To take DS to the Zoo on day 13 of isolation?

DS's nursery closed from last Monday as they had a positive Covid case. Nursery reopens on Monday after 14 days. We have obviously kept DS at home since as per guidelines and he is on day 9 of isolation. Saturday will be day 13 and is also his 2nd Birthday. We had booked tickets for Chester Zoo and his older sibling was very excited to go. DS has been totally fine thought out and shown no symptoms, we are all fine too. Should we cancel the zoo trip or go ahead?

Yes of course YABU. It hasn't been 14 days.

It's a pain, but you need to isolate for 14 days, not 12.

Unfortunately yes yabu. Its 24 days for a reason - symptoms can take until the 14th day to become apparent.

Sorry but it needs to be 14 days. Imagine he came out in symptoms the next day how many people you could have spread it to at the zoo

Can you change the tickets to Sunday making it the 14th day? Ultimately it's your choice nobody will know anyway but I wouldn't risk it. The reason its 14 days is he may have the virus (even with no symptoms) and could spread it without knowing. 2 year olds dont tend to be the most hygienic creatures & I would imagine will be touching lots of things. Hopefully next year he will be able to celebrate his birthday as normal!

I developed symptoms on the 14th day of my isolation period.
I was stuck in doors for what felt like forever.

Oh no @DaphneFanshaw ...that must have been so frustrating. I don't know why I (wrongly) thought after 10 days it was very unlikely to deletion symptoms and the extra 4 days were just a bit of a contingency

If you’re wanting to change your tickets the best thing is to send them a Facebook message (they are taking ages to respond to emails at the moment). Lots of people are struggling to change dates with them but there is also a buy/sell/swap group for tickets on Facebook.

Go the zoo its 1 day early keep him in his pushchair an social distance. Make the most of it the way things are going and changing all the time you don't know when the next chance could be.

Well me and my kids are going to Chester Zoo on Saturday. It's my 10 year old's delayed birthday treat, as his birthday was in full lockdown. If you go, and unlikely as it seems, come down with Covid symptoms on Sunday, in all likelihood track and trace means they will be off school for 2 weeks.

So, as your little one will have no clue what actual day his birthday is, pleas put it off.

Seriously people, just follow the guidelines. The zoo will still be there after.

But its supposed to be 14 days from the day of contact. Was the day of closure the day of contact? If not, then they may already have isolated for 14 days by the time your trip comes around

13 days and no symptoms? He defo doesn't have it.
Why don't you get a test incase and then go if it's neg?

I would go. But then there's only 2 cases per 100,000 in my area. The risk round here would be ridiculously small.

We are going on Saturday...please don't go! There's still a risk he could pass it on even without symptoms.

Was you child at nursery with the infected child last Monday 14th? If so YABU

However the 14 days starts from when they were last in. If the nursery closed on Monday 14th I assume that’s when the positive test came in. If the child was symptomatic the previous week and removed by the 11th then you will have done your isolation from a positive case.

@coffeeforone The rules are 14 days from contact with the positive case. Was your child in contact on Monday or was it from the Friday before? If it was the Friday then 14 days isolation will have been completed by the day of the trip
