@Quaagars

OnceUponAThimble Wed 16-Sep-20 19:22:17 Would it be available to white parents who have black children?

Nope

Why state that like actual fact when it says quite clearly that white people can post?

Just one of the posts
You don’t have to be black, but just be able to relate to the issues here
I've also seen a post saying of course white people are welcome, and yes people who are white with black children can post (will try and find)
There's outright lying going on in some of these posts, or at the very least stating things as facts that just aren't true.

See you say there's outright lying going on and then there are posts like this

one forum on mumsnet where you’ve been politely asked not to post unless you have experience of living as a black person

Azif · 16/09/2020 20:06

Good for you, sincerely. It’s a shame you had to fight for one in the first place but hoping it’s a step in the right direction.
Kinda hope no one actually did say no other ethnic group was allowed to participate

GoldenKelpie · 16/09/2020 20:07

@Tellmetruth4

Ok I have a solution. Why don’t we go in Site Stuff and ask MN to close ALL sub forums including AIBU? We could have one MN forum where we stick everything. Maybe we should even get rid of thread titles so everything can be in one long continuous thread.

That way nobody feels left out of anything. What do you think?

I've got a better idea.

Lets ensure that every forum or sub-forum is inclusive and not place restrictions on who can comment on it, because is devisive and exclusionary.

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 20:11

@EDSGFC I'm not black but I can see that many people took up #BLM because it was the fashionable thing to do.

I don't blame people for trying to encourage voices that actually want real, permanent change rather than just joining the taking part in a sort of 'cause du jour'.

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 20:11

Yes, and how exactly is that saying you're not allowed on the board, or not allowed to post if you're white?
It's just politely asking people not to post if the don't have any relevant experience.
It'd be like me barging in to the special needs boards and banging on with my important opinions on autism in children for example when I have absolutely no experience with that.
Just the same.

Bearbehind · 16/09/2020 20:11

It seems to me that there’s 2 scenarios here

Either

A black MN forum section is inclusive so, for example, a white woman in a relationship with a black man is welcome to post

Or

People justify the need to have black only and white only and any other colour only sections

PurpleHoodie · 16/09/2020 20:12

Azif

The actual section itself (not this dreggy thread) is lovely. Welcoming of anyones input if they have expertise, knowledge and don't post racist rubbish.

myrtleWilson · 16/09/2020 20:13

@wowwe - wow indeed 570 messages in and you're the first to ask this question

EDSGFC - the OP of the previous thread had to resort to a PM'd poll because of the horrendous replies on the open one she created. I'm sure if you contact @MNHQ with your queries they'll be happy to answer

Quaagars · 16/09/2020 20:15

EDSGFC - the OP of the previous thread had to resort to a PM'd poll because of the horrendous replies on the open one she created

And did you see the absolutely fucking DISGUSTING responses she got?
She had to close the original poll and start again due to racists in the comments section and with the usernames Sad

Happylittlethoughts · 16/09/2020 20:15

Congratulations! I followed about 4 boards of horrendous mud wading racism. A hard fought victory in the face of obtuse, defensive, racism masquerading as "weareallthesame" equality.
We are not all equal in reality , and those who experience this discrimination need and deserve a safe space to celebrate and support each other.
Good luck

notaflyingmonkey · 16/09/2020 20:17

Well done, also... FFS. Why on earth would it have to be hard fought for to carve out some space?

Having said that in a country where 21,000 people went to the trouble of complaining about a dance, clearly it's needed.

JayeAshe · 16/09/2020 20:17

@PatricksRum I am in awe of your fortitude and congratulate you on the success of your request.

I think if you are actually talking over people who belong to the group, then actually you are just taking part in a case du jour.

I would love to know how many people on the threads supporting the idea were black. There certainly are a good number of white posters shouting down anyone who disagreed with a board for black mumsnetters. Why are the voices of black mumsnetters who disagreed less important than the voices of white mumsnetters who agreed?

Havaiana · 16/09/2020 20:23

@EDSGFC why are you assuming I am white? I'm not.

OhReallyThen · 16/09/2020 20:23

@Dastardlythefriendlymutt

OhReallyThen

If you post your request in Site Stuff a d start a new thread, I'm sure many others will lend their voice to help your cause. I know I will.

The umbrella BAME term is othering and we all have different challenges. I do know how important and needed it is to find a safe space with people like you who understand what you are doing through.

I'm grateful to Patricksrum and all the other posters who supported us in our quest for a Black board. Thank you

Thank you.

I'm going to post in the next few days (have a very big deadline coming up right now).

I'm still a little disappointed @MNHQ hasn't responded to the many posts tagging them asking for this already and that they didn't have the common sense to start the process of this already, but Atleast now I know how to go about it so I will hopefully get a response.

Patricksrum has done a great job getting the black mnetters board set up and I fully support it. I hope her hard work will now pave the way and make it easier for other ethnic minorities to get their own boards aswell.

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 20:25

I saw the screen shots that she posted and yes, they were disgusting. It wasn't clear if those came from mumsnetters (I hope not) or outside trolls but they were disgusting.

However, what does that have to do with the post that said MN had set the rules and named the board? That's why I posted about the poll - because that was a poll, set up and controlled by the person who suggested the board, not by MN. Why not be honest about it?

Sanitisethat · 16/09/2020 20:27

You could play a racist drinking game with this thread

Not without an ambulance on standby Grin

PurpleHoodie · 16/09/2020 20:27

The BMN board is here.

It is here to stay.

Tunnocks34 · 16/09/2020 20:28

Congratulations! I must admit I haven’t seen much of the campaigning as I’ve not been on much, but I can completely see the want for it from a black perspective.

Personally, I would join BAME group if one was available, but I also am not about to really push for one as I am mostly happy on the main forums.

@OhReallyThen I agree with you about other racism. I have found that people don’t particularly care that I am called a paki/terrorist. Or asked if I have bleached my skin, if I’m Muslim, if my mum and dad disowned me for marrying a white man, why don’t I wear a hijab if I’m Pakistani. I personally think people almost ignore racism towards Pakistani/Indian etc heritage If I’m honest - or at least that’s how my experiences recently have made me feel (unrelated to BLM which I totally and utterly support)

EDSGFC · 16/09/2020 20:28
@EDSGFC why are you assuming I am white? I'm not.
Well, I wasn't referring to you as one of the white posters over riding the black posters but I also thought you'd said that you weren't black? So I wasn't assuming you were white but also thought you said you weren't black. Apologies if I got you mixed up with someone else.

stayathomer · 16/09/2020 20:28

What a horrible thread-from so many sides, the why cant we have a white only people, the all the white people are secretly racist people and generally people looking for a fight. Best of luck with the new section everyone BrewCake

Since there are no restrictions on white people posting on that board if they want to, what actually is your problem?

NiceGerbil · 16/09/2020 20:29

This thread shows really well why this board was requested!

Bloody hell.

I wish the new board massive success Smile

AthelstaneTheUnready · 16/09/2020 20:31

This is so weird.

How has it twisted round from being a black mumsnetter, raising support for a black section, to actually you're being racist by allowing it because too many white people agreed, and so they bullied black people into having to have this corner Confused

Congratulations, @patricksrum Flowers Hope the board thrives.
