Thanks to the fab PatricksRum for fighting against racism we've got our own board here

Look for black mumsnetters 👍🏿

OP posts:
Wheresthesanitygone · 16/09/2020 20:48

I have absolutely no problem with the new black forum if black people want it. I hope those who use it enjoy it.

What I do have massive problems with is the way PatricksRum and a few others spoke to people on her many threads. Telling people to F off, telling them they weren’t welcome, telling other BAME posters they wouldn’t be welcome and that white people weren’t to use HER board to educate themselves, telling posters to ignore posts by a BAME poster who stood up to her, basically treating everybody who didn’t agree with her like shit. Whether they were white, black, brown if they didn’t agree with her they got abuse. That is not acceptable to me from ANYBODY regardless of skin colour, on here you wouldn’t usually know their skin colour, and I do not see why being black was supposedly making that acceptable.

I notice the posts saying white and brown people ( not my word if anyone is offended) weren’t allowed on the new board have now gone which isn’t people are now able to call liars for referencing them, but they were there for many hours.

Anyone who tells me they can say all people only have one eye and I am not allowed to disagree because of the colour of their skin gets nothing but contempt from me. They would if they were white too. ( I haven’t checked if that gem has been deleted since I read it yesterday).

Bearbehind · 16/09/2020 20:48

Read the post at 14.35

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 20:49

read the post on the first page at 14.35 which said ‘it was made clear it should be for black people only. No whites and no other 'races'’ and then explain to me why I’m ‘stirring’

So someone says it and that means it was true that that was what was said?
A second hand comment is all you've got, with no source?
The amount of wilful misunderstanding going on by a lot of posters on here I reckon that wasn't what was said at all, and more like "don't post if you're white and just coming to goad/spout racist crap/make it about meeeee"

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 20:50

Haviana read the post on the first page at 14.35 which said ‘it was made clear it should be for black people only. No whites and no other 'races'’ and then explain to me why I’m ‘stirring’

Because it's hearsay. Where's the actual quote of the person who said that?[/quote]
How can people link to a thread that was deleted?

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 20:51

Havaina
Because it's hearsay. Where's the actual quote of the person who said that?

Ffs - that is the quote

Crossposted - exactly, hearsay!
Bearbehind - how on earth is that a quote.
It's hearsay from what someone else said.
It's he said, she said stuff.
Not a quote Confused

StormzyInaDCup · 16/09/2020 20:53

@Quaagars so a poster who read the now deleted post relayed the contents. As did another who pointed out the title excluding white people specifically.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 20:54

@Bearbehind

Ffs - that is the quote

It's not a quote, it's hearsay. If not, quote it.

Wheresthesanitygone · 16/09/2020 20:54

Which IS HOW not which isn’t

Relaying = hearsay

Bearbehind · 16/09/2020 20:55

Quaagars I’ve said repeatedly that if all are welcome on this new section, with all other sections then I have no issue whatsoever with it

I do have an issue with any form of sectarianism, as it is in no way helpful

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 20:56

I suggest posters who aren't sure what was said, or not, have a read through PatricksRums threads that are still up. You'll get the gist of what was said, even if the actual thread was removed.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 20:57

so a poster who read the now deleted post relayed the contents

And put their own interpretation on it.
It's repeatedly (repeatedly, repeatedly) been explained by the OP of the threads that white people are welcome, just maybe not so much if we were to go on and what about meeee or post racist type crap

StormzyInaDCup · 16/09/2020 20:57

And @Wheresthesanitygone.. Explains it very well. You're just one person saying it didn't happen and no posts to prove otherwise. What's described in the overview provided, is a disgrace. Excluding people and telling them certain people won't be allowed in there.

Tellmetruth4 · 16/09/2020 21:00

The easiest thing for people who think they’re excluded to do, is read the T&Cs on the sub-board. I have and it makes no mention of barring non black people at all so I don’t get why people keep saying non black people are barred and bringing up quotes from randoms from deleted posts.

The actual rules of the board are there to read if you care to look - unless you’re just here to argue.

Laiste · 16/09/2020 21:03

PatricksRum Wed 09-Sep-20 07:25:08 - '' ... It would be great if white people visited also, I imagine it would be eye-opening.''

PatricksRum instigated the Black section. She said this on the first page of her first thread.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/09/2020 21:03

Well done @PatricksRum and congratulations on achieving this 👏🏽

I haven't heard of a mass of English Nationalists trolling on Scotsnet
So hopefully there will be very few racist trolls invading the new board

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 21:04

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 21:04

Gosh, I thought we were all meant to be equal. Can you imagine the furore if there was a white mumsnetter? I have also seen black hair and beauty sites, and a magazine for black people only. I ask again, would those be tolerated if you swapped the word black for white.

Have you just been oblivious to the endless media discussion over the last few years about racism in print media?

If so, start here:

Was that to read or to post?
Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 16/09/2020 21:06

Am I missing something here? I thought mumsnet was all inclusive for everyone? I question the decision when reading through these posts as to why mumsnet have decided division based on skin colour is a good thing? I thought we were a community as a whole? I do not like the idea that I fit into some sections and not others ..do you know my skin colour and does it matter to you if I am white or not? I am out of here. I am not going to be called racist or otherwise on a forum who decides where I can post and to whom and I should have to decide who I can engage with ...I have a great respect for many posters and value their input and never once has it crossed my mind as to the colour of their skin or ethnicity....it was never an issue. We took wisdom from others as we saw fit and we learned and grew as a community....why change that? Why divide ? makes no sense to me ..I disagree based on the principles of mutual respect

NiceGerbil · 16/09/2020 21:08

Sally so you don't agree with having the LGBT+ boards?

BigChocFrenzy · 16/09/2020 21:08

The fury of white posters about a board for black Mumsnetters illustrates why many black Mumsnetters want a space where the default is not white

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 21:08

Just a few of patricks posts

Thanks to everyone, black and white who have helpfully contributed
See, thanks to everyone black AND white - how is that bog off white people? [hhm]

I didn't say who could and couldn't post. I addressed my post to black people and not white people
Clearly saying was asking for black people's experiences, not white hence why stating black

I'm sick of not being able to have one thread, just one where we can talk about something, one thing, to benefit us without white people coming on and hijacking it and diverting the attention to them.

Any white user coming to the board to inflict their racism would be banned. Same as any other section.
Is that what you mean by white people aren't allowed to post, they're banned?
As it doesn't mean what you think it does if so.
Just saying people coming to goad/inflict racism should be banned, and what's wrong with that?

Don't know why I'm bothering, as no doubt some just don't want to see and will carry on pretending no whites allowed which it isnt at all.

NiceGerbil · 16/09/2020 21:11

I can't understand the mindset of the posters who object to this, at all.

Why shouldn't people with something in common have a space to talk about stuff?

Remember this is MUMSNET and we have had many men over the years come on and say this is a sexist site.

They don't like the fact it's mainly women in here talking about the things that matter to them from their own perspective.

Lots of men aren't used to that and they don't like it. They feel excluded. Sounds familiar to anyone?

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 21:12

Great summary @Quaagars I note @EDSGFC keep saying look up the thread, whereas you actually quoted.
