There's a few but one I see often that just makes me Hmm is 'what if they were your kids?'.

It's obviously always said in response to someone who is not the child's parent and therefore surely a completely pointless argument?!

What others do you always see and eye roll at?

OP posts:

When an OP wants to 'call out' someone

When an OP wants to 'call out' someone

Snap!

Just saw a thread that reminded me of that.
It just sounds so "Okay, sunshine - outside!
Somebody hold my coat..."

Scandi123 · 27/09/2020 20:33

@seabreeze77

When someone wants to talk about a person without using their real name and they say “let’s call her Mary”, No let’s not.
“She’s gonna be called LISA for the purpose of this thread”.. Hmm
CeibaTree · 27/09/2020 20:35

Mine is when people call things 'posh' in their posts as in 'I'm going to buy my DH some posh aftershave' or 'I'm getting some posh chocolates' etc. I don't know why it annoys me, maybe it's because by saying something is posh, the poster is being overly humble or something!

ShebaShimmyShake · 27/09/2020 20:36

She’s gonna be called LISA for the purpose of this thread”..

What's the problem with that? So much easier to follow than calling everyone A, B and C.

Dollyrocket · 27/09/2020 20:38

‘At the minute..’ Angry

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 27/09/2020 20:40

I don't get the whole oneupmanship of people stating how long they have been using Mumsnet. Why would anyone care?!

Haha yes! I flit between thinking between these lines, or imagining a smug, self righteous OP who wants the world to know how clever/right/superior etc they are

Mostlylurkingiam · 28/09/2020 02:17

All the god awful abbreviations for family members dh, dd etc. Just write it out it's not that hard!

ShebaShimmyShake · 28/09/2020 07:33

I understand why they do it but I get irritated by OPs telling us a post is "lighthearted". If you have to tell the audience in general that you're about to try to be funny, maybe the joke isn't strong enough to stand on its own. Just make the joke; there is always the chance it might fall flat, that's the risk with humour. If it's good enough and suits the room, you'll get an overall positive response even if there is the odd "get off the stage" comment.

Another reason I'd like to see reaction options for posts. You could let someone know you laughed without posting.

Pobblebonk · 28/09/2020 08:06

"Me being me decided to ..."

Who else could you be being? And you wouldn't say "Me decided to", so why leave out the I?

rayoflightboy · 28/09/2020 08:09

"Reader" I married him.

That's the one that really gets my heckles up.Jesus nobody cares.

cologne4711 · 28/09/2020 08:11

Calling everyone selfish if they don't agree with your views on covid (or anything).

Make a reasoned argument, don't just use personal insults.

Athers666 · 28/09/2020 08:42

People pushing the OP for updates on husband caught cheating or whatever by pretending to be all concerned. "Hope you're ok OP and managed to get some sleep. How are you this morning?"
Which really means er hello I want some more drama please.

This is so true 😂😂😂

This is like our local fb page.
"Just seen 2 ambulances, the air ambulance and 3 police cars in the park area. Hope everyone is ok....."

Er well clearly people are not ok if they need this degree of medical help. What you actually mean is "does anyone know what happened because I'm dying to find out without having to wait to see appropriately released details on local news outlets"

Tsubasa1 · 28/09/2020 09:17

Been on mumsnet for years but this is my first time posting Hmm

Rosehip10 · 28/09/2020 09:19

"Can you wear a visor OP"

"Can you have a spa day OP"

Why not? Much easier to follow than all this A, B and C stuff.

Yes it is, it’s an irrational irritation. I’d rather have “I’ll call her Mary”
Just the wording I suppose. But hey we all have different things that annoy us? What this thread is about surely.

Yep. It's so obvious you're just fishing for information!
honigbutter · 28/09/2020 13:48

I dislike posts that start "My friend is the loveliest and kindest person" and then proceed to describe endless mean and selfish acts which make it clear the friend is anything but.
Is it to make the poster seem a good person who always sees the best in people?

Browneyesbigbum · 28/09/2020 13:57

People that cannot accept that everyone doesn't have the same opinion as they do.
Stupid things that are meant to insult but make the person saying it sound really thick...'are you on glue?'
Using the mental health issues/concerns when someone has to do something really easy life isolate for 14 days....oh the poor students and their mental health Confused

joystir59 · 28/09/2020 14:01

'"Make a hot drink and snuggle on the sofa with a blanket'' in response to a middle of the night totally life changing or life threatening crisis.
Ditto "try not to worry"

StillCoughingandLaughing · 28/09/2020 15:41

‘In this house’ - as in ‘In this house the rule is...’ Usually used by some bossy type who wants to passively aggressively make clear that she would never stand for the sort of nonsense the OP clearly does. I just know I’d walk under buses to avoid these people.

‘I am not a short order cook’ is another one - used by posters to demonstrate that they have ‘no truck with fussy eaters’. If anyone said it in real life you’d laugh in their face.
