you don't feel comfortable with that then perhaps don't post here. Having a go at me is water off a duck's back. It AIBU and I expect it.

I'm not sure how I can be expected to prove a negative. It's fairly well known to be nigh on impossible. Totally illogical.

If rich teams are supporting the lower paid teams I'm pretty sure we'd have heard about it. The actors put their charities out there in an appeal for help.

I'm pretty sure someone would have posted a link if they actually were supporting the lower paid players. But, lo, nobody has.
