I've only ever been able to lose 2lb a week and that's with eating a good diet and walking 10,000 steps a day, what am I doing wrong I see loads of people losing 4-5 lbs a week !!

How many calories are you consuming vs what you are burning off?

LagunaBubbles · 17/09/2020 22:12

2 lbs a week is a healthy loss and mire likely to be sustainable. Its worrying you want to lose more.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 17/09/2020 22:14

It's easy, you just have to be morbidly obese to start with.

That's how I do it.

YellowNotRed · 17/09/2020 22:14

It depends how much you need to lose.

Very overweight people will lose weight (initially) in bigger numbers but it will balance out after a couple of weeks to losing 1-2lbs a week for them, too.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 17/09/2020 22:16

4-5lbs in a week messes around with your metabolism. To burn one pound of fat, you need a calorie deficit of something like 3500. Its extremely hard to lose more than 2lbs a week (a typical adult woman probably only needs around 10-12,000 calories a week) because you either have to eat almost nothing (as little as 5-600 calories a day) or do a huge amount of exercise.

Youaremysunshine2010 · 17/09/2020 22:16

I don't count calories just make sure I eat sensible and no crap, I've got just under 3 stone to lose xx

100% what @YellowNotRed said. People with big losses either are already massively overweight and therefore will initially lose it quickly or a basically not eating at all on some sort of crazy crash diet

Most long term sustainable loss is aimed at 1-2lbs loss a week

littlecatfeet · 17/09/2020 22:17

The only people losing 4-5lb in a week are at morbidly obese weight levels. Even they will slow down as their weight gets closer to normal.

2lb/week is rapid weight loss, even if it doesn't feel like it.

Youaremysunshine2010 · 17/09/2020 22:18

My bmi puts me at obese xx

The closer you are to a healthy weight the slower it comes off. Im doing a 36 hour fast 1 day in 3 atm. Want to get under 9 and i just couldnt change my set weight of 9 stone 3lbs

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/09/2020 22:21

Well firstly you start by not looking at how much others are losing😉 2 pounds a week is great weightloss!

Ask yourself:
Is what i am doing healthy?
Am i making sustainable changes so I don't put weight back on?
Is my weight generally on a way down?
That's what you need to consider. Not other's weight loss.

Remember. You didn't put weight on in couple of months, you will not lose it in couple of months.

WiserOlder · 17/09/2020 22:21

2lbs per week is good progress

I would start tracking your calories, and make sure you never eat back any exercise calories, but if you're losing 1-2lbs a week doing what you're doing then that's incredible, you're doing brilliantly.

Be aware that as you get lighter, your body will burn less calories (check your TDEE) so you'll need to decrease your intake accordingly to keep losing.

ButtWormHole · 17/09/2020 22:23

Sorry I forgot to say that 2lbs a week is actually brilliant! That would only take you 21 weeks to get to your goal!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/09/2020 22:24

Can I just ask out of curiosity where are these people losing 4-5 pounds a week?

planningaheadtoday · 17/09/2020 22:27

Low carb. Up to a pound a day, but more realistically 1/3 pond a day.

Cut out everything with flour, potatoes, rice and sugar. Eat everything else and don't cut out fat because it will fail.

WetdreamBeliever · 17/09/2020 22:28

I used to go to slimming world and I just knew that those who had lost 5lbs or more that week we're lying to themselves. They would not eat or drink a day before the weigh-in; sometimes they'd spend an hour in the sauna as well!
Don't believe half of it.

Count your calories with my fitness Pal. Weigh your food. If you have three stone to lose you need more guidance on portion sizes.
Jade308 · 17/09/2020 22:30

Not eating....

One meal a day does it for me if I want to lose some timber

BadLad · 17/09/2020 22:30

Amputation

chipsandgin · 17/09/2020 22:30

Ideally you don’t unless you want to pile it all back on!

TenDays · 17/09/2020 22:36

Cut out wheat - that's bread/pasta/pizza. Works for me.

Powerlessstepmum · 17/09/2020 22:42

It is really hard. My BMI is just below 25 so I'm not technically overweight, but I have a tyre around my middle I want to lose and a single indulgent day can tip me into overweight so I want some leeway! I'm currently running every other day, doing body weight exercises on non running days, cut virtually all carbs and doing intermittent fasting ie 800 calories on the running days and I am only losing 1-2lbs a week. It is maddening. It has taken me all summer to lose half a stone (a long weekend away saw me putting on 5lbs). So I've resigned myself to keeping at it relentlessly.

Anthilda · 17/09/2020 22:49

@BadLad 😂😂

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/09/2020 22:57

I don't agree that op should count her calories! And I myself count. She is obviously doing absolutely smashingly with portion control without counting. There is simply no need.
