... about Asda delivering at 3.00 am

I woke up at 3 this morning and thought I heard the noise that vans make when they are reversing. DP was still up watching tv (he's practically nocturnal Grin).

I mentioned it this morning and he said "Oh yes, it was an Asda van". Apparently, he'd seen flashing lights go by and looked out of the window, the driver hadn't closed the roller door properly, so there was a warning light flashing.

The driver then made a very quick drop off at a house halfway down the road, slammed the roller door shut, reversed up and drove off.

I had no idea that they delivered in the middle of the night and think it's a bit antisocial! It must have been really noisy for the houses close by, we're at least 100 yards away and I could hear it.

Can’t see the problem tbh. Your dp was already awake so he wasn’t disturbed
Did you get back to sleep or remain awake as a result ?

There are no delivery slots for Asda delivering food at 3am. The earliest delivery slots are 6am.

Next time you hear an Asda van that early take the reg number and make a fuss with Asda.

The latest delivery slot goes up to 11pm, perhaps. Driver was dropping something off for a friend or relative in their own time.

People drive at night sometimes, it is allowed.

Unless you live off grid you’ll occasionally hear a bit of noise,and yes that might happen 3 am. Not great, but don’t get all Karen about it kicking up fuss

DP has just revealed that he doesn't actually know it was Asda, but he was using "Asda" as a generic term for a supermarket.

He's clearly a twat and I think I'll have to LTB.

@SentientAndCognisant, I was awake until about 4.30. I heard the milkman at 4, and my neighbour leave for work at 6, then Southern Water arrived just before 8 to dig up the pavement opposite for the 4th time.

For a quiet, residential street of fewer than 50 houses, right on the edge of a small town surrounded by open countryside, it seems to be really busy ...

I doubt anyone is getting groceries delivered at 3am.

I had a delayed delivery in the last slot the other day from a supermarket (not Asda). Supposed to be delivered between 10-11pm. No sign at 11.20, just about to call (rather worried they'd mistake our house for NDN who is in her 90s, has happened before) when the local store called me... problem on route and driver wouldn't get to me until about 1am so they were recalling him and would deliver in the morning. Fine by me.

When they did deliver the next day, the driver was pretty chatty and said he'd happened to be on duty the night before, and had needed to go out and drive the route to INTERCEPT the late-running driver (who wasn't answering his phone) to stop him from continuing to try to deliver past midnight...

So it is entirely possible it was an official delivery gone wrong and a driver trying to salvage his job somehow by dumping and running in the middle of the night. Not a good way to try to salvage it, though!

No supermarket delivers at 3am. That was a personal trip and likely to have been an emergency. I’m not sure there’s anywhere in the country where you won’t hear some sort of noise during the night.

Some supermarket deliveries were running very late at one point by us. I had a delivery scheduled for 8pmish that arrived around 10pm.
The driver said it was taking longer because of bigger orders and people wanting to wipe shopping before he could take the teay things back (no bags that day anyway). I asked if he had finished for the day but he said he had 5 more deliveries in the van for in and around a village a good 45 minutes away from us. I did wonder what time the last farm would get their delivery and whether - as is very likely on a farm - they would have to be dragged from bed to accept it.

The vans don't go home with the drivers so unlikely to have been a personal trip.

I would suggest it was a supermarket 'type' van

Can't remember if it was last year or the year before but our 8-9pm Christmas food delivery didn't arrive until 12.55am! I couldn't get a hold of anyone and had actually assumed it had just been cancelled and had gone to bed. There was loads to put away with it being our main Christmas shop so it took ages to put away. I felt sorry for the driver, he said it was a shambles every year.

I live with two night workers. They tend to like to get groceries when they come off shift if going into the shop as it's usually pretty quiet then, or if delivery they'll do it in the evening after they get up.

I hear delivery drivers occasionally in middle of night..3.am ish..I just felt sorry for the driver having to work so blooming late.
It sounds like there is a lot of bottles on board, but not a milkman.

Reporting a driver for doing his or her job sounds incredibly spiteful and petty.

Ahh, that perhaps is what I am hearing. Deffo not an oldskool float, but a box type van that rattles in a bottle-ish way.
