To not want an unlicensed Covid vaccine that govt and pharma would have no liability for?

colouringindoors · 18/09/2020 20:29

This consultation closes tonight.

While I am totally pro vaccination, the govt are proposing to:

a) distribute an unlicensed vaccine (hasn't gone through full testing).
b) remove any liability for negative side effects from pharma companies and government.
c) let vaccine be administered by non healthcare professionals (scope unlimited).

These regulations will be put in place for Covid vaccine, but not limited to Covid.

Many many drugs prescribed by GPs are unlicensed. This does not mean they're untested.

Unlicensed doesnt mean untested. It means its licensed for a different medical purpose. Its not at all uncommon to prescribe unlicensed medicines. E.g. a particular drug might be licensed for condition a in adults. But not for the same condition in kids. But it might be appeopriate to prescribe the unlicensed drug (i.e. not licensed for use with children) in a particular case. Just to clarify

@SparklyLeprechaun - this sort of comment makes me mad

MissConductUS · 18/09/2020 21:30

A medication can be completely done with clinical trials and remain unlicensed.

I'll probably get a covid vaccine under an EUA because I'm a health care worker. And I'll have reviewed the clinical trial data before I get it and be happy to get it. I think you're being pedantic about the term "licensed".

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 18/09/2020 21:30

My husband did all my injections after my c section. Every night for two weeks! The nurse told me what to do, DH wasnt in the room, I told him what to do.

Injections really dont require a doctor.

Fucking hell I am so sick of this absolute crap. I am reporting this thread. You are choosing to misinterpret the consultation points and present your twisted version as fact, it's dangerous.

Bill himself squashed it, he knows you're onto him.

Can anyone explain the liability part of the consultation? So unlike now, a patient who is injured by the vaccine won’t be able to claim compensation?

Butterer - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/national/vaccines-harmed-troops-uk-doctor-20040112-gdi55w.html

He concluded, "It seems most likely certain that Mr Izzet did in fact receive classified `secret' injections prior to his expected deployment and that in turn these have most probably led to the development of autoimmune-induced osteoporosis."

Last year a war pensions appeals tribunal awarded Izett a 50 per cent disability pension, based on the findings of Howe's report.

I don't understand what you mean about the government not being liable OP. I thought the government were taking on the liability which would usually sit with the manufacturer. Can you clarify?

Southwest12 · 18/09/2020 22:21

Unlicensed doesn't mean untested as has been said many times alrwdy. And many drugs are used as unlicensed indications, meaning they've been tested and licenced for one condition but are used for another (but haven't specifically been tested with that patient population and haven't been licensed to use to treat that condition). All this legislation does is extend the current ability to use an unlicensed drug, so that once a vaccine is ready we can use it straight away rather than delaying the six weeks or so regulatory approval will take.

Anyone can give an injection, I take two medications by injection and do it myself and have never had any training, I'm supposed to get it done by the practice nurse!

And regarding no financial recompense for giving the vaccine, you do know that currently GPs and pharmacies get paid for delivering the flu jab programme so why would this be any different?

hm246 · 18/09/2020 22:22

I’m not in anyway an anti-vaxer. DS has had all his injections, due his next lot next month and will be having them like normal.

The civil liability and immunity part this concern me. Also that it mentions treatments and vaccines Covid and Flu. I don’t understand why flu has been mentioned.

@Gancanny Hee hee! You made le laugh out loud with that Bill Gates comment!

alittlehelp · 18/09/2020 22:31

Oh sorry just read it properly, ignore my previous comment.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/09/2020 22:35

Allow the redistribution of vaccines from ‘all available sources’ to meet the demand so what might start out as a trusted ‘Oxford University’ creation (which has been paused as the first stage of trials has resulted in hospitalisation of a volunteer) could easily be switched into a nanotechnology concoction.

Would you like some vinegar with your chips?

hm246 · 18/09/2020 22:42

Although thinking about it, after the chaos with track and trace, testing, brexit and general running of this country including before 2020, I’d be very impressed if this government was able to set up working and functioning vaccine passports that stopped unvaccinated people from boarding planes, entering shops ect.

tilder · 18/09/2020 22:55

I was trying to imagine how long a socially distanced queue would be if our practice nurse is the only one offering the vaccine.

I am hoping more people will be able to offer it. Maybe in a booth at the covid test centres. Lots of booths.

DeliasDinner · 18/09/2020 23:14

You know what? Right now my DD is ill with covid, and her symptoms have worsened this evening. You can bugger right off with your ill informed scaremongering OP. Many drugs are tested, but unlicensed for particular scenarios, and as for non HCPs vaccinating, why would that be an issue? Are you picketing every beauty salon that offers Botox for cosmetic reasons? Or tattoo parlours for injecting ink for decorative reasons?

The entire world is desperate for a vaccine, I hope that if this vaccine is effective, it can be rolled out asap

Oh one last thing, the thalidomide comparison isn't a valid one
