I've only ever been able to lose 2lb a week and that's with eating a good diet and walking 10,000 steps a day, what am I doing wrong I see loads of people losing 4-5 lbs a week !!

OP posts:

@WetdreamBeliever

I used to go to slimming world and I just knew that those who had lost 5lbs or more that week we're lying to themselves. They would not eat or drink a day before the weigh-in; sometimes they'd spend an hour in the sauna as well! Don't believe half of it.
Not always the case...

I went from 14 stone to 10.4 and would regularly lose 3-5lbs during the first 3 stones. I’m 5’8 so that weight still put me just in a healthy BMI.

I’ve kept it off for 10 years.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 17/09/2020 23:09

Posted too soon.... should add that I always ate / still eat.

Sciencebabe · 17/09/2020 23:26

Ignore the 10,000 steps bullshit. You need at least half an hour of proper exercise a day - 6 days a week. Heart pumping, sweating, like a HIIT dvd or Zumba. They're in something like swimming at the weekend and your of to a good start. Go to bed by 10.00. Drink lots of water. Do yoga or a form of weights/squats. Join a gym.

jetsincloud · 18/09/2020 00:39

Strict Keto Diet.

CSIblonde · 18/09/2020 07:29

That's a good steady loss. Whenever my DM did WW she lost lots every week for first 6weeks then stalled & it was 1pound if that . Every time. So your slow & steady sounds more successful.

Standrewsschool · 18/09/2020 07:31

@BadLad

Amputation
Shock

A little extreme methinks!

SafeInBed · 18/09/2020 07:35

Try eating under 1, 200 calories a day and fasting through the morning. I skip breakfast except for a coffee. I stopped drinking tea with milk recently and switched for peppermint. Yesterday I had approx 900 calories consumed but then burned 250 doing my steps.

SafeInBed · 18/09/2020 07:36

Also don't do steps as in just your daily walking. I put headphones on and power walk my 10k steps in about an hour, and I sweat just from that Grin

I'm currently about 140 lbs.

SafeInBed · 18/09/2020 07:37

Chloe Ting workouts also in the evening

FatGirlShrinking · 18/09/2020 07:41

I'm losing between 2 and 5lb per week by sticking to 12-1400 calories a day and doing 3 x 30 min workouts a week. The main reason I can lose more that 2lb a week though is that I started out at 233lb, now 210lb so am obese and carry a lot more fat than my body is designed to carry. I fully expect the losses to decrease as I get smaller.

SurreyHillsGirl · 18/09/2020 07:44

All those advising not to lose more than 2lbs a week as you will 'put it all back on afterwards' are talking outdated nonsense.

In an article titled “Myths, Presumptions and Facts about Obesity” in the prestigious medical journal, The New England Journal of Medicine, researchers put this claim firmly into the “myths” category, and I quote from the article, "A recommendation to lose weight more slowly might interfere with the ultimate success of weight-loss efforts".

The article I refer to is below.

Low carb & HIIT
They weight will fall off

Redred2429 · 18/09/2020 08:05

I have lost 30 pounds since June every now and again I loose over 2 pounds but I aim for a pound a week and then 2 pounds is better than my goal don't be disheartened Any loss is good and some weeks it's ok if you just maintain good luck xxxxxxx

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/09/2020 08:06

Unbelievable 🤦
Someone is managing to lose a kilo a week without counting, fasting, low carbing whatever, which means that her diet is actually really good and whatever she does without some "diet" actually works and instead of saying "That's great! You cracked it! Don't get into the circle of diets", people actually come in with low carbing, under 1200 cal etc. Ffs people.

CarlottaValdez · 18/09/2020 08:09

I think 2lbs a week is very fast! I’ve lost 16lbs over the last 3 months so just over a lb a week. That’s involved pretty severe calorie restriction. I’m still 10lbs into obese so my immediate target is being “just” overweight.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 18/09/2020 08:16

Low carving isn't unhealthy though, so long as the carbs you are giving up are the beige ones and you are continuing to eat colourful vegetables.
And I don't see how awareness of calorie intake can be bad either, since it's true that you don't want to take in more than you use.

SafeInBed · 18/09/2020 08:51

Clearly it worked Shro, but OP is asking how to lose more than she already has more quickly...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/09/2020 09:00

Well the question was what is she doing wrong.
Answer is, nothing.

Everyone loses in a different rate. And losing without restrictive diets, weighting and counting is actually amazing and people should support it rather than encourage OP to go into whatever diets. Everywhere women moan how once you start you get into the horrible circle of low this and low that. Yet here is someone who doesn't need it, so let's tell them to do it. It's sad.

PollyPelargonium52 · 18/09/2020 09:00

Cut out or cut down on bread and potatoes it helps a great deal.

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 18/09/2020 09:04

Honestly, the best way to do it is 1-2lb a week. Everyone loses at a different rate, and if you get into extreme ways of losing weight, your body is more likely to keep hold of your weight and create a stall in weightloss.

Keep doing what you're doing, maybe add some high intensity workouts, but dont drop your calories or amount you're eating too significantly too quickly.
Believe me, it's absolutely gutting if you go to the extreme of barely eating anything and exercising and the weight doesn't budge at all in weeks. I recently didnt lose anything for 27 days, and that was when I was eating 400-600 calories a day.

SafeInBed · 18/09/2020 09:05

Yet here is someone who doesn't need it, so let's tell them to do it. It's sad.

Her weight loss is great, yes. No, she doesn't need diets. But, I was giving advice for if she wanted to lose quicker... Nowhere did I say what she's been doing isn't amazing but the title of the post is what I responded to, how to lose more than 2lbs a week.

If I asked how to lose more than 2lbs a week and just got people telling me I didn't need to lose more than that and doing fine as I am, I wouldn't be satisfied because I want ideas...

CallmeIT · 18/09/2020 09:09

I think it’s quite common to lose a lot at the start. I’m not usually a dieter but had piled it on over lockdown having got into some very bad habits (and was overweight to begin with!) so I have changed my habits a bit over the last month (still eating everything I like, but keeping an eye on calories overall) and my weekly weight loss has been 4lb, 3lb, 2lb, 1lb. I’d be happy to keep losing at 1-2 per week now.

Genderwitched · 18/09/2020 09:12

I'm doing the Fast 800 and am losing between 3-4 pounds a week. I'm also feeling great, better than I have in years.

fishonabicycle · 18/09/2020 09:15

That sort of weight loss is generally down to water loss anyway. It's very difficult to actually lose that much fat in a week.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/09/2020 09:18

Yup. 4 pounds about 14000 calories. That's deficit of 2000 calories a day approx.
