To not want an unlicensed Covid vaccine that govt and pharma would have no liability for?

colouringindoors · 18/09/2020 20:29

This consultation closes tonight.

While I am totally pro vaccination, the govt are proposing to:

a) distribute an unlicensed vaccine (hasn't gone through full testing).
b) remove any liability for negative side effects from pharma companies and government.
c) let vaccine be administered by non healthcare professionals (scope unlimited).

These regulations will be put in place for Covid vaccine, but not limited to Covid.

OP posts:

The OP is wrong abouut the government excluding its liability. What they are saying is that it is unfair to expect pharmaceutical companies to accept liability where governments are asking them for unlicensed products in response to a public health crisis. The government would still be liable, as now, and the consultation is asking in what circumstances the pharma companies should also still be liable (e.g. if the initial testing was negligent). So part of the consultation is actually about ensuring the public is still protected.

Hope your DD is on the mend soon @DeliasDinner, you must be very worried this evening so fingers crossed tomorrow will be brighter Flowers

@DeliasDinner sorry to read your dd is ill Flowers I hope she’s on the mend soon.

Nat6999 · 18/09/2020 23:21

Thousands of people take unlicensed drugs for health conditions, it doesn't mean that they haven't been tested for safety.

VestaTilley · 18/09/2020 23:21

Agree. I’m v pro vaccine, my DS is fully vaccinated, but no way would I or he have this - far too rushed out with insufficient testing.

10pennychews · 18/09/2020 23:28

Unlicensed is common I use unlicensed drugs for my children. This is a really dangerous game trolls are playing, unlicensed doesn't mean dangerous.
I will happily take an I licences vaccine it's not like it's not been tested it just won't have been licensed

Torvean32 · 18/09/2020 23:31

You're wrong on all 3 points.

1- vaccine will go through 3 stages of training.

2- you know youve not researched you error in this. I cant be bothered to explain it agsin.

3- vaccines as always are given by somebody with training. It might nit be a nurse. It will be someone within health care who has been trained.

OP , you or a few others are posting this nonsense about twice a day. Normally accompanied by a crap video.
Shame on you for using fear tactics to put ppl off getting a vaccine.

Gancanny · 18/09/2020 23:32

far too rushed out with insufficient testing

The vaccine is being tested, that is happening right now. The reason it appears "rushed" is because it has had a shit load of money thrown at it and the usual waiting periods between development stages have been dispensed with, partly thanks to the shit load of money involved.

Vaccine development basically goes like this: decide what vaccine you want to develop... apply for researching funding... wait for funding to be approved... begin research... publish results... wait for results to be scrutinised... apply for development funding... wait for approval... begin development... publish results... wait... and so on and so on. There are also ethics committees, participant searches, database compilation, and all sorts of other ins and outs. Essentially a large part of vaccine development involves applying for funding and/or approval and then waiting before you can move to the next step.

The covid vaccine development wasn't starting from zero, research into vaccines for coronaviruses has been ongoing for many years so a lot of that was able to be carried over to this particular vaccine. The money being thrown at it enabled them to skip a lot of the "apply for funding and then wait" stages and they got permissions to run stages concurrently rather than the usual "apply for permission to proceed and then wait" process.

If all vaccine proposals had this level of funding then they'd be developed this quickly too.

If I was at risk of bad reaction to covid I would consider it

DeliasDinner · 18/09/2020 23:35

Thank you very much. She's not in hospital at the mo (she's waiting for a call back) so that's positive. Any of you walking in these shoes would go for the vaccine. That much I can promise you. She will be donating her plasma as soon as she's well enough in the hope of helping someone else. That's probably an unlicensed treatment too, but again, anyone who's ill enough to need it will no doubt be willing to give it a go.

Chloemol · 18/09/2020 23:36

So don’t have the vaccine leave thought that want to alone

stoppingstones · 18/09/2020 23:37

Unlicensed doesn't mean untested. Dentists regularly give steroid preparations ( including inhalers Italy used for asthma) to those suffering badly from mouth ulcers. Another example is omeorazole for babies.
The world has suffered enough. We need to get the vaccine out there safely and quickly

Shamoo · 18/09/2020 23:50

Part of the issue I suspect the Government will face with a vaccine is that they have shown themselves consistently over the last 6 months to be totally incompetent and totally happy to lie about just about anything. So the level of trust a lot of the public have in them is at an all time low. I would struggle to accept any vaccine supported by the current Government unless it had been approved and used in lots of other countries with stronger leadership (eg NZ) first. Which is a worry, as I am normally very pro vaccine and hate anti-vaxxers!

Cabinfever10 · 19/09/2020 00:53

I really want the vaccine so much so that I have signed up to be a guinea-pig and am hoping that they need/want me.
Also if I read the document correctly then the government will be liable for any vaccine damage rather than the person who administers the vaccine or the manufacturer which is as it should be.

Ponoka7 · 19/09/2020 05:47

@SnackSizeRaisin

"Who is talking about a vaccine passport? Seems very unlikely..."

All World Leaders, Bill Gates and members of the WHO have been talking about vaccine passports. They will mean no mask wearing, no restriction on meet ups, visits to care homes and hospitals etc unless we are building immunity, Care Homes will have to close to indoor visitors every winter.

I'm at risk from Covid and do voluntary work with people who are, so I will be having the vaccine and would happily be a a test subject.

I have friends across Africa and there is already opposition towards the vaccine. There's fears that they will be used as a testing ground. Local pastors are speaking out against it. There will probably be similar fears across India/Bangladesh, who will remember the exploitation of women to test contraceptives. So I think that Europe may have to lead the way on take up.

The threads, been useful because It's answered the OP's points.

PhilCornwall1 · 19/09/2020 06:42

@SparklyLeprechaun

It's a big conspiracy OP, Bill Gates is behind it, he wants to implant us all with unlicensed chips under the guise of a vaccine, that's why.
If we are getting implants by Gates, life is going to become very tedious. We'll constantly have to close all our windows and switch off and on again. And the endless fucking updates, oh god!!!!
Michaelschofield · 19/09/2020 08:42

The whole world isn’t desperate for a vaccine. Anyone who thinks a vaccine passport is a good idea needs to research a little deeper . The virus had a 99% survival rate. Why are people falling for the fear the media and government have projected?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 19/09/2020 08:48

The pharmacist who gives me my seasonal flu vaccine is not a doctor or nurse. DH was capable of injecting me in the days post caesarean.

MadameBee · 19/09/2020 09:37

I used to inject myself as an IV drug user.

Years later I was taught by a nurse how to inject myself with treatment for Hep C.

Pretty sure I know which one felt safer.

LouiseNW · 19/09/2020 09:38

“I'm not going to enter into any debates about this in the comments“

Okay then 😂

Racoonworld · 19/09/2020 09:42

Unlicensed doesn’t mean untested. It will have gone through the full range of tests, but EU licensing takes ages and we need one as soon as possible. Don’t you want to go back to normal? Why would you want to prolong this? The vaccine will be safe and will have been tested on 1000s of people, we aren’t Russia!

False! The WHO have actually been cautioning against vaccine passports.

OP, you lost me at nanotechnology (I'm lying, you lost me at the title). This is clearly Qanon type conspiracy theory stuff.
