We have put ours in a couple of times overs the last 2 days, only to 17.5 though and only because DH was complaining he was freezing.

DH and I will never agree though, I want the windows permanently open and him to out a fleece on (as that’s free) and I need the air, he puts a blanket over his side of the bed on top of his duvet 🤷‍♀️😂

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 27/09/2020 07:00

i did last night, after dd complained

Angelina82 · 27/09/2020 07:09

I have storage heaters and they’re too hot now. But can’t turn off! Have windows open now. 🤦‍♀️

Haha I can remember having storage heaters many years ago. Fucking nightmare!

Had my windows open while doing the housework yesterday morning but once I sat down the windows were closed and heating went on. Have it around 20C when we’re home but turn it down to 15C at night and when we’re out once it is cold, that way house is kept reasonably warm and doesn’t have to be heated from freezing when we get home. I don’t like it hot over night.

FippertyGibbett · 27/09/2020 07:10

18 if DH puts it on. 17 for me.

Angelina82 · 27/09/2020 07:11

Are you kidding? It was wall to wall warm sunshine here yesterday ( Cornwall). I got mildly sunburnt!

Show off! Wink

In the East it’s been windy and rainy for last few days and was 8C yesterday when I looked.

Frownette · 27/09/2020 07:13

Not yet

Oysterbabe · 27/09/2020 07:18

Ours just comes on if it drops below 20.
We spent yesterday at the inlaws and theirs is off. I'm not the type to be melodramatic but I nearly froze to death. To death.

movingonup20 · 27/09/2020 07:19

Set at 19 so it kicks in by itself. Dp doesn't turn it off (he pays the bill so who am I to complain Grin)

Sexnotgender · 27/09/2020 07:22

It’s 2 degrees outside and I live in a single glazed Victorian house, what do you think 😂

We recently had hive installed so enjoying playing with the different settings.

Yorkshiremummyof1 · 27/09/2020 07:27

18, any higher and I sweat in places I didn’t know I could sweat

Mumtumwobble · 27/09/2020 07:28

Yes we have, but not during the middle of the day. We’ve had it on in the evenings and early morning. Thermostat is set to 18 so it only comes on if temperature is lower than that. I do click it up to 20 though if it’s chilly.

BestOption · 27/09/2020 07:29

Yep. But only in the evenings as the days have been lovely & I've had the windows & doors open. I could have put on Warner socks & jumper, but I wanted the house to feel cosy. I had enough winters here before the central heating was put in, not to feel the need to challenge myself to see how long I can go without putting it on!

What temperature others have theirs on is completely irrelevant as it depends on the layout of the house & where the thermostat is etc. I moved the thermostat out of the lounge (it's free standing) and put it in the bedroom as I find it keeps the house a more constant temperature. When it's in the lounge it's up & down.

It's off overnight & windows are open. I get headaches otherwise.

BestOption · 27/09/2020 07:36

When winter kicks in then I set it on a timer & it rarely needs adjusting, but it's off in the summer because then it can't pick up that there's a cool breeze & thus it needs to turn itself on. And this time of year I like to have doors/windows open during the day when I'm busy & I don't want the heating coming on

So the 'mine is set to x and it's 'on' all the time. I don't see why everyone doesn't do what I do' smugness is 🙄.

catsareme14 · 27/09/2020 07:37

Not until October 1st ( I'm mean !)

speakout · 27/09/2020 07:40

I am looking out of my bedroom window, everything outside is covered by a thick layer of frost.

cliffdiver · 27/09/2020 07:42

SE England on the coast, haven't needed heating on yet.

It's been t-shirt weather until 3 days ago.

CatbearAmo · 27/09/2020 07:49

We have a really ancient heating system that makes turning the heating on/off in each room a real pain in the arse. And they take ages to heat up.
So when we turn on the heating it stays on until early spring.
Trying to stretch it out until November but dh is already moaning he's cold.

Angelina82 · 27/09/2020 07:52

Noo you don’t sound the least bit melodramatic @Oysterbabe. Not at all.......🤥😂

Not yet as we are struggling for money as it is. Neither of us had work since lockdown & no money from the government (I'm zero hours & DH is in TV & didn't qualify for self-employed help) Sad Am dreading when it gets really cold.

Have put the electric blanket on our bed (in loft room so coldest in house) & dug out big coats, dressing gowns & jumpers all round. Also gone mad on making soup - loads of tomatoes ripening in the garden so tomato soup today. Plus Dcat makes a lovely lap warmer & we have loads of blankets on the sofa to snuggle under.

SimonJT · 27/09/2020 07:55

Mine is always set to 20 in the day time and 14 at night.

People who think 16 is cold in November but okay in September are weird.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 27/09/2020 07:56

it does seem early to put it on, i just realised it had come on again this morning after i put it on last night

Angelina82 · 27/09/2020 07:59

I totally agree with you @BestOption. I mean to me everything you said is just common sense. It’s not hard (and much better for the environment and the purse strings) to turn the heating off completely in the summer and then just whack it on on the odd day you feel like you need it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It doesn't matter what month it is. You can use the hearing when you want to 😊
