LizzyMac As I have said before. I have met her, and she is as hard As nails. A better leader than the current Tory twat. NS will never backdown and will always fight Alba’s corner. Do not underestimate this woman. She really is a force to be reckoned with*
Don't you think Scotland would be better with someone more...personable? Statesmanlike? Rather than shouty and rude? I know its the "hard as nails" image that makes Scotland a laughing stock with my Danish and German friends. I can't really imagine her sitting round a table with all the West-Rhenish model premiers and using that awful delivery. She couldn't even hold down a job in Brussels or Amsterdam, the way she carries on.
I always find the fact that most SNP supporters fail to recognise the juxtaposition between SNP-led legislation which is entirely in breach of EU competition law and their supposed support for EU membership. The latter perhaps magically hoisted to the petard of the accelerated entry procedure, which was done with the former Iron Curtain member states and which still took 12 years from application to completion, as well as huge financial resources from the EU. Is it the accelerated entry procedure that SNP supporters refer to, or is it the standard entry procedure, which can take much longer?
I must admit, my favourite bit of black humour in the White Paper on Independence last time around was when that question and answer format asked whether an independent Scotland was going to be a signatory to the ECHR, and the answer was that they had no plans for that but there would be a "Scottish version of the ECHR". Because obviously Scottish people can't be trusted with a full blown version of all those freedoms and rights, and need state control over what they're given!
I have a feeling that Shetland and Orkney might not particularly enjoy being referred to as "Alba" either...
I suggested to my friend, who is a lawyer with the Danish Government, not entirely jokingly, that Denmark could offer all Shetlanders and Orcadians Danish citizenship with all the benefits but no tax payable, and eventually not only could they become EU citizens again, but that Denmark could take back Shetland and Orkney. As it would sure as hell be better for them to get a tenth of what the Faeroe Islands gets than what they get from being part of Scotland.
