There's a few but one I see often that just makes me Hmm is 'what if they were your kids?'.

It's obviously always said in response to someone who is not the child's parent and therefore surely a completely pointless argument?!

What others do you always see and eye roll at?

OP posts:
1984isnow · 17/09/2020 22:08

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult

And I agree so much with the PP who mentioned the texts that aggrieved OPs are meant to send to whoever annoyed them.

Did you see some of the ones on the thread where the very lovely op was stood up.

They were telling her to send "oh don't worry about standing me up, the very hot waiter/handsome footballer that came in asked for my number and we have a date tonight, must have been fate, so thanks" some of the texts op was being told to send were so embarrassing and obvious.

Oh, I remember that thread, the replies were so cringey.
flowerbombVR · 17/09/2020 22:09

Are you on glue?

What age are the people who ask this Confused

SaucyHorse · 17/09/2020 22:09

@BessieSurtees

Brought .... it’s bought
Except when it is brought, of course...

I get a little flash of irritation at threads that state or ask something in the title and then start the OP with "Just that really".

"Haven't read the thread but..."

"How old do you think I look?"

SaltyAndFresh · 17/09/2020 22:13

'the risk is vanishingly small' Envy

'You're clearly not stable enough to do your job so why don't you resign and let someone else do it?'

Guess the context Grin

rayoflightboy · 17/09/2020 22:15

If certain posters post, you just know its going to go one way.

LTB brigade,it feels like they railroad women in to leaving for their own enjoyment.

The NC brigade,do they really think they wont fuck up.And do something to their kids.

That you cant mention an older persons age otherwise its ageism.Nothing to do with the fact it might be integral to the story.

And people just cant be arseholes, they always have to have some sort of Sen or dementia.

SaucyHorse · 17/09/2020 22:16

@TheDuchessofMalfy

strapping 6ft tall DS

If they’re not vegan they’re being used as an example of why we only need to eat three beans a day, or similar.

Haha I think it's more common that the strapping son eats 4000 calories a day but it's all muscle because he plays a lot of rugby.
IndieTara · 17/09/2020 22:18

The word horrid. It's so twee and never used in real life

IcedPurple · 17/09/2020 22:19

"Wow you sound overinvested" or "You seem really angry."

Usually said by someone who knows they can't respond to your points and so tries to put it back on you for being 'overinvested' enough to deal with their crap arguments.

supercee · 17/09/2020 22:19

'I've been here for ages - naice ham, Sistine screamer, penis beaker blah blah'.

Like stating these things makes what you're about to say carry more weight than a newcomer.

'You knew he had children when you met him'. This magical crystal ball that only exists in Mumsnet land.

How dare you complain about your stepdaughter who was fine at 4 but has turned into a devil child at 13.

rayoflightboy · 17/09/2020 22:20

Oh the Haitch V Aitch debate is always good.
Love watching the snobs come out of the woodwork.

Or just showed this thread to my DH and he thinks.

Nobody cares what your DH thinks.

VenusClapTrap · 17/09/2020 22:22

show him/ her / them this thread

Hah, I did this once. I’d posted in AIBU about Dh boiling pasta by putting it into cold water and heating it up. It was pretty unanimous that HWBU and I was told to LTB. I showed him the thread. He thought it was hilarious - but he still puts the pasta into cold water. Bastard.

IcedPurple · 17/09/2020 22:25

Posters who say 'sorry' or 'I'm afraid' as though they were experts and you were waiting with baited breath to hear their exalted opinion.

Very common on the coronavirus discussions, as in:

"Sorry, but the virus isn't going anywhere."

"There won't be a vaccine for some time I'm afraid."

Of course, none of these people actually know more about the subject in hand than you or I do.

DoTheMaccaroni · 17/09/2020 22:30

“That name just seems a bit try hard”

  • On the baby name threads when people suggest anything outside of the top 20. Wtf wouldn’t you ‘try hard’ to think of a good name for your child 🤦🏼‍♀️
GoldfishParade · 17/09/2020 22:32

"I just asked DP. He thinks your DH is a prick."

  1. Yes well done you for letting us all know you have a DP who isnt a monster like the OPs
  2. Really? You really bore your DP with tales of MN?
StillCoughingandLaughing · 17/09/2020 22:33

‘Ferried about’, when used to describe non-drivers. They never just get a lift - they are always ‘ferried about’.

One that seems to have crept in a lot recently is ‘I wouldn’t dream of doing/saying XYZ...’ Apart from being weirdly old-fashioned, who exactly DOES dream of doing whatever the action in question is? ‘Some people dream of fake and fortune, but I dream of going to a dinner party without taking a gift for the hostess - but I suppose I never will...’

Faux ignorance/lack of understanding; usually to cover bigotry or a potentially unpopular opinion. ‘But I genuinely don’t understand what non-binary means; can someone please explain to me why someone would say they’re non-binary?’ You know exactly what it fucking means.

‘Oh my’. Used in a super-patronising way to indicate a kind of disbelief that someone could have misunderstood the point you’re making; as if you’re not laughing at their utter stupidity, but are mildly embarrassed for them.

‘I’m furious on your behalf OP!!’ Really? I’ve been shocked at some of the behaviour people describe on here, but furious?

Gailplatt95 · 17/09/2020 22:33

This thread is just what I needed tonight😂 some of these have killed me😂

Emeraldshamrock · 17/09/2020 22:33

The top one for me is Karen it angers me, ducks in a row is irritating.
Or just showed this thread to my DH and he thinks that too.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 17/09/2020 22:35

Oh, and I forgot ‘the car’ and ‘the garden’ - used by posters who have zero concept of the possibility that the OP might not have either, as many people don’t.

imtoooldforthisshite · 17/09/2020 22:36

Keep 'em coming....Angry

GoldfishParade · 17/09/2020 22:36

"Oh bless this has made me a but teary for her"

When OPs DD got one less chocolate in her party bag

stayathomer · 17/09/2020 22:38

Have always hated 'big pants' or 'big girl pants'. 'Entitled much?' although I haven't seen it in a while, and also when people tell you not to be so defensive if you question something

Posters ganging up with others to be unkind or repeatedly targetting a specific poster, it's online bullying.
Reported my first ever thread recently and where they asked why I was saying 'eh I think the thread's gotten out of hand'- they were tearing the op to shreds and every second or third insult had a grin attached, it was like the worst herd mentality I'd seen online

MooshWoosh · 17/09/2020 22:42

@oohmama

'Get to fuck' 'I'd tell him to get to fuck' Really? You'd say those words? Those exact words?? Because A. I've never ever heard someone say that and B. Where is fuck? Is it a place? Do you mean fuck off?

Gets me everytime ..

I think this is a regional thing.

If you come to the west coast of Scotland and act obnoxiously, it is quite possible you will be told to 'get tae fuck'

TacosTuesday · 17/09/2020 22:42

I love to hate this - it starts with something along the lines of:
Do all parents on here have ridiculously genius like kids - according to the posts no-one has an average child?
Reply: You are totally not BU! Most people vastly exaggerate on here. My child is actually a genius & G&T in every way and always has been that way but I never post that!
Love those replies Grin
