AIBU to miss old school party food?
I would love to turn up at a party and for them to be serving cheese and pineapple on cocktail sticks.
Anything else anyone misses?

Ooh this is making me hungry!! So many of these I adore... twiglets were the best.

We used to squeeze primula cheese and chive down a sticks of celery. Another one was to take a huge thick slice of ham, spread soft cheese all over and roll up with a spring onion in the middle and cut into pinwheels.

Mint Vienetta when the chocolate was so thick a heated knife was required. Yum!

Top hats

Notfeelinggreattoday · 21/09/2020 23:24

Tuna vol au vonts or that tinned chicken in them

CSIblonde · 22/09/2020 00:06

Little chopped up celery sticks with squeezy cheese squeezed into them. Mmm. Classic 70' s party food.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 22/09/2020 00:13

Prawn cocktail vol au vents
Celery with primula cheese squeezed in it cut up
Cheese with pineapple at the bottom and cocktail onion on top.

QuestionableMouse · 22/09/2020 00:17

We used to have hotdog, cheese and pineapple on sticks. Loved it.

Crab sticks too. I hardly ever see those now.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 22/09/2020 00:21

I miss vol-au-vents too and like a pp was dismayed to find they’re like hens’ teeth in the shops these days.

Please would someone explain the coin in a scone thing?!

GarlicSoup · 22/09/2020 00:28

Iced Gems

MsPavlichenko · 22/09/2020 00:42

Still do the grapefruit hedgehogs. Mix of cheese, silverskin onions, pineapple and tinned ham on sticks.

Also the Davis gelatine recipes. Tuna and pineapple mousse anyone?

SophieGiroux · 22/09/2020 00:51

The rectangular biscuits with marshmallow piped on in two strips with jam down the middle and sprinkled with desiccated coconut! I did recently find these in B&m and they were as good as I remembered!

ILoveTeeeeeea · 22/09/2020 00:58

Iced Gems, party rings, sausages on sticks, egg and cress sandwiches, marmite pinwheels, twiglets, Bombay mix, Cadbury’s Swiss rolls, meringues sandwiched with cream, tinned salmon sandwiches, sardine pate, Welsh rarebit, a giant Stilton, knickerbocker glories, coke floats, endless plastic cups of sugary pop, cola cubes, eggs florentine.

newnameforthis123 · 22/09/2020 01:00

Anything beige buffet. Especially a tinfoil hedgehog with cheese on sticks as the prickles!

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 22/09/2020 01:35

Brandy snaps stuffed with cream. Even better when the cream had been whipped with brandy.

lilmishap · 22/09/2020 01:50

@QuestionableMouse We love crab sticks and get them in the weekly shop, they are still sold in most supermarkets but they're not allowed to call them Crab sticks. In the last five years I've not found anyone outside my house who can stand them Blush

Mypathtriedtokillme · 22/09/2020 02:03

Sausage rolls.

Mum always used to make cream puffs for events then passive-aggressively over fill them so they would spill whipped cream over the biters clothes.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 22/09/2020 02:03

Iced Vo-Vos?

remainin · 22/09/2020 02:14

Mini vol-au-vents, devils on horseback, warm quiche squares, salmon sandwich fingers, mmmm!

Tearingmyhairout1998 · 22/09/2020 02:16

@BrightYellowDaffodil I’ve got some animal biscuits in the cupboard haha! B&M, get your fill 😂

PasswordPatroller · 22/09/2020 02:28

@gratitudegoddess Crawford's cheese savouries are yum. Always get a bag when I visit the local garden centre.

Hyperfish101 · 22/09/2020 03:06

Looks like only me with the scone coin combo 😀. No idea why. It was always at kids’ parties back in the 70s. Maybe specific to the area I’m from.

Blondie1984 · 22/09/2020 03:28

Pink panther wafers, sweetie necklaces, jelly and ice cream

1forAll74 · 22/09/2020 03:44

We always had strawberry jelly and ice cream, and also blancmange which I hated.

Discobomb7 · 22/09/2020 04:03

I was born in early 80s. I miss those big chocolate or strawberry rabbits made in a jelly.mould shaped like a rabbit

Little iced cakes with cherries on top

Discobomb7 · 22/09/2020 04:07

Why can't they be called Crab sticks. Are they not 100% crab? A few weeks ago I fancied some Scampi from aldi and was in a hurry. I picked up a bag of what i assumed was scampi, it had S campi Bites on the packet. Little did I know that scamp bites are a mix of cod, other fish and prawn...!

lilmishap · 22/09/2020 05:04

That's exactly it. They're Seafood Sticks now which is the equivalent of sea sausages!!
