To think why this is one of the reasons we have an obesity problem.

Friend on facebook has put about 2 stone on this past year. She posted a selfie the other day with a statement saying how she's finally learning to love herself, she may not be perfect but it's her body and she loves it!!! She's on the verge of being obese and suffers with chronic backache. Of course she had comments saying 'looking good hun' 'you beauty!' Etc.

I've noticed quite a lot of younger ones doing this 'be fat and proud' crap.

Am I wrong to think that this along with many other things is why we have an obesity problem.

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Let me summarise this thread to see how horrible harpies we have here.

Insults towards obese from people saying that maybe we shouldn't do the "fat is beautiful":
.

Insults about obese/overweight from people "standing up" for obese/overweight:
Fat cow
A lot of "shameful" and immoral and hate mentioned
Fatties

Insults towards not obese/overweight from people "standing up" for obese/overweight:
Smug twat
Goady
Jealous
Insecure
Vile
"Go for a run, hun"
Fuck off
Inner ugly

And that's just about third of a thread only. Now who has issues, eh...

That's a pretty good summary.

Only, you forgot "judgy cuntmuffin of the highest order", " off you fuck to hoik your super slim pants up to your super skinny single chin", and "slim wankers" (in capitals).

Otherwise, pretty spot on. 👍🏻

Well these threads always go well don't they

FrickinA · 20/02/2021 20:04

Go post your opinion on the FB post of your ‘friend’. Perhaps you’ll help her lose weight. How dare she think she should be proud of herself when’s she such a porker.

Sometimeswinning · 20/02/2021 20:27

I fight with my weight. I accept mine is through bad diet. I'm now in the right mindset for a good diet. Im not weighing myself but feeling good. My skins good. My energy for my children and job are up. Old clothes fit. That's what's important.

Biscoffontoast · 20/02/2021 20:32

What a nasty piece of work you are - some ‘friend’! She has gained weight - so what? Is it hurting you personally? We all know gaining excess weight isn’t healthy but there are many reasons for it, quite a few psychological/emotional... You don’t know what is going on in her life behind the scenes. Why does it bother you so much to see her trying to boost her self-esteem? Get a grip and focus on your own life.

YANBU

Although I'm sure many others will disagree with you

I put on weight during the lockdown last year, as did many others & for me once I realised my body mass index (BMI) had just tipped into the overweight category I was appalled with myself

Now back in to running, trying to eat more healthily etc

It's a really personal thing- for me I could've have just accepted my newly gained weight, knew why it had happened & was determined to get back somewhere near to where I was before...a way to go but it's in the right direction!

Grinthis post is from September 2020!Shock

Sometimeswinning · 20/02/2021 23:15

So????? Is it not relevant??

GoLightlyontheEarth · 20/02/2021 23:19

Why do you care so much? Mind your own business.

Norwaydidnthappen · 20/02/2021 23:21

I don’t think the obesity crisis is caused by some women on Facebook insisting they’re happy being fat, no. Think it’s caused by a whole range of things, primarily how easy and cheap it is to eat shit and also how many people drive now compared to the past.

Dalamalama · 21/02/2021 10:42

@Chunkymenrock

I really hate your attitude OP. It's so fucking simple in your smug little world isn't it. I don't believe that you used to be overweight and lost it just like that. Please stop starting horrible, horrible threads like this.
Where did I say I lost it just like that? I weighed 18 stone at my heaviest then I lost weight, put it back on, lost, gained and on it went. Now 12 stone which is still too heavy but I like cake.

If noone started threads that others disagreed with there would be no mumsnet.

If there was a seriously underweight woman posting a picture saying she’d tried to put weight on but was struggling but had given up as she was just going to learn to love herself, how many people I wonder would be supportive of comments telling her she looked great?

Belladonna12 · 21/02/2021 11:00

I've always been thin and I agree with your friend. It's good that someone feels happy and confident whether or not they are overweight. Why shouldn't they?

Sapho47 · 21/02/2021 11:04

Wasn't the positive societal view of smoking a key part in it becoming widespread.

And the recent negative social view the key to its decline.

Health arguments don't seem to work as well as making it expensive or socially looked down upon

Probably not many.
