To not want an unlicensed Covid vaccine that govt and pharma would have no liability for?

This consultation closes tonight.

While I am totally pro vaccination, the govt are proposing to:

a) distribute an unlicensed vaccine (hasn't gone through full testing).
b) remove any liability for negative side effects from pharma companies and government.
c) let vaccine be administered by non healthcare professionals (scope unlimited).

These regulations will be put in place for Covid vaccine, but not limited to Covid.

@Gancanny right so they don't know how the person got it but its unlikley to be the vaccine but they cannot be 100% certain it wasn't, as i said its widely reported that TM is rarely triggered by vaccknea but it can happen.

cyclingmad · 20/09/2020 11:34

I'm not lying thanks they haven't said q00% it wasn't caused by the vaccine so how am i lying.

Unless they have woth certwinty determine it 100% wasnt caused by it and they know exactly what caused it then im not a liar.

pointythings · 20/09/2020 11:50

cyclingmad they could be 100% certain if they unblinded that person (which they would have done) and had then found that they were on the placebo, not the trial vaccine.

Do you know how health research actually works?

hoppingleg · 20/09/2020 12:11

@pointythings a good point re placebo meningitis vaccine might have caused the reaction. However we simply don't know. All we can go on is the independent review that states it is unlikely that the Covidvaccine causes the reaction.
I suspect we may get further information with time.
It won't stop me getting the vaccine when the time comes. All drugs have side effects. Some very rare. A small amount of individuals may allergies to some. Some might suffer from dry mouths, or rashes etc.
But this will be a small number of the population and it is a case of weighing up the benefits re possible infinitesimal risk

cyclingmad · 20/09/2020 12:39

So basically I'm not a liar then am I.

pointythings · 20/09/2020 13:31

cyclingmad I would agree that you are not - however, your points on this thread do highlight that we need to start teaching scientific and research methods as well as the appropriate use and understanding of statistics in schools. So many people are clueless about this stuff, and it feeds into anti-vax paranoia in a way that is very dangerous. Currently people are making judgement calls based on no knowledge at all - and they can't help it.

Gancanny · 20/09/2020 13:37

Your exact words were the the volunteer had TM and it had been caused by the vaccine. This is untrue so yeah, it was a lie.

pointythings · 20/09/2020 13:40

Gancanny I have to say you're being harsh - I would assume cyclingmad's lack of understanding of clinical trials is the issue here.

CoffeeandCroissant · 20/09/2020 13:43

@pointythings

hoppingleg I'd be interested to know which arm of the trial the person who had the adverse reaction was on - people need to remember that half the trial participants are receiving a placebo, which is a well tested and widely used vaccine against meningitis.
The Astra Zeneca CEO has confirmed that the person had received the Covid-19 vaccine. www.statnews.com/2020/09/09/astrazeneca-covid19-vaccine-trial-hold-patient-report/

When you have 30,000 people or more in a clinical trial lasting months it's quite usual for some of the participants to fall ill with something.

People die quite regularly visiting Disney World. That doesn't mean that Mickey did them in.

Kljnmw3459 · 20/09/2020 14:47

Not for covid, I would not. But I might for other illnesses/conditions.

Davros · 24/09/2020 22:24

ChupForPresident thanks for posting the link about Exenatide and Parkinson's, I've only just seen it

Elsewyre · 24/09/2020 22:33

Nanotechnology concoction?

Grin

Epic bollocks.

Elsewyre · 24/09/2020 22:44

@AntiHop

"nanotechnology concoction"????

Really op, stop spreading nonsense.

I'd be more concerned that you're going to have to be forced inside a vacuum tank, cooled to about -270c and then probed by a force electron microscope to make any "nanotech" move Grin

That's what 'Big Mouse' wants you to believe - although there are those that think that exposure to "It's a Small World" can have dire consequences
