Were there, in your example, menopausal women arguing against a menopause subsection shouted down by young long way off menopause women telling them that their opinion didn't matter?

Because that's what's happened here.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/09/2020 21:44

Alrighty. :o

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 21:45

How about people read all of the threads still remaining and make up their own minds?

Definitely agree with that too

I haven't read about the other threads but what it feels like you are saying is that in the other threads there were black mumsnetters arguing AGAINST a black MN thread, and there were white mumsnetters telling them their opinions didn't matter?

My point it that ADDING this space for a particular shared experience doesn't take anything away from anyone else's particular shared experiences.

In face it may lead to the creation of many new sub-threads for many different minority communities if there are enough members who want it.

I can't understand the animosity for the creation of this particular space for this particular shared experience.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 21:53

If I've quoted from this thread then people can very easily check back that a) I've quoted accurately, b) I've quoted in full and c) the context

It was literally said to you you quoted earlier, what's changed?
As you said anyone could copy quotes.
Yes, people can check back and see your quotes.
Just like anyone who wants to read the other threads and see OP's posts (really easy to do now even on a long thread since you can just read OP's posts only now and no others, great function)
I just copied the quotes word for word.
Or were you just hoping that it'd go unchallenged and nobody would bother to see whether it was indeed true that OP had said "whites are banned" or not?
As I said, no point even quoting as some are determined to just twist and see what they want to see or quite happy not having anything to back up what they're saying, just expecting people to blindly believe what they're told, which is "whites go away" - blatantly untrue if you actually bothered to read the threads.
Which I agree, anyone can do and make up their own minds.
You'll never reach the entrenched minds but people with open ones who can actually see what's being said without being blinded by their blinkers of prejudice might see

I’m very pleased to see that some of the more egregiously racist posts on this thread have been deleted. Alas, that hasn’t stopped yet more racist posts from appearing. Why do racists feel the need to spout their appalling views all over the shop? So depressing.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/09/2020 22:10

Actually, don't answer.

I feel like we are just perpetuating the bullshit and giving a voice to people who don't have good intentions here.

I'm happy the topic is up and running and no amount of goady nonsense is going to make it disappear.

You relayed posts below (in bold), you didn't quote them.

Repeating a lie (i.e white people are barred) to confuse people and stir trouble is what racists do.

It's not a lie because it was said more than once or twice that it was a place for black mumsnetters to post and not white mumsnetters. In fact one poster said she looked forward to being able to read it and learn from it (so not post on it) and was told it wasn't there to educate her.

I've noticed most of @OnceUponAThimble 's posts have gone pfft. Isn't it depressing that I didn't even think to report any of them? We've become inured.

babyb2nd · 16/09/2020 22:14

@cabingirl

It's a sub-thread for people with shared experiences. There are a couple hundred such sub threads on Mumsnet across a wife range of subjects.

For example here are all the subthreads in the main Health thread:

Addiction support
Alcohol support
Allergies and intolerances
Autoimmune disease
Child mental health
Children's health
Coronavirus
Dementia & Alzheimer's
Diabetes
Eating disorders
Exercise
Family planning
General health
HCP Chat
Life-limiting illness
Menopause
Mental health
Stop Smoking
The weights room
Women's health

Technically you could just put Menopause into a general Women's health section. Or even just a Health section. Why does it need its own subthread?

Because for those women going through this life-changing shared experience it's easier and more user-friendly to have all their threads in one place. If you are not going through the menopause right now you probably don't have anything useful to contribute - unless you are a doctor, or other medical professional specializing in this area, or perhaps a concerned family member asking for advice for someone else.

You may want to hang out to read in this thread if you are a younger woman (to see what's coming) or a man (to see how to support a partner)

No one has banned you. But you probably won't spend a lot of time in there if it's not relevant to you.

If you are one of the people arguing why this new forum for black Mumsnetters should exist, are you struggling to understand that there's a need for this particular shared experience?

I'd recommend that instead of complaining about it now, you spend a couple of weeks checking out the new thread, reading the different topics which come up and learning a little about the cares, concerns and issues of our black communities. Their shared experiences.

You are not banned - there may even be places where you can contribute.

And if it doesn't interest you in the slightest then just don't go to that thread - I'm sure there are loads of subthreads you never venture into - how many times have you thought deeply about the SN wheelchairs and mobility aids thread?

Having this exist doesn't take anything away from anyone else.

Also genuinely interested to know why blacks people would want to isolate black people to their own board? I don’t want it to sounds harsh I am just curious. But surely that defeats the whole object of wanting to be treated like everyone else. You don’t want to be singled out yet single yourselves out sort of thing.

Also.. did something happen to make this a wanted thing? A racist remark ect?

I might just have a severe case of FOMO🤣

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 22:18

Also.. did something happen to make this a wanted thing?

Yes, a poster campaigned for one, and several others wanted one too - not to isolate themselves away, just to have somewhere they can talk too if they so wish just like Scotsnet and Craicsnet do (IrishNet)
Everyone's still completely free to post exactly where they like.
Not to be a racist, or a troll, or both though.
Them, not so much.

@OhReallyThen

As someone 'BAME not Black' I have no problem with there being a Black Mnetters board. However I wish *@MNHQ* had the common sense to create boards for other minority race communities too (Think Indian, SE Asian, Eastern European, Latin American ect). We have struggles that are unique to our race as well. And the inclusion of only a Black board and nothing for any other race just perpetuates the recent problem of racism being framed as a black/white narrative and white people congratulating themselves on being 'anti-racist' by reading a few black authors and going to one BLM march whilst they're racist to other minorities. There's all this talk of 'educate yourself' but so many white people only seem to want to be educated on black issues and when i try to bring up an issue of racism i've experienced they genuinley don't care. I was called a 'paki' at a BLM protest by someone so proud of themselves for being anti-racist and there's still all the 'go back to where you came from' and anti-muslim rhetoric that always resurfaces around 9/11.

The board for black MNetters is great and i fully support it. But @MNHQ can you please look into starting boards for other ethnic minorities you have large numbers of? We'd like a safe space too.

Yes, I know that anti-Asian bigotry, xenophobia and racism has been on the rise where I live, prompted (but not created) by Covid.

I respect black spaces - often read but never post on Lipstick Alley, for example.

I do think it's odd that a space here like FWR (we do all agree that sexism still exists, I assume?) must tolerate sexists and anti feminists and male moderation, if demographic moderation is in fact available on Mumsnet, however.

I hope black Mumsnetters find their space supportive. I make no secret of the fact that I find CRT, including the idea of racial affinity groups, regressive, but I certainly won't be invading black women's space to complain about it.
