To lie about my location to the holiday accommodation?

I am single and live alone so this period has been very difficult. I have also worked from home since March and have been very careful with who I see and where I go. Just took my temperature there & normal. About 99% sure I am virus free.

Anyway I had booked 3 days in a cottage by the seaside, about 2 hours drive. I am an artist and have been so looking forward to finishing my project and getting some breathing space before what lies before us in the next season.

The booking.com accommodation has just been in touch asking where I am coming from because I am in a restricted area they will not accommodate me any longer. Well sadly I am in such an area. AIBU to tell a white lie and say I'm coming from the next city over (which is not affected)?

I have been so, so careful and was so looking forward to a short break. Also doubt I'd get a refund and it wasn't cheap.

don't lie. you should be refunded in full, but read ALL the booking terms and conditions EXTREMELY thoroughly

Tiredwiththeshits · 23/09/2020 19:24

In the great spirit of every man alive, it’s easier to seek forgiveness than permission.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 23/09/2020 19:25

Glad its all been sorted

Kbr22 · 23/09/2020 20:21

You are allowed to leave. You can’t stay with anyone from another household, if you are on your own I can’t see a problem. I am from a lockdown area and that is the advice we are being given. Go x

Actually, somewhat randomly perhaps, in Scotland you can share a commercial premesis, such as a holiday place, with one other household (the six people max). You are meant to maintain your distances like in pubs.

That was clarified to the ASSC by the Scottish Government yesterday (the holiday park we were meant to be going too in the summer posted the detail on their Facebook page)

Heath10 · 23/09/2020 20:27

Just lie and go. I too have mhp. It's bloody awful. People who have no idea how depression affects you will always reply with negative feedback. Please go. If you're 100% certain you're not infected PLEASE DO GO AND ENJOY YOURSELF. 😁😁😁😜👍

Good grief. This thread has to set a record for the percentage of people posting after the OP's resolution, having not read the thread.

Jeeeze,

Lovely1a2b3c · 23/09/2020 20:32

Will they not know your address from your payment details?

lyralalala · 23/09/2020 20:38

The OP is going

Booking.com relented

It was resolved several pages ago

While I understand your disappointment we all have to stick to the rules at the moment as if everyone thinks they are the exception to the rule there will be no one left on this country over 60 come next Christmas.

I am just back from holiday in Spain and despite being careful, wearing a mask and barely going out of the secluded villa at all, I'm sitting here now booking my grocery delivery for Saturday and MIL just dropped off groceries for us earlier today that we could not get mid week otherwise. Its also not good for my mental health working from home and not even being able to take some 5 min of exercise outside but we just have to get on with it right now, sorry to say.

Fallingrain · 23/09/2020 21:16

I think mental health is totally relevant. To be honest (for me) the government lost my complete adherence to the rules over the Cummings fiasco. So I would say that if you are struggling mentally and feel that the actual risk is exceptionally low, I’d probably do it. In any event I didn’t realise that an area being in local lockdown meant you couldn’t go anywhere.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 23/09/2020 21:18

If its isolated, then I would go, just wear a mask when or if you need to meet the owners, you need the break

whittingtonmum · 23/09/2020 21:21

I would close my eyes, take a long deep breath and ask myself what Dominic Cummings would have done in my shoes.

Then I would use my common sense and follow my instincts.

Mamorau · 23/09/2020 21:29

I would agree with you if she wasn’t coming from an area which is subject of a local lockdown!

Lockdown areas in Scotland (and England) don’t mean you can’t leave the area. Check the rules rather than assuming.

This was resolved ages ago.

FelicisNox · 23/09/2020 22:17

They will require a proof of address/ID I imagine so it's a moot point.

The rules don't prevent OP from going on holiday - fact which Booking.com have fully accepted.

sneakysnoopysniper · 23/09/2020 23:50

There are times when you just have to put yourself first. The rules have never been applied equitably. I would have no hesitation in going if it were me.

anonacatchat · 23/09/2020 23:53

Oh just go . Boris went to Italy last week 😂

CountessFrog · 23/09/2020 23:55

Actually he didn’t. The airport staff mistook Tony Blair for Boris.

Bet Tone was thrilled.

SideAfries · 24/09/2020 00:04

Remember what BoJo said, common sense! You haven’t got the virus, GO!!!

They accepted several pages ago that it was fine for the OP
sneakysnoopysniper · 24/09/2020 00:40

Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools.

This has always been my motto.

AldiAisleofCrap · 24/09/2020 01:13

@sneakysnoopysniper you really can’t see the irony in that can you.

Hope you have a great time and your short holiday meets all your expectations Flowers
