Sir Keir Starmer's speech has just given me a lot of hope...

Just that. There seems to be some hope for the future given the current Brexit/Corona mess. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keir_Starmer
He seems intelligent, aware, fairer, musical (aka creative thinker), more of a family man, mum was a nurse. More able to see what will be important for the many in our society. I am a Centrist by the way, but I have more faith in this man. He seems professional and ready to do the right thing.

He can't stop point-scoring. I'm better than Boris. He's a twit. Tories got it wrong.

I heard a short clip of his speech on the radio - Starmer comparing his twenty something self with Boris in his twenties - sorry, but that was 30 years ago. Last week Angela Rayner made silly quips about grouse shooting.

It's funny, the more I'm told how silly and unreasonable I was to cancel my Labour party membership and stop voting for them because of their misogynist twaw stance, the more convinced I am that I was right.

Heffalooomia · 23/09/2020 11:01

@Lemonyfuckit

I'm hopeful, and lord knows I need to vote for someone and I don't know who else, but like many on here I also need Labour to drop the TWAW stuff and stop throwing women under a bus.
I agree with this
Mittens030869 · 23/09/2020 12:21

I don't like the TWAW issue either, it makes me very uncomfortable, the idea of removing female only safe places is scary for me as an SA survivor.

So I'm torn on this, but hoping that Starmar will realise how this issue is alienating women who otherwise wouldn't hesitate to vote Labour. He's an intelligent man after all, who talks a lot of sense, so I would very much like to be able to vote for his party.

Woofbloodywoof · 23/09/2020 12:36

It’s quite simple really. If you were in an emergency - say a sinking boat or a house on fire - who would you trust most to get you out intact? Johnson or Starmer?
It’s a no brainier to me. I can’t get my knickers in a twist over gender politics while our house is metaphorically on fire. Labour under Starmer is currently the country’s only hope to rebuild after the successive messes of 2016. We can tweak the other, slightly less pressing legislation once we have gotten rid of the dunderhead and his cronies.

Oh that's really hard. You see, I have never voted Tory (I might have once when I was v v young), but in that actual scenario - sinking boat, house on fire - I would actually trust Boris to get me out more than Starmer.

I don't think our society is in such a parlous state as a sinking boat or house on fire anyway. I do think we're at a cross roads, well obviously we are, but I think with both BJ and KS we will just get more of the same. KS has said nothing to make me think otherwise.

So, atm, my vote will really rest on who stands up for women better and it's not Labour. My very Tory MP will represent me far better than our Labour candidate will, unless Labour wakes up from being bloody woke.

Serin · 23/09/2020 14:40

I cant believe that anyone would vote for Boris and his cronies again after this fiasco.
The complete disdain for the NHS.
The exam fuck up.
The lies.
The unelected Cummings.
The utter disaster that is Brexit. (Hows that going Boris?).
The one rule for us and another for them (shooting parties indeed).
But hey at least they have stopped the immigrants coming over the channel.....oh wait.
TWAW is nowhere near enough to stop me voting labour.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/09/2020 14:54

For all those criticising the tories in response to people saying hey won't vote labour, why are you all assuming that we'll vote Tory instead? We have a few years before an election where I will be watching and waiting to see how things evolve and then I will be making an informed decision about what I think is right. Currently the LP are not right.

I do love the belittling comments though like getting our knickers in a twist about gender politics, always nice to see the casual put downs of women not behaving as they're expected to.

PheasantPlucker1 · 23/09/2020 16:51

I think the attack on conservatives is because there is no defense of labour.

For the PP who asked about being in a burning house and trusting Boris or Starmer... I dont live in either consituancy so cant vote for them.

If I emailed my local Tory and Labour MP and candidate, Id only get one response.

The Labour guy blocked me when I enquired about his stance on male rapists in female prisons.

So in a hypothetical, two party, burning building emergency situation itd have to be Tory.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 23/09/2020 17:11

@Cabinfever10

Labour are full on woke and until they drop the TWAW they have lost my vote
Yeah me too.
Kit19 · 23/09/2020 17:19

Labour have gone along completely with redefining the word ‘woman/women’ to include ‘men who present as women’ and are happy to have that coded into law

That at a strike undermines every space, every shortlist, every refuge, prison, women’s sport, every single thing designated to be for women only.

That’s not a tiny thing that’s a massive thing. So little does Labour think of women they’re happy to hand over our sex based rights to men who call themselves women

I would never vote Tory

Like many women I’m politically homeless

PheasantPlucker1 · 23/09/2020 17:22

In other news, Leeds (and their Labour MP) have approved a second red light area.

Controlled prostitution where yet more women and children will be raped and beaten.

Wonder if Starmer will be there for the grand opening?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 23/09/2020 17:51

How can they approve that in Leeds after recent events? That's absolutely appalling. Angry

I feel the same way. It's a sorry state of affairs.

Leeds has more than one MP.
yolio · 23/09/2020 22:32

There must be a lot of votes from the TWAW cohort for Labour.

It is disgusting to me, but not surprising, the patriarchy have been praying for this denigration of women (legally) for years, now they have their chance.

First it was Momentum, now it is this. Labour are coming across as ridiculous now, and am very disappointed that Starmer is bending with the woke wind. What tiny proportion of the electorate would have the power to influence things like this. It is quite sinister.

But if he stood up for an intelligent and equal approach to protect women, he would sail in.

thebiggestmoose · 23/09/2020 22:36

I was feeling hopeful when he was chosen but I'm now feeling massively disappointed

The country is being subjected to endlessly changing rules, the public blamed for the mistakes of the government- August EOTHO, September you've been socialising and spreading covid!..

There needs to be a strong opposition challenging the Government and providing scrutiny and Starmer seems to be nowhere

I mean, he's a lawyer, surely he must see how dangerous it is for a government to be able to pass draconian laws and no one to ask questions?

jakeyboy1 · 23/09/2020 22:38

The point in his speech where he bigged himself up for being a lawyer - who was busy prosecuting villains and helping the vulnerable whilst Bojo was writing for newspapers - was laughable.

Read Nafir Azal's account of what happened with the Rotherham victims of sexual abuse and how Keir decided they were "not credible witnesses." They were children FFS.

NoToMisogyny · 23/09/2020 22:55

Depressed at those that expect ‘BAME’ issues (because they affect men too?) to wipe out the fact that Labour would legislate women out of existence. No. Women have the absolute right to make acknowledgement of half the human race their red line without being emotionally blackmailed. Without ‘whataboutery’. Denying women exist as a sex class affects all women - black, white, rich, poor, able-bodied and disabled. You cannot do anything for women if you don’t accept they exist. End of story.

And I say that as a black woman.

Toseland · 23/09/2020 22:56

They gave a woman’s officer post to a smirking teenage boy. I watched the recent leadership debates; Lisa Nandy saying how male sex offenders would get to choose which prison they wanted to go to! All those women being expelled or expelling themselves #expelme.
We must remember “No self-respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party that ignores her sex.”

MsJinks · 23/09/2020 23:34

Starmer assisted in getting the law changed to get historical sexual offences into court. Johnson called chasing up historic sexual offences spaffing money up the wall. Says enough to me. But we all have different red lines. I genuinely cannot credit anyone would vote for Johnson after the catalogue of errors, the incredible incompetence and sheer laziness he evidences. And whilst the Tories say they are leaving the legislation alone and not going with self id - they are currently showing just what little regard they have for any law at all, so I wouldn’t rely on anything they say or any legislation in England whilst they are in power. Having said that there are other parties than Labour and it continues to surprise me that I still hear folk say Corbyn lost their vote giving no option but to vote for Johnson - no, no and no - at least own your active choice.

RoSEbuds6 · 23/09/2020 23:45

If I was a pretty young woman he wanted to shag then Boris, but as a normal person I’d trust Keir to be decent and save us all,

Ah, but we all know it’s a two horse race.
It’s always going to be either Labour or Conservative.
I would have preferred to vote Lib Dem because they outright said they would scrap the nonsense that is Brexit.
I voted for Corbyn but seeing just how viciously they have shit all over women, if i had time again I would have gone Tory.

CLCB07 · 24/09/2020 21:46

Jakeyboy1. Nazir Afzal is a huge supporter of Keir Starmer and says no-one did more to help child abuse victims. Absolute rubbish he said that about Starmer.
