To lie about my location to the holiday accommodation?

I am single and live alone so this period has been very difficult. I have also worked from home since March and have been very careful with who I see and where I go. Just took my temperature there & normal. About 99% sure I am virus free.

Anyway I had booked 3 days in a cottage by the seaside, about 2 hours drive. I am an artist and have been so looking forward to finishing my project and getting some breathing space before what lies before us in the next season.

The booking.com accommodation has just been in touch asking where I am coming from because I am in a restricted area they will not accommodate me any longer. Well sadly I am in such an area. AIBU to tell a white lie and say I'm coming from the next city over (which is not affected)?

I have been so, so careful and was so looking forward to a short break. Also doubt I'd get a refund and it wasn't cheap.

Do you live in a place that has travel restrictions imposed? If not then I think they are unreasonable cancelling. I own a caravan that I rent out and there are lots of owners on my site that question whether or not they should cancel people who live in areas with extra restrictions. I always point out that by law we should be doing what the local council have stated, so if there are local restrictions that state that there is to be no travelling then yes they need to be cancelled, but if they don’t state that then no, there is no reason for them to be cancelled. I would go back and question it with the link to your councils website

Oo yes Anstruther fish is the best

genic75 · 23/09/2020 17:42

So utterly irresponsible and morally reprehensible to lie about this. And how on earth do you know you are virus free? Just because you don't have a temperature don't mean you are ok.

We are all suffering in one way or another. Suck it up, change your plans.

Chalkitup · 23/09/2020 17:46

Yanbu. I'd lie in your position. Your specific circumstances make you very low risk.

mylittlesandwich · 23/09/2020 17:46

Would people please RTFT! It's all sorted. OP is going away with a clear conscience.

BlueSuffragette · 23/09/2020 17:48

Have a lovely time OP SmileFlowers

Suewoo · 23/09/2020 17:48

Why are you even considering lying? The rules aren't for people to see what they can get away with - they are to keep us all alive and well. It is a community effort. We are all suffering in some way - but getting on and doing it! We may grumble but don't break the rules!! You'll probably be moaning when these restrictions don't work and we are put back into full lockdown because of people like you. Yes - i am angry!

Julz1622 · 23/09/2020 17:48

Regardless of whether or not you are going against local restrictions ( and I don't think you are) the holiday park are specifically saying they won't accommodate people from affected areas. This is to protect their business and their other holidaymakers. Out of respect you shouldn't lie. Yes it's a what if, but what if you do have the virus and don't know, and infect someone else in the holiday park, then they infect someone else, and you cause an outbreak. They will refund you if they are cancelling the holiday.

mylittlesandwich · 23/09/2020 17:50

@Suewoo @genic75 calm down. The OP isn't subject to any travel restrictions and will be going on holiday! RTFT!

fedupwithcookingfromscratch · 23/09/2020 17:51

Have a lovely time!

Mcleaver · 23/09/2020 17:52

You are absolutely not a danger. Enjoy.

Notusuallydown · 23/09/2020 17:54

Have a good time, get the wind in your hair and let it blow away the stress!

comingintomyown · 23/09/2020 17:55

Have a lovely time, I took a short break for the same sort of reasons and it was brilliant even though it wasn’t if you see what I mean !

user1485851222 · 23/09/2020 17:55

Yes, go on your break, enjoy

Suewoo · 23/09/2020 17:56

Sorry mylittlesandwich - she says she is coming from an affected area!

Jeeperscreepers69 · 23/09/2020 17:57

I thought you were a artist not a doctor. Noone can be sure they dont have it. Instead of blabbing your beeswax on here just do what a grown woman would do and make a decision

mylittlesandwich · 23/09/2020 17:58

@Suewoo she also says she's in Scotland coming from an area with increased restrictions, there's no ban on people travelling from these areas. We're from one ourselves and are currently on holiday in the north east of England. No rules or laws broken.

Mamorau · 23/09/2020 18:03

And people wonder why it keeps spreading and figures are increasing. This, this is why!

KittyMcV · 23/09/2020 18:06

Most people who would agree with you are not going to write it on here because of the inevitable backlash. But if you are going to do it, why advertise it here? The world's gone mad imho. I say that mental health is also very important and for many years to come, we will learn lessons from the disaster that is the response to this virus. If you decide to do it, then enjoy your holiday. If you decide not to do it, then just try to keep your spirits up and remember there will be other holidays to come --- that is if anybody can afford them any more, or if any of the holiday companies survive.

BrazenlyDefying · 23/09/2020 18:06

Bollocks.

Was going to write a long reply, but honestly you wouldn't get it if you really think someone going on a self-catering holiday is the problem.

Again. Bollocks.

HyggeHeart · 23/09/2020 18:07

Yay! so glad it worked out and you'll get your much needed break :)

Hydref83 · 23/09/2020 18:09

No I wouldn't go, you can't guarantee your not asymptomatic if your already in a high risk area you risk spreading it to where you travel. Hence spreading the virus, guidelines are there for a reason the agency want to minimize the risk unfortunately you are in that area of risk

SootBusters · 23/09/2020 18:10

I break which you sorely need, you're not a front line nurse, you're an artist. It's difficult for everyone but it's not the blitz, thank God, as this country is now full of snowflakes! Everyone suffers from panic attacks and anxiety, bloody ridiculous. Yes it's irritating, disappointing etc but it's not the end of the world. Imagine if everyone from your area had the same mindset and spread out far and wide across the country? Have you got a garden? If not go and socially distance in the local park, stay in your area! Do you also realise as well as being selfish, you're also breaking the law!

BrazenlyDefying · 23/09/2020 18:11

Do you also realise as well as being selfish, you're also breaking the law!

Which law would that be?

Because there is no law. Here we go again with the hard of thinking not being able to differentiate between the proper, actual, real LAW, and some made up shite they've pulled out of their arse.

myrtleWilson · 23/09/2020 18:12

Which law @SootBusters ?
