Is the continued existence of this thread, or any thread with this sort of debate, beneficial?

Feels like we'd be better served by an announcement without ongoing discussion.

I've never seen similar debate over the existence of the various other sub forums so it just seems like racists are using this thread as platform.

flatnightmare · 16/09/2020 22:52

@WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW

Also genuinely interested to know why blacks people would want to isolate black people to their own board? I don’t want it to sounds harsh I am just curious. But surely that defeats the whole object of wanting to be treated like everyone else. You don’t want to be singled out yet single yourselves out sort of thing.

Also.. did something happen to make this a wanted thing? A racist remark ect?

I might just have a severe case of FOMO🤣

What an enquiring mind you have and what do you think you're missing out on?

That’s good news PatricksRum suggestion and points put forward (not just from herself) were listen to and taken on board

MN has its positives

Exactly. I've been trying to make this point several times but maybe not as succinctly as I've never seen similar debate over the existence of the various other sub forums.

Everyone who is mad about this - why do you care if there is another sub-forum on this huge site with at least 150-200 other subforums??????????????????????????????????????????

Cocothefirst · 16/09/2020 22:56

Congrats 🎉

@flatnightmare
Absolutely everything! Feels a bit like when your friends make a side group chat with1 or 2 of you in it and you’re left wondering what they’re talking about I guess.

I also suffer immensely from anxiety so that’s probably my main issue🤦🏼‍♀️

FWR and it's right to exist is discussed very frequently.
BlackWaveComing · 16/09/2020 23:02

Ffs. Describe racist behavior as racist rather than reaching for a sexist trope.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 23:05

But white women have a specific privilege in the US against black people. Look at To Kill A Mocking Bird. It's not sexist to acknowledge that.

But do you feel like that about every subthread on Mumsnet - there are several hundred of them - everything from "The History Club' to 'Infant Feeding' ?

They are not private rooms you can't enter.

flatnightmare · 16/09/2020 23:07

@WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW Do you mean you're worried that they might be talking about you? I don't know about your friends of course but having had a quick look at the BlackMumsnetters forum I have already learned some interesting new facts and I don't think you are mentioned at all.

I suffer from anxiety too and used to worry dreadfully about what other people thought of me and one of the many ways I try to stop my mind spiralling out of control is to remind myself that most people don't really care what other people do as they are pre-occupied with themselves.

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 23:08

Havaiana

I'd describe that behaviour as disgusting, immoral, reprehensible. Still fail to see why a name, specific to the race and sex of a person needs to be coined though? Plus "Karen" has now come to be used against any middle aged woman who dares to step out of line hasn't it?

Do we have a name for white men or just women?

I think the white men who behave like that get called Chad.

I'm certainly not mad about it, far from it, however, it is the only one of the 150-200 sub forums that is defined by the colour of someone's skin. As I posted way back it just feels a bit of a backward move.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 23:09

@EDSGFC yes male equivalent is ‘Ken’

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 23:11

Can you post the context of that post ie a poster telling another specific poster

What's the point when you just ignore and twist?
You were wanting people to quote and when they did went off on a rambling tangent about how it wasn't a quote and can you do so and so instead.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 23:11

Yes I think @cabingirl is right , Chad is more common.

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 23:11

Well so far we've got Chad and Ken so no consensus then? Not as pervasive as Karen is it if you can't even decide on what the name is.

doadeer · 16/09/2020 23:11

Certain men also get called gammons

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 16/09/2020 23:12

@cabingirl no and you make an excellent point.. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Ah but it feels a little frowned upon to visit a board for black people to discuss amongst themselves when I’m not black! 🤣

@flatnightmare oh thank god. I was worried they would be talking about how insane I’ve made myself look 🥴 You also make a good point- I better stop here before I dig myself a big white hole!😅

Stripesgalore · 16/09/2020 23:15

Chad comes from men’s rights activism.

It just means an alpha male that young women want to have sex with. They believe black men are more alpha than white men anyway, so there are plenty of black chads. It isn’t about being white.

But as I posted up thread, BBQ Becky is another term for women. @EDSGFC

It’s a US thing.

Only if you don't understand that there are significant shared experiences in the present day which affect the black community (to different extremes - not one monolith) that white people do not understand or experience.

It's not always about inequality or racism as well. Although let's not sugarcoat it and pretend that's not a huge part of it.

Health issues, beauty and personal care, cultural traditions for example would be different even if we were living in a post racist world - having a place where everyone just understands your perspective is valuable.

It's not backwards to value the things that make us special and unique.

It's backwards if we use those differences to hurt others or control them for our gain.
