... about Asda delivering at 3.00 am

I woke up at 3 this morning and thought I heard the noise that vans make when they are reversing. DP was still up watching tv (he's practically nocturnal ).

I mentioned it this morning and he said "Oh yes, it was an Asda van". Apparently, he'd seen flashing lights go by and looked out of the window, the driver hadn't closed the roller door properly, so there was a warning light flashing.

The driver then made a very quick drop off at a house halfway down the road, slammed the roller door shut, reversed up and drove off.

I had no idea that they delivered in the middle of the night and think it's a bit antisocial! It must have been really noisy for the houses close by, we're at least 100 yards away and I could hear it.

Used to work at a major retailer...someone phoned up about frequent middle of the night "deliveries".....it was all stuff that was being nicked.

I find a useful rule of thumb is to immediately discount anything said by someone who uses the word "Karen" (unless speaking to someone called Karen).

DP has just revealed that he doesn't actually know it was Asda, but he was using "Asda" as a generic term for a supermarket.

He's clearly a twat and I think I'll have to LTB.

I had a tesco's order due by 9pm the other day. It came at 11:45pm. A neighbour over the road shouted at them to fuck off!

Probably the milk delivery. Lots of people are using them for the first time this year due to the difficulties getting fresh food at the start of lockdown. Electric floats are a thing of the past, unless there are still some in city areas - rounds now are much larger as each has many fewer customers than the days when everyone had a doorstep delivery, so each van has to travel further. Hence some deliveries being as early as 3am (even earlier on some rounds, I’ve heard anecdotally).

No, I heard the milkman later on. His van is quite quiet, and doesn't make the reversing noise, and doesn't have a roller shutter on the back.

I honestly wasn't dreaming of reporting it, I was just surprised at the middle of the night delivery. Now I know it isn't the norm and was some sort of weird one-off, I don't mind.

Loving the idea of a drug dealer masquerading as a supermarket delivery though!

Is he certain it was ASDA and not just a chilled van in the same style?
There are three milk delivery services that visit our street on various days, two of them use the same type of van and the other is a modernised version of a milk cart!

I think people who have rule of thumb are best ignored as they’re inevitably thick. Human behaviour & norms really are complex and there is interpretation etc. Anything deemed rule of thumb indicates a lack of rigour and over reliance on catchphrase

Asda don't deliver that time. Earliest is 7am. The pickers don't start until 3am or 5am.

Bloody Milk and More delivery here at about 4.am.

Wouldn't know about it but the driver seems to be running a mobile disco with the car windows open.

It is horribly loud and the company don't give a shit that it is waking children, pensioners and sick people as well as everyone else.

Would rather have a supermarket delivery, they only crash about a bit and leave, they don't park up and blast crap music and then drive off with it blaring out, always long enough to ensure you are wide enough awake that you can't drop off again.
