Might be all the stress in the world at the moment but it’s made me think about what I’d give for a couple of doves and the clammy hands that come with them. Don’t think my heart could take it now Sad

I've just bought some old rave flyers, perception, rain dance and telepathy after reading this.

My short term memory is fucked, I guess from all the pills but my long term memory is excellent.

I wouldn't do it now, but if you were there and you did it, you just

@Mikeymoo12

a young boy has just died in the area i live in from taking illicit substances (He was under 18). They are illegal for a reason. Perhaps one of the most disgusting posts I have read on here and fully prepared to be told I'm boring etc And really don't care 🙄
I know of 2 deaths in the past few years of teens from alcohol poisoning, and many hospital admissions. Yet oddly, this is not illegal. Can you elaborate on 'they are illegal for a reason' please, after reading alcohol stats?

I don't think you are boring for being upset about a young boy dying. I do think that you may be under the impression drugs such as E are a lot more dangerous than they actually are..especially when compared to 'legal' drugs.

lovemelongtime · 29/09/2020 04:07

And the sex that went with it!

oakleaffy · 29/09/2020 04:31

Re drugs deaths..
Went on a training course with drug experts from Professor Nutt, {Psychopharmacology} to users themselves, and what was so obvious,

Alcohol and Tobacco are by far the biggest killers in the UK.

We are talking of E here, specifically and it is one of the least physically damaging drugs IF it IS MDMA

Pill testing is widely done in Holland, and tells people if their pill is MDMA or something toxic like PMA.

Don't drink too much water.

ffs I need to start previewing messages.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/09/2020 04:57

I don't miss E at all because I was only ever interested in acid and mushrooms, but I especially DO NOT miss the number of gurning, sweating people desperate to try to hug me, and the constant Scabies outbreaks that went hand-in-hand with it.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 29/09/2020 06:30

Constant scabies outbreaks? Blimey! What clubs were you going to xDownwiththissort ofthing? Because I went to some proper dives sometimes but never heard of that happening, not even once! Grin

Tadpolesandfroglets · 29/09/2020 07:42

@XDownwiththissortofthingX they sound some realnastyshitty clubs you frequented.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 29/09/2020 07:48

I hear you OP.

I miss the late 80's and 90's too.

Scabies outbreaks, OMG where were you going, never heard of that happening either.

PatricksRum · 29/09/2020 07:51

@Quaagars

See, I'm in my 40s and didn't have a fricking clue what you were blithering on about until reading further in and seeing must be referring to the drug Never been interested, still not just nope lol Booze on the other hand late teens yep plenty of that and still now Drugs though? Hard nope
Me too, Quaagars. The thought of drugs makes me 🤢
OldEvilOwl · 29/09/2020 08:03

Used to be an all nighter most weekends. Now I work in a pub and can't wait till 10pm so I can cash up and go home to bed (to sleep) Grin

TheGlitterFairy · 29/09/2020 08:04

Late 90s/ early 00s dancing scene and partying - loved it then and still love the music and a party night now too (early 40s). Gin fuelled these days mind and more kitchen dancing with Spotify but hey! PP mentioned Baa Bar / Mellow mellow and of course Cream - all fantastic!
Ah the freedom of youth!!

FlyingByTheSeatof · 29/09/2020 08:06

Lets just hold on to the fact that those of use who had the full joyous experience of that scene were really lucky to have had it. It was amazing on so many levels.

Those that didn't experience it properly will never understand what it was like so there's no point putting it down just because you weren't a part of it.

KenDodd · 29/09/2020 08:18

I am very anti drug , can’t believe the number of you who think it’s acceptable

I don't blame you for being anti drugs, even E. For me this is because of the illegality around E though, in both production and distribution. You really don't know what you're taking. For this reason, I'll be telling my own children to steer clear (for all the good it will do, in my day we were bombarded with anti drug messaging). However, in terms of harm caused, I would bet alcohol is far more damaging than (properly produced) ecstasy. A friend of mine was an A&E doctor through the 90s, every weekend casualty was full of alcohol related problems, both the effects of drinking alcohol and violence that so often resulted from it. In all that time he had one patient with ecstasy related problems and very, very few with other drugs.

MakeOfThatWhatYouWill · 29/09/2020 08:25

Can't help thinking there is a wee bit of naivety on this thread. A lot of "it did no harm" etc. Might not have done you any harm, but suspect you were lucky, and many weren't.

KenDodd · 29/09/2020 08:26

Yes. I'm so glad we were young in the 90s.

I was talking to a university professor friend about a year ago. He said that young people know have the lowest use of drugs and alcohol than any previous generation. Poor mental health is a massive problem though. He said that although illegal drug use is down taking of prescription drugs has rocketed. He seemed to think there might be a connection, especially in the reduction in ecstacy use. He also said he thought social media was a massive factor and that young people aren't as free to enjoy themselves as we were because everything they do is filmed and likely to be on the internet the next day.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 29/09/2020 08:30

Part of me regrets never trying E when I was younger and a bit reckless but it just wasn't part of my circle. Much as I loved, and still love, 90s music I never got into dancing (felt weird to me) and didn't do the rave/clubbing scene. My "drug" was the excitement of shagging new fit young men, and I don't even get sex any more Sad I wouldn't 100% rule out trying E though but I'm probably too scared of the negatives to do it, so I'll most likely go to my grave never experiencing it.

KenDodd · 29/09/2020 08:33

Oh and this professor friend of mine (biological sciences) although the same age as me was never on the rave scene or a drug taker, or big drinker for that matter. His subject although biological isn't one that would give him any insight into the effects of drug taking, his opinions are just as an observer of young people not as a researcher.

KenDodd · 29/09/2020 08:38

It's a bit different when you're old and have responsibilities though isn't it. I can't imagine taking it know (maybe when my children grow up though Grin ) When they were little I wouldn't even have a glass of wine in case I had to drive them to hospital! They were all perfectly healthy it's just... I don't know... they might have an accident! I was never a drinker though so it wasn't a great hardship.

KenDodd · 29/09/2020 08:40

With regard health consequences of E, well we really don't know the long term effects. Maybe will will be more susceptible to dementia or something when we're older. Maybe we'll be less susceptible though, who knows!

Ylfa · 29/09/2020 08:51

I’ve taken mdma with all three of my adult children (30, 28 and 21) - recreationally and not often but it was much more therapeutic than all the family therapy we’ve ever had. See also: truffles and shrooms and weed. Lockdown changed us all for the better in this regard and communication has never been clearer or stronger. Wish I’d thought of it before! We were all experienced users though.

Almost everyone drinks, and almost nobody took E. So that's not surprising. And most of those who took E couldn't drive yet.
