So it's guinea pig not Guinea pig?

harpsicorpsecarrier · 10/10/2007 16:07

actually I think it might be Guinea pig.
greeny does it annoy you when I put random capitals in my name? it really annoys hunker and you are similar rabid pedants.

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 16:24

Inverted commas when written or typed can be annoying - but it is vomit-inducing in the extreme when people demonstrate inverted commas by holding up both hands and wiggling the first two fingers on both hands, saying: I am "in love" or whatever. Heave.

Greensleeves · 10/10/2007 16:35

yes HC, it makes me squint and purse my lips, every time!

Guinea pig was perhaps a bad choice... any apologists for Lunch Box, or Chicken Breasts? No?

Greensleeves · 10/10/2007 16:36

When people do that finger-wiggling quotes thing I always want to kick them really hard in the crotch, while their hands are out of the way

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 17:05

Greensleeves - do you find the "kicking in the Crotch" does "The Trick"?

middlepiddle · 10/10/2007 17:06

Well - stand still -

BE-DOOF!!

Any different?

Greensleeves · 10/10/2007 17:06

Oi, piddle!! I can do my own crotch-kicking, thank you very much!

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 17:13

The mn grammar pedantry does sometimes get on my nerves. Sometimes I feed my baby and type posts with one hand. I can often see the odd mistake but post anyway as the mistake is not material. It is a shame if the flow of thought is destroyed for fear of being hauled across the coals by the mn grammar police. I think it probably prevents some people posting which is a shame. Sometimes the spelling of a post is not material to the value of the information contained in the post.

lemonaid · 10/10/2007 17:19

IME grammar pedantry police only tend to patrol the pedantry threads -- and if you are going to post on a pedantry thread you need to be extra careful to be above reproach, I think.

hunkermunker · 10/10/2007 17:28

"rabid pedant", harpsi?!

Me?

Shurely shome mishtake?!

Yes It prevents Me from Posting sometimes as i spend ages Doing a spell and grammar cheQue that the thread has Dyed bye the Time I get around 2 posting.

Sorry But U R Being unreasonable!!!

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 17:33

lemonaid - agreed. If it was a pedantry thread then the spelling and grammar would be material to the thread. If you want a quick cure for your baby's sickness and dia-reeeaahhh, it should not matter .

bossybritches · 10/10/2007 17:34

Caroline I'm sure the other posters wouldn't be referring to you or any other posters on here but RL irritations.

I suffer from digital dyslexia & often get my words muddled up & forget capitals & stuff. Annoys me only cos I don't see it when I preview & then blow me it's there when I post!

Greensleeves · 10/10/2007 17:34

No, it's a pile of hogwash

If you make a mistake, bloody delete it and type it again, you lazy moo.

bossybritches · 10/10/2007 17:35

But I don't always SEE it that's the point Greeny!!

bossybritches · 10/10/2007 17:36

.....and sometimes I jsut can't be aresd

Greensleeves · 10/10/2007 17:36

oh, unless you've got a baby exploding at both ends in your lap, of course. Which I'm sure all the txtspkers and hunnies and "what can I do with a Fish Finger and three Rusty Nails" brigade have, permanently

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 17:40

I recommended mn to a friend who is a writer. She was put off (or "Put Off") and said that she was confused about what it was for: was it to exhange ideas or was it to show off about how well you can type or write.

ScottishMummy · 10/10/2007 17:42

i WanT A raBBit..i might even "SCREAM" for a BUNNY

Caroline1852 · 10/10/2007 17:43

Previewing your messages is a bit like constantly looking in the mirror checking your hair is OK. Isn't it just a bit up your own arse?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/10/2007 18:08

Does that mean you MUST use capitals at the start of a sentence, hmm, greeny?

Or just not use them?

I'd just like to know if your pedantry is consistent, or it really is Just Other Things People Do That You Dont that irks you

FrannyandZooey · 10/10/2007 18:13

Some German posters do it

I like it when that happens

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/10/2007 18:14

To be completely honest, when I am typing something, I am not writing an essay, or studying English language.

I am having a C O N V E R S A T I O N.

Now, the internet being as it is, whereby you can't always detect the tone of a post, means that I punctuate it as appropriate for ALL to understand a bit better how I am actually saying it.

Which is why I use quotation marks, capitals, lots of ..... and !!!!!!

It expresses more clearly how I actually talk.

Since this is not a classroom it is a talkboard you cant stick your inconsistent pedantry up your Greensleeved Back Passage
