AIBU to miss old school party food?
I would love to turn up at a party and for them to be serving cheese and pineapple on cocktail sticks.
Anything else anyone misses?

My mum makes a trifle from a 1970s Women’s Weekly. Line bowl with sliced battenburg and soak with sherry, Add tinned mixed fruit, a layer of milk jelly and then cream. Crumbled flake to garnish. Amazing.

Tinned salmon sandwiches cut into triangles.

Blancmange.

Sara Lee chocolate gateau.

Arctic Roll.

Tinned fruit cocktail.

Party rings! Only 50p and 500 calories a pack...a friend told me...

Liptauer cheese, made from cream cheese with spices and chopped gherkins stirred in, totally exotic at a time when you couldn’t buy Camembert in the shops!

ToastyCrumpet · 21/09/2020 21:21

Mushroom vol au vents.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/09/2020 21:22

Oh my goodness, val-au-vents. Filled with prawns mixed with seafood sauce - they were the very height of sophistication. And how could I forget Twiglets?

I'm intrigued by the coin-in-a-scone thing though - what was the coin for?

BackforGood · 21/09/2020 21:22

I prefer cheese and a silverskin onion.

This ^ . Really LOVE them. Not a fan of pineapple.
Really came on to say vol-au-vents, though I see I am not alone.

A decent trifle for pudding.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/09/2020 21:22

*vol-au-vents. Stupid autocorrect.

anascrecca · 21/09/2020 21:24

We always have jelly and ice cream and cheese and pineapple on sticks as part of our birthday teas but I had forgotten about silver skin onion and cheese on sticks !

AgainstAllOdds1 · 21/09/2020 21:28

Lyons Coconut Delights and Tunnocks Tea Cakes

Amanduh · 21/09/2020 21:31

Mini pizzas, quiche, animal biscuits, chocolate fingers and party rings are all very very much still going at most buffets, parties and toddler groups i’ve been to across the country in the last four years???! All very very much still going..?
Sara Lee though, that I agree with!

OhTheRoses · 21/09/2020 21:36

Gosh yes devilled eggs
Mushroom vol au vents
Croustades with Boursin, Helmans and prawns
Stuffed mussel shells
Smoked salmon and green butter pinwheels
Cocktail sausages with honey and mustard
Two bite sized mushroom and cheese mini quiche
Toasted garlic bread bakes with guacamole and salami

Sorry a bit grown up.

Children's party food fills me with no reminiscent memories at all.

TinkersRucksack · 21/09/2020 21:44

Chunks of hot dog sausages on sticks.

Only ever had hot dog sausages at parties

boatyardblues · 21/09/2020 21:47

It’s a shame quiche is out of favour for being fatty. Homemade quiche is great.

Tana433 · 21/09/2020 21:49

A bit off topic but i wonder why they stopped making prawn cocktail and salt and vinegar flavoured Quavers. I dont mind the cheese ones but they would be my third choice if i had my pick of them all in a multipack.

FlamedToACrisp · 21/09/2020 21:50

@FairyAnn

Vol-au-vents! I love them 😁
Best with jam and buttercream!
Thurmanmurman · 21/09/2020 21:55

Black Forest gateau. The very height of sophistication!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 21/09/2020 21:55

Twiglets as standard everywhere. I would eat them by the bucketload given the chance....

sassafras123 · 21/09/2020 21:55

Vol-au-vents with prawns or shrimps mixed with Heinz curried beans ! Fab! Or with those cans of chicken supreme from Marks and Spencer !

FallonsTeaRoom · 21/09/2020 22:59

Devilled eggs and cheese/pineapple on sticks

BlackeyedSusan · 21/09/2020 23:13

Mushroom or prawn cocktail vol-au-vents
