To think restaurants & coffee shops aren’t safe!!

Okay, I haven’t yet been to a restaurant or coffee shop since lockdown was lifted, but I don’t understand at all, how they can be safe.

I considered a drive thru coffee a few days ago but changed my mind. I mean how can it be safe drinking from a cup someone has touched moments before? Surely this is worse than being less than 2m to someone?

I’ve made the decision to not eat or drink out for the foreseeable, DH said I’m being over the top.
I don’t think it’s safe and I’m sticking with that.

@shesfancy excellent drip feed!!

Typical mumsnetter!

Did your five week old enjoy the farm and the zoo?

🙄

Boobissue · 25/09/2020 23:24

@hahoohayou the OP didn't announce the five week old until after my post!

Why take a five year old to a farm and zoo anyway? Bloody ridiculous!!

So maybe read the posts and stop asking me to show compassion and kindness before the massive drip feed? Which seems odd as she's stated "I work from hone"

Her previous post says she works from home, she didn't mention maternity leave or a baby?

Do you think she might've mentioned that?

You're being fooled.

YANBU OP. I feel sorry for the businesses. But no way I would go to a pub or cafe currently.

@Boobissue

You just can’t help it can you?

Have we only been out of lockdown for 5 weeks? Have we only been in a pandemic for 5 weeks?

I’ve been working from home since March, pregnancy made me vulnerable.

Pregnancy people are allowed to leave their houses and they are allowed to go to lots of outdoor attractions too.

But you just carry on making your judgements.

@Boobissue

I don’t see how mentioning that I have a 5 week old on my op is relevant. If I had’ve done, I’m pretty sure most of my replies would be to tell it’s almost certain I have PND. Seems Mumsnet love to diagnose that.

I sell my labour in hospitality and can confirm that yes, customers choosing to sit in are not safe. None of them are practicing basic safety measures and the labourers are all out en masse, partying and the going to work, no PPE, one or two wearing a mask half-assed occasionally, people who are openly infected but asymptomatic coming in bare faced, etc. Can’t comprehend the mentality of anyone choosing to get their slop and caffeine in a restaurant or whatever these days. Death wish.

GarlicMcAtackney · 26/09/2020 01:12

E.g. someone I know works in a popular place that looks ‘safe’ (loool), poverty wage labourers wearing a visor or mask in view of customers, wiping things, etc. In reality, none of them can stay safely away from each other, or the customers, the kitchen staff are coughing and have zero PPE, there’s no air source, customers are crowding and coughing. The mind boggles.

PottedIvy · 26/09/2020 01:38

I think sitting in us potentially risky as I don't see how different that is to socialising indoors. If the virus is airborne to some degree as it seems to be then any group of people from different households mixing in an enclosed space are at risk if someone has the virus. I think everyone knows this including the government but they are loath to shut down hospitality even though regulations would make eating out unpleasant.

I think the science on transmission through touching surfaces is not as big a risk but obviously thats up to you.

I would order takeaway food but I have no intention of sitting in anywhere to eat until we are on top of this virus.

notangelinajolie · 26/09/2020 02:04

YANBU but I'm saying that as a total germophobe. I didn't do eating out or food cooked by anyone else before corona much anyway so all this makes no difference to me.

Egghead68 · 26/09/2020 20:17

There was a survey out yesterday that asked people what they had been doing before developing coronavirus. The most common response was “eating out”.
