To think there might be something dodgy going on?

A family living opposite us sold their house almost a year ago, the new neighbours have still not moved in.
They mentioned back before Xmas they would be hoping to move after Xmas, then they blamed Covid for not being able to get a removal company (despite other families having moved recently both on our street and surrounding).

They come and go randomly, turn up for half hour then leave again then don’t come back for a day or two. It’s a quiet dead end road so really obvious when cars come and go.

All the curtains and blinds the old neighbours left are still up and have remained shut. The windows also never opened even during the heat wave etc - we were out in the garden most the day with DC’s so it was very obvious they were the only house with everything shut.
Something tells me something odd is going on but maybe I’m over thinking 🤷‍♀️

Ooh now there's a theory to run with

@Igotthemheavyboobs

Oh sorry presses post too soon.

Yanbu though, I wouldn't be able to help myself from trying to find out what's going on. I am a proper curtain twitcher and always have been.

I was about 8 when I perfected the art of sitting in a dark room. Watching my neighbours row and not being seen Grin

This made me laugh😂

I thought ''Is her name Anne {the resident Nosy Parker who could tell you if someone as farted in the street}

I Did notice Anne go into a next door neighbour's house supposedly to feed a tortoise her dandelions and fruit, and she was in the actual house for an hour.

My neighs came back from hols and mentioned stuff in their house had been moved slightly....like in drawers

Anne!

I looked after their Tortoise after that, a quick leap over the wall and no snsoopage needed.

@Darkestseasonofall

Cannabis farm is my guess. I've one next to me in a 4 bed detached house, it's a bit posh where we live too. I've not felt the need to tell on them, they are perfect neighbours and aren't doing me any harm. The rest of the street seem oblivious, there's a few pokcie living close by as well
A training course I did years ago with Prof Nutt, the Police, drug users actually said if a person is suspected of Cannabis dealing alone, they were ''left to get on with it''

They said if that dealer was arrested, m another would take their place almost immediately who may be selling much worse things {Heroin, Crack } and they said 'we know what goes on'..but sometimes leaving things as they are is better than arresting them.

That was a few years back, maybe police have changed their minds , maybe different regions have different attitudes.

I was surprised.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/09/2020 04:54

@waitrosetrollydolly

Maybe they are waiting for builders to do it up for them before they move in?
It's this. The are waiting to get those curtains and blinds changed. Hmm

or they are checking in periodically to make sure things are ok (no damp, infestations, break ins) - we had to leave home due to a structural issue as a child, my mam went back once a week for a year to collect post and check on the place... really not unusual, you would be bitching if rats got in or something and no one was checking and it went to ruin

also I live in my house, Im pretty much a recluse because I have light sensative migranes and never open the blinds due to that... guess my neighbors should dob me in for being 'wierdo', like obviously I must be dodgy if I dont do exactly as they do

like who would even be opening blinds/windows if they arent there? they arent going to leave them open that would invalidate insurance if they have it + cause problems (break ins, weather issues, insects getting in, sun bleaching or worse possible heat spots that could cause a fire)

mam0918 · 29/09/2020 13:22

@Igotthemheavyboobs

I kept all my windows and doors shut in the heatwave. It was cooler inside the house, you shouldn't let the heat in by opening the windows to cool it down.
this too... since I never open my blind my house is always a cool temprature even on the hottest days, people seem amazed by it but if the sun isnt getting in nothing is heating the room up to unbarable tempratures lol
Opalwindfury · 29/09/2020 13:49

I’m surprised you’ve got this much time on your hands! We recently got ourselves a house and haven’t moved in for a good while yet as we are trying to fix things up before we do the “final” move. We also go there a couple times a week and stay no less than an hour to 30 mins. I wonder if our neighbours are suspicious 😂

oakleaffy · 29/09/2020 16:11

@mam0918
In the heatwave, my old tutor popped by for a walk and said ''Why have you got all your windows open?''

He said to close them, and curtains too... I did as he suggested and it was markedly cooler indoors.
You'd open the front door to be met with cooler air.. much better.

BUT I did open them at night, just to get a through draught.
Re migraines... I sympathise. That dreaded speck of dazzling brilliance that heralds a true migraine.. bleurgh.

Leaannb · 29/09/2020 16:20
@FatherTedsBankAccount really!!!! Let’s hope one day you don’t need help from your neighbours if you get broken into or car gets stolen. You couldn’t ask if anyone had seen or heard anything could you because you can’t stand neighbours like them who happen to observe things outside their house can you? Nothing to do with being nosey. It’s called looking outside which I’m totally entitled to do. Noticing a car parked right on the pavement outside my kitchen window, is that nosey erm no it’s a bit hard not to see that really isn’t it. If they were so private why have they on two separate occasions started the discussion about their housing situation without being asked?
Neighbors are absolutely useless when it comes tonthat. Eye witness reports are notoriously unreliable. Thats why people use security cams and systems. You can't lie or not remember when it comes to a camera...No I don't like nosy neighbors. There is no need to be nosy monitoring when people are coming and going from their homes is absurd. Knowing of they have changed the blinds or curtains is absurd. There was nothing to be nosy about. They haven't moved in yet and are looking after their property. You don't need to know anything else.

FoodologistGirl · 29/09/2020 17:26

Definitely cannabis factory. We had one across the road from us a few years back and never knew until a police dawn raid Shock

mummybean84 · 29/09/2020 17:41

Maybe they are popping in to have sex and don’t want all the neighbours watching so they keep the curtains shut 😂

Someonetakemebackto91 · 29/09/2020 17:47

You could be describing us !!!

We got our house and didn’t move in for
22 months because my DD was severely ill in hospital and we had for the house to move her in to once she was well enough to go home from hospital. Pooped by like once a month to check everything was ok.

Oct18mummy · 29/09/2020 17:47

Are they planning on doing a renovation? Maybe house is in a state they are not happy to move in. Maybe they are meeting with an architect or doing diy/painting don’t see why dodgy. People don’t always move in straight away

rennieroo · 29/09/2020 17:53

When my FIL died leaving his house empty we went back on a weekly basis to check on it but nothing more until I convinced DH we needed to do something with it and we rented it out 10 months later. Hope no one thought we were doing anything dodgy!!

Plentyofshit · 29/09/2020 17:57

I’m with you @1Pinkfluffyelephant - I’m very (quietly) interested in my neighbours.

Could they be

 1. planning to do up the house, and waiting to get planning permission etc
 2. have it as a second home/planning to rent it out 3)have health problems/family issues that prevent them moving in straight away...
Margerine78 · 29/09/2020 18:04

Could it be something as simple as they're having work done to the house and come to measure up now and again? Perhaps to get a kitchen/bathroom fitted? Curtains kept shut so as not to alert people house is empty in case kids, squatters etc get in? Perhaps they don't have to move out of their old place yet so taking their time?

Sydney88 · 29/09/2020 18:05

@1Pinkfluffyelephant - definitely keep an eye out it could be a cannabis farm. In my old neighbourhood, we had similar situation with a neighbour and it was such a factory - which we all found out once the house caught on fire (fire is a real risk). Notice if the couple start coming less often and you see men instead.

Progia321 · 29/09/2020 18:05

Mind your own business 😐

Who cares ... why are you conspiring possible scenarios ?

MadameBoulaye · 29/09/2020 18:06

You need to investigate when it’s dark ... stick your nose through the letterbox and see if there’s a pong, and go in their back garden and see if there’s a UV glow coming from a window or the roof tiles... Grin

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 29/09/2020 18:12

I'm wondering how you expect them to open the windows or blinds in the middle of a heatwave, when they aren't actually there?

Zyzxyz · 29/09/2020 18:12

Could be a drug house or transporting illegals. Better have police quietly, discreetly check it out.

roxanne119 · 29/09/2020 18:13

Wait til it snows if theirs melts on their roof before everyone else’s definitely a cannabis farm . We had one up our road the air was pungent !
