"What I find I uncomfortable is the talk of ‘banning’ all posters outside of that specific group."

Yes, that's what makes me feel uncomfortable. It's sort of a bit ironic really and doesnt sit well with me. Maybe that's not what mn wants, but others interpretation of it and that it's not really black only? Because surely that's exactly what happened in apartheid where there were white only areas.

They can see. They are just pretending not to in order to mask their racism. I’m so tired of it.

The board for black MNetters is great and i fully support it. But @MNHQ can you please look into starting boards for other ethnic minorities you have large numbers of? We'd like a safe space too.

But how can they do that unless they're approached and asked for those individual boards?

HQ probably have no clue how many posters they have here from other countries, as why would they?

Did people complain that Scotsnet or Craicnet unfairly excluded English MNers? Does having a board for dog lovers harm those who prefer to keep ferrets as pets? We have one for Style & Beauty, does that constitute some sort of terrible exclusion of people who wish to be neither beautiful nor stylish? Are SEN focussed boards a form of apartheid punishing those who do not have children with SEN? How can we have a FWR board and not one for the men? Etc etc etc.

If a space on MN for black women will not add to your life, no one is going to force you to use it.

Comparing a subsection on an internet forum to apartheid...? Are you fucking serious?

Good work guys. If that’s what people wanted, then that’s fair enough. Hopefully you’ll get answers to questions faster as it will make it easier to find topics that you can relate to etc.

It's when they say no whites allowed and no other races allowed that doesnt sit right.

@WorraLiberty

That was literally me asking right there. And I and many other MNetters from other minority races have expressed a want for this over the past few months on multiple threads about racism. Hmm

And if you'd read my post properly you'd see I wasn't talking about people from other countries, I am very much british but also a member of an ethnic minority.

You would also just hope that a big company like MN would have the common sense and intelligence to realise that racism goes beyond the black/white narrative and think 'hmmm, one ethnic minority has shown us why they need a safe space, would make sense that others would too, maybe we should look into this'

The irony of this thread bringing out people's true colours. Why does it affect you if there's a board that you won't be able to relate to? I'm sure there are hundreds of boards on here that some of you don't frequent Confused

So the black community fight to be treated equally then open up a group for blacks only 🙄 This is racist!

So with that line of thinking you must think that women only spaces shouldn't be allowed? Or spaces for just for disabled people? Or SEN spaces? FFS, get a grip.

@Bearbehind

I totally agree it’s good for all groups of people who have something in common to have a place to get together

What I find I uncomfortable is the talk of ‘banning’ all posters outside of that specific group.

I am white. I think the idea of this is black people don’t want to constantly be asked questions, expected to educate non black people or compared. This is supposed to be safe space rather than to ban and exclude white people in a sinister way. When black peoples boundaries are not listened to, how else are they to express without talk of banning people?

@OhReallyThen

As someone 'BAME not Black' I have no problem with there being a Black Mnetters board. However I wish *@MNHQ* had the common sense to create boards for other minority race communities too (Think Indian, SE Asian, Eastern European, Latin American ect). We have struggles that are unique to our race as well. And the inclusion of only a Black board and nothing for any other race just perpetuates the recent problem of racism being framed as a black/white narrative and white people congratulating themselves on being 'anti-racist' by reading a few black authors and going to one BLM march whilst they're racist to other minorities. There's all this talk of 'educate yourself' but so many white people only seem to want to be educated on black issues and when i try to bring up an issue of racism i've experienced they genuinley don't care. I was called a 'paki' at a BLM protest by someone so proud of themselves for being anti-racist and there's still all the 'go back to where you came from' and anti-muslim rhetoric that always resurfaces around 9/11.

The board for black MNetters is great and i fully support it. But *@MNHQ* can you please look into starting boards for other ethnic minorities you have large numbers of? We'd like a safe space too.

I completely agree.
