There's a few but one I see often that just makes me Hmm is 'what if they were your kids?'.

It's obviously always said in response to someone who is not the child's parent and therefore surely a completely pointless argument?!

What others do you always see and eye roll at?

And

'Why don't you just 'batch bake'

My teeth go on edge

But then 'batshit crazy' is another one that irrationally irks my soul🤔

BatShite · 28/09/2020 17:53

No sayings as such, mind the Biscuit annoys me a fair bit.

Its when posters will make as vague as possible post on a topic yet expect answers and get mad with people for asking for relevenat details as apparently thats going to identify them, and will not even..for example say what their DHs hobby is as it may be 'outing' even though it finally turns out its...football. So not even slight chance of outing anyone that they are kicking off that their husband plays football 5 nights a week! Not exactly a massively rare hobby. Grin

TeacupDrama · 28/09/2020 20:18

Saying DH hobby is outing when it's cycling or running, outing is saying he is the choirmaster at a cathedral in SW England, or a GP in the Isle of Skye

People who say they literally don't know anyone that does a certain thing, when the certain thing is done by 25-50% of population liked voted for brexit or takes their shoes off at front door or co-sleeps with baby.

derxa · 28/09/2020 21:10

Why don't you just 'batch bake' or 'batch cooking'
There are regular articles about some woman who batch cooks watery looking trays of food and feeds her family for £1.34 a day on the DM website. It makes me want to go to Waitrose and buy a lobster.

drspouse · 29/09/2020 08:50

I'm the cyclist in my family, DH is rubbish and scorns MAMILs. That's outing!

butterpuffed · 29/09/2020 08:57

When someone quotes a post and writes THIS ^ underneath

myhobbyisouting · 29/09/2020 09:02

"Sets my teeth on edge" Hmm

butterpuffed · 29/09/2020 09:04

'You sound unhinged'

ZoeTurtle · 29/09/2020 09:07

"Only on Mumsnet. In the real world, people don't think this."

Yeah, of course thousands of people come to Mumsnet and post the opposite opinion to what they really hold for... reasons? Rather than the more obvious explanation that people are too polite to tell you what they really think in "the real world."

ZaraW · 29/09/2020 09:22

I really hate the "middle class" discussions and looking down on people who have "common" taste. I have more respect for people that like things because they love them and couldn't care less what other people think.

mrsduff · 29/09/2020 10:14

Granted it's rare, but I feel like I've won Mumsnet bingo when a husband with an extremely outing hobby is also a six figure earner at the top of his game...

chrislilleyswig · 29/09/2020 11:27

Anyone?

Usually when an OP hasn't had a response within 10 minutes of posting

Such a foot stamping, look at me, answer me attitude

seayork2020 · 29/09/2020 11:38

AIBU (or not) when the post is not actually asking this

I have noticed on another forum (so that fact its not on here may annoy people itself?) when people say they have no money but are struggling with house work/kids

'Just hire a nanny and cleaner' yeah sure are you paying?

ConcernedAuntie · 29/09/2020 11:41

When people leave a response that just says 'This'.

This what? This is right? This is wrong?

Also in real life when people say 'My Bad'. Your bad what? Bad breath? Bad haircut?

squishee · 29/09/2020 12:23

"We live rurally"

Said no-one in RL ever.

Womencanlift · 29/09/2020 12:55

Another one I have just realised irritates me is the insistence that all money must be family money and if it’s not it is financial abuse.

I appreciate that it’s a different situation if one parent stays at home but when both partners work then it is much more sensible to keep finances separate (after all shared bills are paid obviously)

I definitely couldn’t be with a partner who insisted on all money going into one pot

seayork2020 · 29/09/2020 23:27

Man up? What does it actually mean? (I know but I think it is a ridiculous expression)

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/10/2020 13:04

People saying things like ‘You’re going to get slaughtered OP’ or a sarcastic ‘This is going to go well...’ when an OP says something controversial. It’s so pathetically gleeful at the prospect of a bun fight.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 03/10/2020 13:14

Everything is theft on MN. There's a thread at the moment from an OP who wants to frame a printed out version of her favourite picture from the internet, as she can't afford the £500 it will cost her for a canvas from the dealer. People in that thread are acting like she's Stephane Brietwisser (for those who don't know he's an art thief who stole $1.4billion of art from 200 museums). If a mate IRL asked if they should do that I'd say "sure who's gonna know". I love the idea of these Pearl clutchers saying to their mates "Ate you usually a thief? That's disgusting. Would you steal a car you couldn't afford"

Hocuspocusandfairies · 03/10/2020 13:20

Wow just wow-hate it😄

Octoberbreeze · 03/10/2020 17:35

The word unhinged for the most normal thing
Unable to realise people have different opinions Hmm
The glue thing makes no sense at all the people saying it sound like they think they are clever they sound dumb Confused

The glue thing makes no sense. I thought glue sniffing was from the 80s

I did get asked today if I was on drugs. Presumably that's the 2020s equivalent

Witchcraftandhokum · 03/10/2020 21:00

'cool wives' used to describe any woman who doesn't display behaviour which if perpetrated by a man would be called controlling.

Witchcraftandhokum · 03/10/2020 21:01

Oh and 'handmaiden'

Witchcraftandhokum · 03/10/2020 21:06

Oh, and (I'm on a roll now) remember when narcissism was the most diagnosed issue on MN?
