Thanks to the fab PatricksRum for fighting against racism we've got our own board here

Look for black mumsnetters 👍🏿

You know I waded through 4 threads on this topic and at no point did I feel that the tone was anti- white and at no point did I read I was banned from being on the Black Forum. Some of you are twisting words and gleefully waving them in the air as reverse racism

A hundred per cent this
It was repeatedly said by posters that white people can post, just not wade in with their racism whataboutery crap.
Told to quote, do and get shit like "anyone can take a sentence out of context" "try again"
These threads are eerily similar to some of the worst trans threads on here.

FWR and it's right to exist is discussed very frequently.

Where?

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 23:20

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.fatherly.com/love-money/male-version-of-karen-meme/amp/

‘These white women see things that are not going the way that they want, and they feel that they can call the police. It’s evidentiary of their white privilege. Women of color are not calling the police for the same types of things or with the same frequency.
To be able to pick up the phone and say, “Hey, someone is doing something that I don’t like” — not even, like, “Hey, someone is doing something that makes me feel unsafe” — is a privilege. Women of color and people of color don’t have that same privilege. And that really is the same centerpiece that connects all of these. Women, and in some cases men, rely on that white privilege and they do it so naturally that calling the police really becomes an extension of upholding the everyday standard of whiteness.’

Do sealions dig holes?

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 23:21

So how and why is it now an insult used against women in the UK?

I objected to it being used against me as it's misogynistic, another poster agreed. You said it wasn't misogynistic so what's the term for white men then? Because unless there is one it is misogynistic.

Tillygetsit · 16/09/2020 23:22

I'm white and I wholeheartedly congratulate you on this achievement. When I read all the racist rubbish on this thread, I can see there is absolutely a need for it! Good on you.

There are terms for men (internet says Ken or Terry).

It’s not misogynistic because it’s a term used to describe something that mostly whites women do in the US. I already said that upthread.

It’s not black women’s fault the term was hijacked by men on reddit.
@cabingirl no and you make an excellent point.. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Ah but it feels a little frowned upon to visit a board for black people to discuss amongst themselves when I’m not black! 🤣

@flatnightmare oh thank god. I was worried they would be talking about how insane I’ve made myself look 🥴 You also make a good point- I better stop here before I dig myself a big white hole!😅
I get that. I'm white but I really appreciate the chance to learn about others' experiences. I've found it really useful reading extensively in black spaces online to help me widen my viewpoint.

I rarely contribute to discussions unless I feel I can be of help. For example on Lipstick Alley I chime in on Royal Family discussion occasionally with my British perspective.

Space on the internet is infinite - my view is let's all be generous with one another and learn from each other.

Nopenotsureigiveahoot · 16/09/2020 23:25

@StormzyinaTCup for many women on here though a lot if their experiences are defined by the colour of their skin. Experience of motherhood, education, employment, colourism etc are all things that can be affected by your skin colour. If there are women on here who are able to connect, discuss and advise over shared experiences there should be no problem.

Ablackrussian · 16/09/2020 23:26

However I wish @MNHQ had the common sense to create boards for other minority race communities too (Think Indian, SE Asian, Eastern European, Latin American ect

Why not ask for one?

Posters did say they had asked many times over the years.
PurpleHoodie · 16/09/2020 23:27

Don't ask. Don't get.

On mumsnet? I must admit I've never seen that.

Same

Ablackrussian · 16/09/2020 23:29

Why can't I speak to other black people about black issues/life without being made to feel guilty about it?

It's peculiar.

PurpleHoodie · 16/09/2020 23:29

BMNetters is up and running.
Others can point to this and say "It can be done. Now us please".

liverbird10 · 16/09/2020 23:30
@Marg33t

Why don't you campaign for other boards like we have?

It feels like you want to take away from us.

I quite literally said in this post and multiple others than me and many other MNetters from other minorities have asked for this multiple times. I wasn't aware that the way to go about it was post on site stuff because i just don't spend enough time on MN to know all the ins and outs, but we have asked lots of times.

I've also said multiple times how i'm all for the Black MNetters sections, we would just like similar sections for us other ethnic minorities aswell - to say that's taking away anything from you is very unfair.

I've also spent much of this thread defending the new section so to go after me is very unfair. I'm glad MN has created a safe space for you. Maybe you could support us in asking for our own spaces too rather than accusing me of stealing your thunder.
@OhReallyThen I'm another British person of Asian descent and I agree with your post here entirely.

Ablackrussian · 16/09/2020 23:31

Posters did say they had asked many times over the years.

Then they need to keep trying. They should have their 'safe' space, too 😊

cabingirl · 16/09/2020 23:32

@EDSGFC

You keep mentioning that other minority groups have not got a sub-thread despite asking for it - what is your exact point?

Is it that because it hasn't happened for everyone yet then no one should have it?

Is it that you are mad that out of all the potential minority sub threads black mumsnetters were first?

Why are you so against this sub-thread? If you feel very strongly for the creation of a differnet sub-thread please go to site issues and start a campaign - I will come and support you.

Which minority sub-thread do you want to campaign for first?

Ablackrussian · 16/09/2020 23:32

liverbird10 definitely happy to support 😊

This raises an excellent point.

The correct procedure for asking for an extra section is via Site Stuff, or @ personal message to MNHQ.

Well done to PatricksRum for their success.

Why should they have to keep trying though? This was only suggested very, very recently for black mumsnetters - it didn't need people to keep trying did it?

At the very least, why didn't Mumsnet canvas everyone and ask if there were any other groups who wanted a separate board and then set then all up at the same time? I can understand why posters who had asked for this multiple times in the past would feel put out to see another group given it first when they've only just asked.

I am not put out about the creation of this group. I feel badly for other groups who have asked for it and haven't got it and now another group have asked once and have got it.

I'm also upset on behalf of the black mumsnetters who have said they don't want this and who have explained their reasons why but their voices have been drowned out by the vocal white mumsnetters who have championed it. That doesn't sit right with me. I don't think this is a discussion that white people should have been involved in but I'm the one who's racist apparently, for arguing that white people shouldn't be allowed to drown out black people, but there we are.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 23:46

I’m BAME and I have no issues with black women getting a section ahead of my ethnicity. Black women are the most disenfranchised women in the UK.
