To think there might be something dodgy going on?

A family living opposite us sold their house almost a year ago, the new neighbours have still not moved in.
They mentioned back before Xmas they would be hoping to move after Xmas, then they blamed Covid for not being able to get a removal company (despite other families having moved recently both on our street and surrounding).

They come and go randomly, turn up for half hour then leave again then don’t come back for a day or two. It’s a quiet dead end road so really obvious when cars come and go.

All the curtains and blinds the old neighbours left are still up and have remained shut. The windows also never opened even during the heat wave etc - we were out in the garden most the day with DC’s so it was very obvious they were the only house with everything shut.
Something tells me something odd is going on but maybe I’m over thinking 🤷‍♀️

@mam0918

the funniest thing about this is all the people saying 'It SoUnDs LyK a CaNnAbIs FaRm' obviously know absoloutly nothing about cannibis farms

as some who lived in a poor area with an exorbertant amount of cannibis farms i'll tell you for a fact people live in them lol do you honestly think people leave thousands of pounds of highly sort after product sat around for days/weeks in empty houses?

what wonderful imaginations some people on here have - drug dens, sex rings, child slaves, cannibals lol all because someone didnt immediately move house during a pandemic, ever heard the saying about horseys and zebras

Yeah if you're at the scale of buying houses to leave unattended full of the stuff, industrial unit surely?

@cockroachcrumble12 nope not got stuck pressed against a window. Clearly you have nothing better to do than make pointless comments. I just got bored of replying to people that aren’t capable of just disagreeing or saying that they think I am being unreasonable without trying to get nasty about it.
@Elsewyre as above, gets a bit boring! I do have a job actually. Funny though because to actually get an idea of what’s already been spoken about you must have just sat and read 12 pages of a thread that your clearly to busy working to have time to do 🙄.

OK haven't read the full thread but OP's comments. Very surprised at some of the posts, about 'getting a job' or 'nosy neighbour. ' I used to live in a quiet cul de sac, 1 of the first houses, as a result, I did notice the traffic and the comings and goings. Not being nosy, just standing at my sink or putting stuff away in the kitchen.
It does sound slightly dodgy. How many people do you know who can just buy a house and leave it vacant apart from popping round every so often?
The excuse they are using is there are no removal businesses that are available - for 10 months? That's just BS.
Do you know anyone in the police or a retired police officer to have a chat about it?
The only reason I am saying is that this happened to a friend of mine. Nice quiet street, a few people coming and going, very pleasant people but didn't really live there. Turned out it was a cannabis farm, they caught them by infrared camera - the house was giving off a lot of heat.
It's probably not that, but it does happen

Kateguide · 05/10/2020 12:01

@mam0918 agree about cannabis farms, if it is in a poor /high crime area, someone usually needs to be around to 'guard' the product. If it is a nicer area, and only very few people know about it, no need to guard it

Your title should read ‘Someone’s bought a house In my road and I don’t know what they’re doing with it, help!’

MYOB, and get a hobby.

@Kateguide I agree completely. Unless you live in such a quiet street, I don’t think people realise quite how obvious peoples comings and goings are without actually having the need to be nosey or have your face pressed up against the window like people have suggested. I’m so shocked some people are apparently completely oblivious to what goes on around their own home. I have said it in other replies too but - I would rather that my neighbours noticed if there were people at our property when there isn’t usually or just something that seemed unusual and no way would I accuse them of sitting at their window being nosey with nothing better to do. I’d be grateful they noticed!
I agree there may be a completely valid reason for it but like you said, it is very unusual for people to be able to afford to buy a house and just leave it unoccupied for so long. And the excuse they gave us about not being able to get a removal van.. for 10 months?? I mean they must realise other people have moved in/out on the street and it’s obvious that’s not the reason. I’m not saying they need to tell us anything, it’s their life and they have no need to let us know what’s going on but they were the ones to approached us to tell us this? Why would they go out their way to tell us a reason at all, let alone one that clearly isn’t true? Seems odd they would do that?

@mam0918 it wouldn’t be the first in our area if it did turn out to be this! There have been others not too long ago. But again it could also be nothing!
