To strongly dislike Nicola Sturgeon right now?

Here to rant that Nicola has gone one step further and banned meeting in homes. She always feels the need to one-up Bojo, and hasn’t even given the rule of 6 she introduced last week a chance to see if it’s working.
Interested to know what the English think - do you think she’s taken it too far, or Bojo hasn’t taken it far enough?!

Seems like such a disparity that in England you can meet with 6 other households indoors and here none 🤯😡🤬😭😭

Half of Scotland were already living under these rules anyway, we’ve had our ‘local’ lockdowns in the west of Scotland for a few weeks now. She’s just bringing in consistency across the country. Plus, most of what BoJo has announced has been in place in Scotland for weeks - increased wearing of masks, table service etc. It hasn’t been enough, we’re still getting worse.

eatsleepread · 22/09/2020 20:56

In fairness to Nicola, Glaswegians can be a law unto themselves. I say that with partial fondness, as I am one originally, and went to uni there. There are pockets of deprivation in Glasgow; areas where folks wouldn't give a shite about wearing face masks or socially distancing.
It doesn't surprise me that of both Glasgow and Edinburgh, it's the former having greater problems.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 20:58

'Boris hasn't taken it far enough in some instances'

Tell that to people in high rate areas. I don't think Leicester have been allowed to mix households for months have they?

The problem isn't the rules, it is compliance and people thinking their cough is a special one and not covid so they'll carry on as normal.

NannyOgg66 · 22/09/2020 20:58

@MrsMattMurdock

The arsehole in this situation isn't Nicola Sturgeon.
Absolutely agree. At least she appears to give a shit about people rather than it all being about the economy. If she had been in charge down here instead of Boris things wouldn't be as bad. Btw it's not Boris who is pulling the strings here, its Cunmings.
RoseTintedAtuin · 22/09/2020 21:00

Not SNP supporter by any stretch but she is better at decision making, communication, accountability and seems to have a decent amount of integrity (in some areas at least) so from that I’m willing to follow her rules. Bojo on the other hand holds no integrity, is breaking laws to get out of a contract he negotiated, defends his personnel from breaking rules they drafted and has backtracked on every decision he has made (which he made late to begin with) so...
Personally I am really struggling with the situation but she’s doing a sterling job IMO, and has made me consider her reasoning and justification for independence despite previously being pro-union.

Brighterthansunflowers · 22/09/2020 21:00

I’m in wales so neither affect me directly but I would much rather be under Scottish rules than England! And I trust that Nicola Sturgeon wants what’s best for Scotland. Whereas Boris Johnson wants what’s best for himself and his cronies. Nicola is also capable of stringing a coherent sentence together and making a logical argument, unlike Boris

52andblue · 22/09/2020 21:00

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

Clearly I cannot be sure, as it is simply my 'anecdata'.
But I have noticed it, and it is often directed at individuals rather than the Westminster Government, (which even in less awful times seems remote and out of touch up here. I am fully supportive of Scottish devolution and in another IndyRef I would want to vote Yes (though I'd worry about the economics of it). But Im my exH and my children have all experienced racism & I know quite a few others who have too. The SNP have not been very vocal in suppressing it, sadly.

But that is a bit of a side issue for this thread.
I think NS is doing well re this situation. Making better decisions than Johnson and building up her political capital due to that. I think the SNP will do very well in the forthcoming elections and that a 2nd IndyRef will be called within 3 years max and will go Yes this time.

luckylavender · 22/09/2020 21:02

@KeepingPlain - you can dislike Nicola Sturgeon & disagree with her policies but you cannot possibly in all seriousness call her 'stupid'.

luckylavender · 22/09/2020 21:03

@RantAndDec - Mark Drakeford gets some terrible press in Wales. Horrible horrible stuff.

Ilovelblue · 22/09/2020 21:04

.... and here's Artan. What a delightful character. Just as delightful as Dave (who has mellowed slightly by the time we get to series one).

Ilovelblue · 22/09/2020 21:05

Ooops, wrong thread sorry!

HelloDaisy · 22/09/2020 21:05

@lughnasadh

Her rules make much more sense.

She does seem to haver her country's best interests at heart.

I can't get my head around Boris and his 'invite five randomers in as often as you like, that'll definitely help'. Confused

Exactly!
GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/09/2020 21:05

'I think the SNP will do very well in the forthcoming elections and that a 2nd IndyRef will be called within 3 years max and will go Yes this time.'

Let's hope so. If only they'd let English people vote too.

KeepOnMovingForwards · 22/09/2020 21:09

Scotland seems to be handling it much better than England in regards to coronavirus. Clearer direction, stricter but more sensible rules (eg not including children in your six).

MintyMabel · 22/09/2020 21:11

Nicola doesn't include young children in the rule of 6 which is sensible of her.

Only outdoors though. With the weather on the turn, telling my 11 year old she can meet her friends but they must go outside as it is blowing a hoolie and raining sideways was of scant comfort to her. Her disability means playing out is difficult for her anyway. October holidays will be so crap for her. Seems silly when they can be at school together all day.

DieSchottin93 · 22/09/2020 21:12

YANBU. DB dropped in unexpectedly tonight which is just as well because who knows when we'll be able to see him again next Sad I've never liked Nicola anyway

That said the 10pm curfew is good news for me as I'm on the late shift at work (hotel) this weekend so at least I know I'll be able to get away at a reasonable time Grin

Ubercornsfunkytop3 · 22/09/2020 21:16

She’s following the advice to the letter Boris is not.

I’m married to a Scot and all his family are up there, we are opposed to independence and what she normally stands for but in comparison to Boris she has shown herself to be a true leader through this - makes the right, but sometimes unpopular decisions to protect the nation, that is a the mark of a true leader. Boris is just like a stupid fat Labrador who wants to be liked and will shy away from making unpopular decisions the best he can!

StoneofDestiny · 22/09/2020 21:17

Totally agree.
Johnson has mismanaged the Covid crisis from day one - he is an utter buffoon that is in a job he is ill equipped to do (yet still thinks he should get paid more for). The clown of Downing Street continues to bluster through everything, changing direction by the day and refusing point blank to be questioned on government decisions by the media. Can't wait til he and Cummings are just a hideous nightmare in history.

slashlover · 22/09/2020 21:20

FreshFreesias

Wee Jimmy is completely out of control.

Your hilarious and highly original joke has already been said in this thread.

Wherrsmaclickypen · 22/09/2020 21:20

@AnyFucker

I don't understand how she has the time to do daily briefings for months on end. Hasn't she got other pressing work to do ? Confused

And if I see her in another pair of fugly white heels again I may just throw my tellybox out the window.

Er....she is prioritising visible leadership during a global pandemic? Am sure she wishes she could wfh in her jimjams and dial it in 🙄

And who needs misogynists when people are critiquing her footwear choices during a global pandemic.

Gaaaah.

hardboiledeggs · 22/09/2020 21:22

I can't stand her but I think she's done better than Boris.

Sweetchillijam · 22/09/2020 21:22

I live in England and don’t particularly like either BJ or NS but of the two I much prefer NS’s clearer stricter leadership over Covid. BJ has made so many late calls, U turns and has so much bluster and waffle. The rules in Scotland seem so much easier to understand and comply with. A lot of people in England are either confused about the rules, blatantly ignoring them or doing a DC and selfishly interpreting the rules to suit their own interests.

soupmaker · 22/09/2020 21:25

Neither government covered themselves in glory over the handling of this crisis. At least NS shows compassion and consistent messaging. BJ actually said in the House today that the virus spreads more after 10pm, hence the curfew. What an absolute idiot. A month ago he was telling everyone to get back to work.

I'm no fan of NS's politics but she's shown leadership a plenty in comparison to BJ.

Sweetchillijam · 22/09/2020 21:26

Agreed @soupmaker.

Under 12s don't count to the 6 or households rule inside or outdoors. There is also no limit on the number of under 12s who can mix.

12-17's are the ones that are only allowed to meet outside.
